I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 132: Chapter 132: Colorless and Tasteless Medicine

Luo Er’s family’s days have truly been revived. The brothers of the Ba Wang Zhang Family now greet Mrs. Qin with respect whenever they see her outside, and they have become model villagers when they meet Beisitian.

But only they know their own bitterness, as they only hope for this winter to pass quickly. As Beisitian had said, once this winter is over, they won’t have to supply food to the wolves anymore.

At Luo’s house, Qin Hongmei and Old Mrs. Luo still tremble on the kang bed, recalling their past actions toward Mrs. Qin and Beisitian. They often wake up in terror from dreams of drool dripping onto their necks from between steel teeth.

It truly echoes the saying: with a clear conscience, fear not the ghost knocking at your door!

Now, none of the village women dare to openly discuss Beisitian’s supposed hard luck; who would dare utter a word? What if those big wolves come again!

Now, the Ba Wang Zhang Family can no longer exert their domineering ways in Kao Village. Everyone saw the day they knelt before Mrs. Qin, kowtowing loudly. Moreover, their ugly posture was witnessed by all, and nobody dared provoke them anymore.

On the other hand, Luo Er’s family has transformed from a household full of cripples into the ’leading family’ of Kao Village, but this leading family neither bullies nor exploits others and never takes advantage of anyone.

The villagers have a mix of fear and hatred for the Ba Wang Zhang Family, but toward Luo Er’s family, their fear is accompanied by admiration.

Beisitian doesn’t care about how outsiders view Luo Er’s family; she now visits Wu Yuekai every few days.

Wu Yuekai’s insight is as profound as her master’s. He has seen much and knows much, and he shares everything he knows with Beisitian, offering guidance like that of an elder at home.

This deepens Beisitian’s respect for Wu Yuekai and makes her even more fond of him.

However, seeing Wu Yuekai constantly burdened by illness each day makes her sad. Her master had lived to the end of his years, departing this world with all bodily functions in decline but without significant illness or pain.

Wu Yuekai, with the same face as her master, is, however, plagued by illness.

Although she does not know exactly who Wu Yuekai is, she understands that his military identity is not simple. This is also why she has not suggested preparing medicinal diets for him.

Anyone important in the military is very cautious about what they eat.

One day, when Beisitian arrived at the courtyard house, there seemed to be some commotion inside. When she pulled someone aside for details, she learned that Wu Yuekai had fallen.

Her expression turned serious. When the elderly fall, it is quite different from when the young fall. At Wu Yuekai’s age, there’s likely bone density issues, and a serious fall could result in a fracture.

Beisitian quickly went inside.

Because of her frequent visits, no one stopped her at that moment.

Upon reaching the entrance to Wu Yuekai’s room, she was finally stopped outside.

”I’m a doctor, let me take a look,” Beisitian said, feeling a bit anxious.

Two soldiers were standing at the door, ignoring Beisitian’s words.

Orderly Li Xuejun knew the old chief was fond of Beisitian, and he kindly advised, ”Comrade Xiao Bei, please wait patiently for a while, the chief’s attending doctor is in there diagnosing him now.”

The attending doctor should be a private physician, Beisitian thought and felt relieved. Since he’s the attending doctor, he should be the most familiar with Wu Yuekai’s health condition.

Upon hearing Li Xuejun’s words, Beisitian went to the study to wait.

The wait lasted more than two hours, and from the study, there was a view of the outside, so when Wu Yuekai’s door opened, Beisitian walked out of the study.

Emerging from Wu Yuekai’s room was a man in his fifties, clean-shaven with a square face and a solemn expression. He wore a Zhongshan suit, and his hands were empty, which she found odd.

Isn’t he the attending doctor? Why doesn’t he have a stethoscope or a medical kit?

Beisitian found it strange that this man had nothing on him to treat an illness.

Because she stood in a conspicuous spot, the man’s indifferent gaze swept over her briefly, like a dragonfly skimming the water, before he left without pause.

Beisitian hurried toward Wu Yuekai’s room, and this time, the soldiers at the door did not stop her.

Entering the room, Beisitian saw Wu Yuekai reclining in bed, covered with a thick quilt.

”Have you been waiting long? My attending doctor has a peculiar temperament; he doesn’t allow others to be present when treating me.” Wu Yuekai felt a bit apologetic.

Beisitian shook her head, not surprised by this because she herself was the same way.

”How are you? Is it serious?” Beisitian asked, noticing that Wu Yuekai’s complexion didn’t look too good.

”I’m getting old, lost my balance, and took a fall. Luckily, I didn’t break any bones; otherwise, I would have lost half my life,” Wu Yuekai lamented with a shake of his head.

Beisitian remained silent for a long while before speaking, ”Sir, I’m also a doctor. How about I help you with some health management?”

It was the first time she offered to inquire about treating someone, as previously people had always sought her help. But facing the same face and some temperamental habits as her master, she found it hard to turn a blind eye.

Wu Yuekai was, of course, aware of this. He had even inquired about some matters related to her father previously, so he wasn’t surprised by this.

”Sure, with Sitiang’s help, I’ll surely recover in no time.” Wu Yuekai laughed heartily, only to follow it with a cough.

Seeing his dismissive attitude, Beisitian knew he didn’t believe her, but came to terms that there was nothing she could do. In the profession of medicine, generally, the older the doctor, the more experienced. His disbelief was also normal.

Beside them, orderly Li Xuejun was genuinely afraid that Beisitian would later come over with a bowl of medicinal soup, quickly adding, ”Comrade Xiao Bei, the chief has an attending doctor, so you don’t need to worry too much.”

Wu Yuekai was of considerable stature; how could a mere village doctor be allowed to treat him!

Beisitian understood his gentle rejection, inwardly giving a bitter smile, realizing indeed he did not trust her.

Beisitian glanced at the glass beside him and couldn’t help asking, ”What kind of medicine did the attending doctor give you, sir?”

There shouldn’t be anything confidential about this.

Only, Li Xuejun looked puzzled and shook his head, ”He drank a glass of water?”

Beisitian: ”...” What kind of answer is that.

Wu Yuekai laughed out loud, ”Little Li’s right, it’s just a glass of water! My attending doctor isn’t like ordinary ones; the medicine he gives me is always colorless and tasteless.”

Colorless and tasteless?

Beisitian was mildly intrigued; besides talismanic water, could there be other colorless and tasteless medicines?

In this vast world, there are wondrous things indeed. Beisitian felt quite curious about it, but the glass was already empty now, not a drop left. It was said that this was the attending doctor’s requirement, so she had no way to investigate.
