I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 883: Chapter 882: A Special Child

Mrs. Zhou took away the plates and bowls, and before leaving, she glanced around the ground and corners, making sure Beisitian hadn’t dumped the food but ate it, then left.

Beisitian glanced at the leftover shredded potatoes on the table, a smile forming at the corner of her mouth.

She had conducted extensive research and understanding about bad water over the years; compared to her previous life, this world was never short of documents and relevant materials, and information transmission seemed incredibly convenient.

However, despite this, when it came to some bad water she had never encountered before, Beisitian still needed time to research it.

Considering that the medicinal effects of some bad water would diminish over time, Beisitian closed the doors and windows, then started her research.

Due to her understanding of bad water, Beisitian quickly discovered its effects, noting it had hallucinogenic properties.

This left Beisitian puzzled and perplexed; the other party surely intended to control her, but why use bad water with such a function?

After researching the general effects, Beisitian came up with a solution, but even if she had the antidote, she didn’t want to eat food contaminated by bad water.

This bad water’s effects would last only briefly, so those people would likely continue providing her meals; if the rice was uncontaminated, that would be fine, but who could guarantee this wasn’t a test?

Thus, she didn’t dare finish all the rice, leaving some of the dishes, ensuring the other party wouldn’t notice she had detected the problem.

But this wasn’t a long-term solution; she couldn’t continue not eating, so she needed to find the source behind this Blood Circle quickly.

Staying here, Beisitian would seem suspicious if she didn’t leave, so when Mrs. Zhou came again, she spoke.

”Aunt Zhou, is there any fun place nearby?” Beisitian asked with a smile.

For travelers like them, fun places meant challenging and steep terrains.

But upon hearing Beisitian’s question, Mrs. Zhou’s expression subtly changed; she looked at Beisitian with uncertainty, then pretended like nothing had happened and said, ”This is just deep forest, no fun places, our village is the best!”

Beisitian’s heart stirred, responding, ”Indeed, this little village is wonderful.”

After she spoke, she noticed Mrs. Zhou took a slight breath, saying ’I’ll bring you some meal tonight’ before leaving.

Beisitian watched Mrs. Zhou’s departing figure, then stepped out of the house.

During the day, the village appeared relatively normal; at least, quite a few people could be seen on the village roads, especially children, followed by Shi Family members.

Apart from the monitoring women, most adults here were Shi Family members.

This was a strange phenomenon; clearly, the surveillance was conducted by a group of women, yet they managed to control an entire family, including numerous men.

This seemed odd to outsiders, but if these women possessed some bad water, and the Shi Family members were affected, it could explain how such a large Mystic Doctor family was controlled.

Beisitian stood by the fence, seeing many adults traversing back and forth, aside from those women, those dressed more formally were Shi Family members.

On the village road, some children bounced around; the brilliant smiles on their faces weren’t feigned, but truly genuine.

To find genuine smiles in such a place, Beisitian knew better; it confirmed her suspicions.

Seeing this, Beisitian returned inside, soon coming out again, holding a lollipop she was eating.

The surrounding children stopped playing, staring at her.

Beisitian shook the lollipop in her hand, asking, ”Do you want some?”

Several children exchanged glances, then nodded, appearing eager!

With a smile, Beisitian took out five or six candies from her pocket, spreading them in her palm.

A few kids tentatively approached Beisitian, seeing she bore no malice, reached out to take the candies from her palm, then ran aside with glee, peeling wrappers and eating.

The radiant smiles and unguarded eyes of these children were genuine; seemingly, she guessed correctly.

At this point, Beisitian noticed a small figure standing under the house opposite; as she looked up, she saw a fourteen or fifteen-year-old boy.

This boy bore a calm expression, lacking any signs of joy, coldly watching Beisitian, scrutinizing her.

Beisitian glanced over, locking eyes with the boy for two seconds; he turned and entered the house, his last glance at the surrounding children was laden with disdain.

This was indeed a peculiar child, among a group of carefree kids, he stood out.

Beisitian stepped toward the village road; staying inside was stranger.

As she looked, those women ignored the previous children, giving a slight nod at her gaze.

A rough estimate suggested about twenty women in the village, from their spirit, none seemed formidable, but they were likely insiders.

Shi Family members watched Beisitian curiously glancing around, their faces either resigned or indifferent; since the other party was actively providing meals, it seemed this woman’s spirit should be excellent, they certainly wouldn’t let her go.

What a pity...

Yet, this woman seemed somewhat familiar?

More than one Shi Family member had this feeling; they thought they’d seen her before, yet not quite.

The woman was indeed beautiful, if they had seen her, her spirit was good, they would remember.

Beisitian’s gaze swept over these Shi Family members, without pausing; she’d met quite a few of them, some at conventions, others at Mystic Doctor gatherings, naturally they knew her.

However, Beisitian’s appearance had been altered somewhat by Qiao Hongjie; the Shi Family might, at most, find her familiar, without recognizing her.

Beisitian gradually moved toward the village edge; not carrying any luggage, no one bothered her, except the women’s eyes constantly watching her.

Beisitian circled the village perimeter; surrounded by dense woods, canopy thick, mountains encircling; the village sat relatively flat, with a river flowing nearby.

This village existed because of this river.

As she pondered, Beisitian’s peripheral vision caught a figure; she hesitated, turned her head, seeing only trees.

But despite hiding well, Beisitian still spotted the person.

”Come out,” Beisitian said.

Leaves rustled in the breeze; just when Beisitian thought the person wouldn’t emerge, a small figure stood from behind the shrubs.

Indeed, the unique child from before.

The child coolly looked at Beisitian, ”If you want to live, leave here at once.”
