Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1675 - 1676: A Mother’s Heart Softens

Qi Taiguo washed his hands and feet and returned to the room. Cheng Su was still sitting by the bed reading a book, so he went over and pulled her book away.

”It’s so late, and the light isn’t bright enough. Be careful not to ruin your eyes by reading. Can’t you read during the day?” Qi Taiguo said.

Cheng Su moved her son inwards and leaned in herself, saying, ”When do I have time during the day? This is the only time I can read for a while, and aren’t I also waiting for you?”

Qi Taiguo dried his hands, got into bed, and pulled her in for a kiss: ”Waiting for me, can’t sleep?”

Cheng Su rolled her eyes at him, saying, ”Stop flattering yourself, I sleep like a baby every day.”

”Really? I don’t believe it. Your eyes have dark circles!” Qi Taiguo pointed at her eyelids.

Cheng Su instantly became tense and leaned over to grab a mirror: ”Really? Let me see.”

Qi Taiguo stopped her and laughed heartily: ”Indeed, what women worry about most is their face!”

Hearing this, she knew she was being teased again. Cheng Su gritted her teeth and took his hand to bite it.

Qi Taiguo wasn’t angry, letting her bite, and they laughed and played for a while before leaning against the headboard to talk.

”What Dad was just saying, how do you feel about it?” Cheng Su asked him, ”Do you feel like you should stand up for your sister?”

Qi Taiguo’s face darkened: ”The Zhang family is really going too far.”

Judging by his tone, he was a bit upset.

Cheng Su sighed.

”You don’t want me to go?” Qi Taiguo looked at her.

Cheng Su said, ”I’m also upset over the Zhang family’s lack of integrity, but thinking about that child, what can we do to them? Like Dad said, beat them up and scold them? If we beat them too badly, who will run around and gather money for the child’s treatment? Maybe it’s because I’m a mom now, my heart has softened, and it’s all for the child’s sake.”

She had seen that child, who was sick, pale, extremely thin, and pitiful to look at.

Qi Taiguo held her hand and squeezed it.

”Leukemia requires a lot of money for treatment. I don’t think the Zhang family can afford that sum now,” Cheng Su said.

It took a while before Qi Taiguo spoke: ”It’s all self-inflicted.”

”Pitiful and yet more hateful. If they can’t raise the money, that child...” Cheng Su didn’t finish her sentence, just glanced at their son.

Qi Taiguo knew what she meant, saying, ”Even if we let them off this time, who knows what they might do next.”

”What else can they do?” Cheng Su said, ”Sister got remarried, both kids are with her, and they’re living in Qing City. What can the Zhang family do? Even if they try to grab the kids, they can’t.”

”When people go crazy, they’ll do anything.” Qi Taiguo said with deep meaning, ”Even if we don’t do something to them this time, at least we have to give them a warning.”

Cheng Su didn’t reply.

A warning is probably just nothing to them. Especially in this kind of situation, they must be so troubled that they might not even listen, right?

”Being a mom really softens your heart!” Cheng Su mocked herself again, saying, ”Even if you want to vent your anger, just take it easy for the child’s sake. The child is innocent and has such a disease, it’s uncertain if it can be cured.”

”Don’t worry, I know what to do,” Qi Taiguo said.

Cheng Su didn’t continue the topic and instead asked when he was going back to Qing City and whether the holiday preparation was going smoothly this time.

Qi Taiguo answered all her questions, and they talked until midnight. Realizing they would be busy the next day, they finally turned off the lights and went to sleep.

And just as Cheng Su had said, the Zhang family was also deeply troubled, unable to sleep all night because the money needed for the child’s treatment was too overwhelming, and they couldn’t come up with it.
