I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 853: Chapter 852: The Accident

Beisitian couldn’t let Qi Xiu Hui harbor a resistant attitude, as it severely affected progress and results.

Beisitian thought she should have a good talk with her, so she asked Wei Zhongyuan and Tian Zhi to leave.

Wei Zhongyuan and Tian Zhi didn’t know what Beisitian discussed with her. An hour and a half later, Qi Xiu Hui came out with red eyes.

”Xiao Bei, I’m going back to pack my things, then I’ll leave with you all,” Qi Xiu Hui said and left.

From the look of it, she had completely accepted it and was actively cooperating.

Qi Xiu Hui didn’t go home but went straight to her father in the same city. Did her father know about grandpa’s matters?

Qi Xiu Hui didn’t know. Her father now lived alone and didn’t stay with her brother, but since everyone was in the same city, it was easier to look after each other.

Her father lived in a village in the suburbs. It wasn’t Qi Xiu Hui’s original hometown; they had moved there later.

When she arrived, her father Qi Jun was in the yard reading a newspaper. Upon hearing the commotion, he looked up to see Qi Xiu Hui, nodded, and returned his gaze to the newspaper.

”Dad, how’s your leg?” Qi Xiu Hui took a small stool from the yard and sat beside Qi Jun.

”Much better.”

”Dad, by the way, don’t we have any other relatives?” Qi Xiu Hui didn’t know how to start, so she asked tentatively.

Qi Jun put down the newspaper, removed his reading glasses, and the wrinkles on his face were deep enough to crush a mosquito. His hair was mostly white with little black left.

”Why are you suddenly asking this?” Qi Jun asked in confusion.

Qi Xiu Hui wasn’t sure if it was because she knew some secrets, but she keenly sensed something odd in her father’s expression.

”Just asking.”

”No more.”

”Really no more?”

Qi Jun looked at his daughter. He knew her too well; if she wasn’t aware of something, she wouldn’t be asking with such persistence.

Facing Qi Jun’s steady gaze, Qi Xiu Hui quickly couldn’t hold back and said, ”Dad, you never talked about grandpa and grandma.”

Qi Jun’s expression changed slightly upon hearing this, then furrowed his brows and became increasingly silent.

Seeing this, Qi Xiu Hui became anxious and directly asked, ”Dad, is my grandpa still alive?”

This time, Qi Jun’s face changed dramatically. He stood up abruptly from his chair, staring hard at Qi Xiu Hui, ”What are you talking about!”

Qi Xiu Hui had never seen her father like this before, she was startled and looked up at him, unsure of what to do.

”What exactly do you know?” Qi Jun’s face was somber.

Qi Xiu Hui looked up at her father. Despite his terrifying expression, there was a hint of panic in his eyes that he couldn’t hide.

”I know grandpa is still alive.” Qi Xiu Hui didn’t know why, but she felt calm instead.

Qi Jun’s eyelids twitched as they faced each other like two roosters, neither willing to back down. This was something Qi Xiu Hui did when she was a child, competing with her father.

Eventually, Qi Jun closed his eyes, with a hint of desolation on his face, sat down, and asked in a low voice, ”What else do you know? Who told you?”

Qi Xiu Hui shook her head, ”Just this much, it was someone from the Military Department who told me, but I can’t say why.”

Qi Jun sighed, showing no surprise, as if he had anticipated it.

”I am supposed to leave Anding City the day after tomorrow to find grandpa,” Qi Xiu Hui said.

Qi Jun’s expression was momentarily dazed, then increasingly despondent, ”Go, your grandpa must miss you a lot.”

Qi Xiu Hui tilted her head, frowning as she asked, ”Dad, what on earth happened?”

Qi Jun, at this point, no longer had any secrets to keep. He had known this day would come; he had been waiting for so long. He thought it would happen after his death, not expecting it to occur now.

The old man must be almost ninety by now, right?

Qi Jun closed his eyes and began to speak slowly.

Qi Jun didn’t have the talent for medicine, whether traditional or Western, so he was just an honest worker. Although it was hard and tiring, it was a stable job.

His father had always thought he was worthless. He was quite satisfied with this kind of life, but ignorance is bliss as they say. Because he didn’t understand his father’s work, he wasn’t afraid of it, and this led to a tragedy.

He still remembered that it was a sunny day with no clouds, the sky was an endless blue. That morning, he was aimlessly accompanying his mother to deliver food to his father.

Because his father got so absorbed in his research that he often forgot to eat, his mother would deliver meals on time every day, no matter how focused he was, she’d pull him out for a meal. Over time, it became a habit.

That day he happened to be off work, so he went along, not expecting...

While his father was eating, Qi Jun wandered into his father’s cultivation base, curiously bending down to look at the freezing culture tanks. Some had tiny black dots, others were completely invisible.

However, a glass bottle caught his attention. Initially, there was nothing special about it, but in the moment he looked at it, it suddenly bloomed with colorful spots inside.

Curiously, he picked up the glass bottle. The first feeling when he held it was its coolness, and that was his only impression.

Because in the next moment, the bottle suddenly shattered, and glass shards cut his fingers. Instinctively, he dropped the bottle, but the colorful stuff seemed to have a magnetic pull, sticking to his face against gravity.

He didn’t react in time, mainly because he didn’t think anything would happen, but suddenly he felt a tremendous force push him away from behind, causing a big man like him to fall to the ground.

Turning around, he saw his mother!

The colorful stuff was now attached to his mother’s forehead, and she had an expression of pain but couldn’t say anything, which completely shocked him.

His mother died that day, and he didn’t see her at the end. His father said nothing, and everyone else remained silent in mourning.

The Military Department sealed off that cultivation base after the incident, and his father left in sorrow.

Everything happened in a flash, making it hard for Qi Jun to process. Sometimes he even felt it wasn’t real until he later understood the horror of that pathogen.

He inadvertently heard someone say that his mother was consumed by the pathogen...

Since then, his father declined rapidly. In just a year, he seemed to age a decade, with white hair at his temples and a lifeless look, not even speaking to him.

Qi Jun felt that his father hated him even more.

Later, his father left a letter and departed, disappearing without a trace, never to return. Occasionally, Qi Jun would get word through some channels that his father was still alive, but he didn’t know where.

So now, hearing Qi Xiu Hui say she was going to find him, he couldn’t help but feel a sourness in his nose. His father still didn’t want to see him!
