I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 148: Chapter 147: Lying on His Back

Because walking with Beisitian, the initial hostility and vigilance the wolfdogs felt towards Luo Xudong gradually diminished, though they still spread out in an organized manner, surrounding the two people.

”Miss Bei always amazes people; these big wolfdogs actually protect a human like this,” Zhou Jiren remarked.

”It was a chance encounter with these big fellows; they are all very skilled,” Beisitian said, her expression softening as she spoke of the wolfdogs.

These big fellows do not have the complex emotions of humans. Precisely because of this, when faced with the wolf pack just now, they didn’t scatter and run away.

Moreover, they repeatedly protected Beisitian when she ventured into the mountains to gather herbs, forming a deep friendship between human and dog.

Zhou Jiren noticed that Beisitian used the word ’encounter,’ clearly treating these big wolfdogs as friends!

He had never personally experienced such a feeling, but he had seen his comrades have such emotions; the relationship between them and the military dogs must be like this.

The more Zhou Jiren learned about Beisitian, the more interesting he found her, and the more he wanted to understand her better. This feeling was both wonderful and heart-racing.

The sun was setting, and as dusk approached, Beisitian began looking for a campsite.

However, there were many boulders here, and the flat areas were in the valley, which was indeed dangerous at night. Even with the protection of the big wolfdogs, she was unwilling to take the risk.

She didn’t want to take risks herself, nor did she want the wolfdogs to do so.

”It would be best to find a cave,” Zhou Jiren said, standing on a large boulder on the hillside.

”Caves can only be found in the valley, and it always feels dangerous in the valley as it gets dark,” Beisitian said.

In that valley, there was a stream formed by a mountain spring, where many animals came to drink, including predators, making it inherently more dangerous.

”Who says you have to find a cave at the foot of the mountain? There are caves halfway up the mountain too,” Zhou Jiren said, looking down.

Whenever Beisitian looked at him, she felt that his outfit seemed unsuitable for him, or perhaps his entire physique seemed inappropriate for his face.

This was just a thought in her heart; who would be foolish enough to say it and invite disdain?

”There are indeed caves halfway up the mountain; the problem is getting down there,” Beisitian said.

Though she had some experience with outdoor survival, getting down to a cave halfway up the mountain was something she couldn’t manage.

”I can get down,” Zhou Jiren turned back and smiled, ”I recall you have a rope, right? Take it out and give it to me.”

Seeing his confident demeanor, Beisitian took out the rope and tossed it over.

Zhou Jiren caught the rope, looped one end twice under a boulder weighing over a hundred pounds, and then let it hang down the mountainside.

Zhou Jiren checked the length of the rope; it reached just beyond the cave below, but the front of the cave wasn’t easy to land on.

When he walked here earlier, he noticed this cave and thought to explore it. If there were no wild animals inside, staying here would be the best choice.

”I’ll go down and take a look first. Don’t stray from the wolfdogs,” Zhou Jiren said, taking a glance at the wolfdogs either lying or crouching around them, then took out the carabiner from his backpack, attached it to his waist, used his feet for leverage, and lightly jumped, sliding down.

Beisitian hurried to the edge of the hillside to look down, seeing Zhou Jiren already reaching his destination, carefully testing the safe landing spot.

After finding it, he removed the carabiner, lightly jumped, and entered the cave.

Beisitian lay on a large rock and peered down, her heart slightly anxious, hoping that the cave didn’t harbor any dangerous animals.

After five or six minutes, Zhou Jiren emerged from the cave, grabbed the swinging rope, fastened the carabiner, grasped the rope with both hands, used his feet for leverage, and quickly climbed up.

Beisitian had no time to marvel at his agility and asked, ”How is it?”

”It’s suitable for staying. It’s dry inside, and no animals have been inside for a long time,” Zhou Jiren said.

The sky had darkened by now; looking for another campsite was no longer feasible. In the mountains, once night fell, the level of danger would increase exponentially!

Beisitian couldn’t find roots like those from yesterday to set up a bonfire. Facing danger without a fire would be a problem.

”There’s no time to lose; let’s go down,” Beisitian said, reaching for the rope. She tested it a few times, realizing that no matter the posture, she couldn’t manage it as smoothly and elegantly as Zhou Jiren just now.

Whether or not the actions were smooth and stylish, Beisitian couldn’t even find the right move. After several tries, she still couldn’t go down, and at one point, almost missed a step. Fortunately, Zhou Jiren grabbed her wrist and pulled her back.

Heart pounding, Beisitian wondered why something that seemed so simple for Zhou Jiren was so hard for her!

”It’s likely hard to slide down without practice,” Zhou Jiren said, slightly troubled, realizing it was too late to instruct now.

Beisitian slightly frowned, carefully recalling Zhou Jiren’s actions earlier, then shook her head; she couldn’t grasp it and knew more attempts would be futile.

The sky had darkened already. Only a few rays of twilight remained in the sky, and once the sun fully set, danger would follow, and descending would become even harder.

Zhou Jiren thought for a moment and said to Beisitian, ”The only way now is for me to carry you down.”

Upon hearing this, Beisitian shook her head vigorously; how could that be possible? Doing so would mean physical contact, and even though she didn’t plan to marry, she couldn’t have physical contact with a man.

Even open-minded, Beisitian was influenced by the environment from her past life, placing great importance on this!

Physical contact meant either marriage or death.

”The urgent task now is to quickly get into the cave, or once it’s completely dark, I won’t be able to see what’s below, making it difficult to find a safe landing spot. Miss Bei, I can assure you, after today, I will act as though nothing happened. In this deep forest, only you and I know; there won’t be a third person to know!”

Zhou Jiren knew what Beisitian was worried about, feeling both relieved and a bit at a loss.

Beisitian’s lips tightened; this was truly difficult to decide, but it seemed foolish to let herself be drawn into danger over such matters.

Seeing how earnest and sincere Zhou Jiren was, Beisitian contemplated for a bit before nodding in agreement.

After all, this world was different from her past life; women here didn’t have as many rules to follow!

Agreeing, Beisitian didn’t hesitate. She gritted her teeth and climbed onto Zhou Jiren’s back, unexpectedly finding his back broad and giving a reassuring sense of security.
