I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 133: Chapter 133: Who Was That Money Entrusted To?

In a profession that values age, Beisitian is at a disadvantage now. Watching Wu Yuekai suffer, she feels a faint sorrow in her heart.

Beisitian sighed. She was never one to be overly sympathetic, but she harbors such complex feelings towards Wu Yuekai, probably not just because he looks exactly like her master, but also because he, like her master, gently guides her.

Without her master, she might have spent her past life in a family temple, lonely forever, likely unable to discover her life’s value or have the current Beisitian.

In recent days, Beisitian visited more often, noticing that ever since the chief physician examined him, Wu Yuekai indeed showed some improvement, though the effect was somewhat slow.

The improvement made Beisitian happy. Seeing Li Xuejun absent, she secretly took out a homemade plaster mixed with talisman powder and handed it to Wu Yuekai.

”Old man, I know you don’t trust my medical skills. I just don’t want to see you suffer. This plaster can be applied for three to five hours each day, with one plaster per day. After using three plasters, your old cold legs will improve somewhat,” Beisitian said.

Wu Yuekai held the three slightly rough plasters, feeling somewhat touched by Beisitian’s sincere words.

”Alright, I’ll listen to the girl and use this medicine today without letting Xiao Li know,” Wu Yuekai said with a smile.

Seeing him speaking truthfully, Beisitian smiled and nodded. Shortly after, Li Xuejun knocked on the door, saying someone outside was visiting, the North China director of Jishi Pharmacy.

Beisitian was slightly surprised. It was Zhou Jiren, didn’t he leave Qingzhou Town? When did he return?

In recent days, Beisitian hadn’t gone to the town, so she really didn’t know when Zhou Jiren returned.

”Let him in,” Wu Yuekai said with a bland expression.

Soon, Zhou Jiren entered the study, equally surprised to see Beisitian there.

”Jiren returned from Beijing to see Mr. Wu,” Zhou Jiren said respectfully.

Wu Yuekai nodded, ”Sit down.”

After Zhou Jiren sat down, he smiled at Beisitian, ”Miss Bei is here as well.”

Zhou Jiren didn’t need to guess to know what Wu Yuekai meant, but he also knew Wu Yuekai was a person with principles and wouldn’t break rules for personal connections.

Wu Yuekai coldly looked at Zhou Jiren’s eyes gleaming with light, snorting inwardly, this brat starts flirting right here!

Then recalling his previous tests with Beisitian, he thought, better to convey more feelings, lest she runs away after the task is done.

He had no doubt about this at all. The more he understood Beisitian, the more he realized the small Kao Village couldn’t hold her!

And once she leaves, it would be hard to find her again.

Wu Yuekai and Beisitian are close mainly because he believes this child has potential and he also hopes to assist Luo Xudong!

Wu Yuekai sighed inwardly, raised his teacup, and drank, pretending not to notice.

Beisitian glanced at Wu Yuekai, then at Zhou Jiren, slightly startled that he came to see Wu Yuekai empty-handed.

She’s seen Zhou Jiren several times at Feng Yunzhang’s place, and Zhou Jiren, in his words and actions, wanted to connect with Mr. Wu. Given Zhou Jiren’s intelligence and social experience, he surely understands basic social etiquette.

So, returning from Beijing, he should have bought some items or gifts out of courtesy.

If they were very familiar to the point of not needing such formalities, it was not so. From the last time Zhou Jiren came with her until now, she wouldn’t say she visits every day, but quite often, and Zhou Jiren hadn’t returned to Qingzhou Town, making it impossible to cultivate a good relationship with the old man.

So why does he want to establish a good relationship yet shows nothing?

This made her recall the last time they came together. Normally, then Zhou Jiren should be nervous and excited; indeed, he showed excitement, but deep in his eyes, there wasn’t much delight, something apparent in his words and little subtleties.

Beisitian was puzzled by this.

The other two hadn’t thought Beisitian’s thoughts were so detailed and her observations so keen, able to detect clues from mere interactions.

Zhou Jiren looked at Beisitian, noticing she gained quite a bit of flesh compared to last time, becoming much fairer, with graceful eyebrows and radiance in her eyes, carrying a certain spirit that generally women don’t have, making people want to look twice.

Seeing Zhou Jiren staring directly at her, Beisitian couldn’t help but feel a bit shy, calling out, ”Mr. Zhou.”

Zhou Jiren quickly looked away and coughed lightly, ”Miss Bei is here to exchange calligraphy insights with Mr. Wu?”

Only Beisitian, at her age, could be qualified to say ’exchange’; most others, more often than not, would say they seek advice.

”Mr. Zhou, you flatter me. I’m still far from that.” Beisitian wasn’t being humble; she knew her own worth, so she never underestimated herself nor was she arrogant.

Beisitian didn’t know whether they had matters to discuss, and since Zhou Jiren came, she wasn’t in a position to stay long, so she got up and bid farewell to Wu Yuekai.

Zhou Jiren’s gaze followed Beisitian’s back until he couldn’t see her anymore.

”Brat, still looking? She’s gone long!” Wu Yuekai said crossly.

Zhou Jiren, no, at this moment Luo Xudong, withdrew his gaze and said lightly, ”I’m watching my own wife, not breaking any rules.”

Wu Yuekai glared, ”You think you’re right! Now quickly tell me the news, this old man is waiting to go back.”

He came this time partly to alter Luo Xudong’s appearance, and partly to deliver messages.

His health isn’t good, and he annually visits nearby villages to recuperate; it’s a routine, so nobody would suspect when he comes to deliver messages.

Hearing it was about the task, Luo Xudong’s expression became composed, ”I’ve gathered some evidence, and soon they’ll make a big move; I think it’s a good opportunity to take action.”

Wu Yuekai pondered for a moment and nodded, signaling him to elaborate.

Luo Xudong described his recent discoveries and the upcoming plan, sharing his perspective.

This wasn’t Wu Yuekai’s task, so he couldn’t make decisions, only responsible for verbally transmitting the message.

After conveying the message, Luo Xudong prepared to leave, when Wu Yuekai called him back, hesitated a bit, then asked, ”Xudong, before you faked your death, who did you entrust that sum of money to?”

Upon hearing Wu Yuekai’s question, Luo Xudong didn’t need to guess that his family likely was struggling financially. He already speculated this from Beisitian’s attire, and when Wu Yuekai spoke about their situation last time, he felt a pang of bitterness, knowing he probably chose the wrong person.
