I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 142: Chapter 141: Zhou Jiren’s Peculiarity

What it feels like doesn’t matter, what matters is that he has feeling now!

Mrs. Qin stood dumbfounded with a towel in her hand at the edge of the heated bed, her heart racing fast. She even forgot to wipe Beisitian’s sweat until Beisitian reminded her, and she hurriedly went to wipe it.

Beisitian’s hands didn’t stop, and the remaining six needles took even longer, much longer than before, until all were inserted into Luo Anguo’s leg.

After the last needle was twisted several times, Beisitian released her hand and fell backward, almost collapsing at the edge of the bed, but Mrs. Qin, quick-eyed and deft, caught her!

Mrs. Qin hurriedly placed Beisitian on the bed. Seeing her pale face, tightly closed eyes, and slightly trembling eyelashes, she was startled and quickly called her name.

After a while, Beisitian softly spoke, ”Mom, I’m fine.”

Beisitian didn’t open her eyes. Under normal circumstances, she was in good spirits, but when she focused intensely, she immediately felt exhausted.

Acupuncture itself is a taxing activity, especially in such a situation, which was several times more exhausting than usual. Naturally, Beisitian found it a bit overwhelming.

Mrs. Qin carefully pulled the quilt over to support her back, allowing her to rest against it, and said, ”I’ll call you in twenty minutes. You should take a quick rest.”

Beisitian nodded slightly, keeping her eyes closed and refraining from speaking further.

After settling Beisitian, Mrs. Qin then had the mind to turn and look at Luo Anguo.

Luo Anguo’s expression was extremely complex—a mix of surprise, joy, and disbelief.

Mrs. Qin understood this feeling. He would now probably worry whether he could actually recover or if he would lose sensation again when the time came.

Saying Mrs. Qin wasn’t happy would be a lie. She was so excited she couldn’t sit still, and if she weren’t afraid of disturbing Beisitian’s rest, she would’ve burst into song.

”Is there really a sensation?” Mrs. Qin mouthed silently.

Luo Anguo nodded repeatedly. His leg now felt strange. Initially, he thought it was pain, but after persisting, he realized it wasn’t pain.

It felt somewhat swollen and heavy. His legs had been numb for so long that, upon suddenly having sensation, he mistook it for pain.

If this sensation hadn’t persisted, he might have thought earlier it was an illusion. Now he even had the thought of not wanting to remove the needles, as at least this way, he could feel the presence of his legs.

This feeling was something he hadn’t experienced in a long time—there was a sense of familiarity within the strangeness.

Twenty minutes quickly passed, and Beisitian hadn’t truly fallen asleep. If she did, she’d only wake up by dawn.

After removing all the needles, Beisitian half-closed her eyes and said, ”Mom, massage Dad the way I taught you, back and forth three or four times.”

Mrs. Qin promptly agreed, and Beisitian turned and went back to her room to sleep.

That sleep lasted until lunch.

Beisitian had Mrs. Qin assist Luo Anguo in taking a ’walk’ as usual, followed by a massage.

There was no acupuncture that night. Since Luo Anguo regained sensation, they couldn’t use the Xuan Talisman continuously without causing too much strain on his meridians.

It was also a good opportunity for her to recover a bit.

Now that there was real hope, Luo Anguo became proactive, with many more smiles on his face.

In the afternoon, Beisitian got up after an hour and a half to practice calligraphy. For her, practicing calligraphy was a way to nurture her spirit.

Beisitian performed acupuncture every couple of days, and in half a month, Luo Anguo’s changes became apparent.

Before, he only felt sensation during acupuncture, but now he felt it even without the needles, which made Luo Anguo both surprised and excited.

On this day, Beisitian decided to make a trip to the town. Most of her energy was focused on acupuncture, so she hadn’t had the energy to make other Xuan Talismans. However, Luo Anguo needed some medicine to invigorate circulation, dispel wind, calm the mind, and relax the meridians.

Beisitian took her calligraphy to the town.

Feng Yunzhang returned on the fifteenth. After submitting her calligraphy, Beisitian hesitated slightly then asked, ”Boss Feng, do you know if Mr. Zhou has returned?”

Feng Yunzhang smiled and said, ”He returned the day before yesterday. Is Miss Bei looking for him?”

Beisitian nodded, ”I want to buy some medicine. Mr. Zhou is knowledgeable in this area.”

After leaving the Wenfang Society, Beisitian went to Jishi Pharmacy.

Ma Xiaoling was a local. She had been looking after the pharmacy during the New Year, and as Beisitian had never targeted her since then, she gradually relaxed and became genuinely enthusiastic towards Beisitian.

She led Beisitian to the study in the backyard. As usual, Zhou Jiren was sitting by the window reading a newspaper, peaceful and calm.

When Zhou Jiren looked up, he saw the sunlit Beisitian standing behind, and his eyes widened. For a moment, he thought she was a fairy who had descended to the human world!

Beisitian noticed Zhou Jiren staring straight at her and was slightly taken aback. Such an intensely direct gaze made her feel both shy and awkwardly uneasy.

”Mr. Zhou!” Beisitian had to call out to wake him.

Zhou Jiren looked at her with pursed lips and merely uttered a low ”Hmm.”

Beisitian’s reminder clearly didn’t achieve its purpose, as Zhou Jiren’s gaze seemed glued to her, as if he hadn’t seen enough in ages!

If it weren’t for needing something from him, Beisitian would have turned and left.

”Mr. Zhou!” Beisitian raised her voice and called out again.

Zhou Jiren’s mouth curved slightly, ”I heard you.”

Beisitian’s face was wooden; she didn’t know what expression to use at that moment. Why was he acting so strangely today?

”I want to buy some medicine to invigorate circulation,” Beisitian stated her request directly. ”I don’t know much about Western medicine, so I hope you can give some suggestions.”

”To invigorate circulation...” Zhou Jiren paused, the sparkle in his eyes subsiding, ”Who needs it?”

”My dad,” Beisitian replied.

”What happened to him?” Zhou Jiren put down the newspaper, making a ’please’ gesture, ”Let’s go to the front hall.”

”His legs aren’t agile; he needs something to invigorate circulation,” Beisitian followed him, unaware of any ulterior motives.

Beisitian spoke lightly, and Zhou Jiren quietly breathed a sigh of relief, ”How long has it been?”

”It’s been a few years,” Beisitian said.

Zhou Jiren knew Beisitian was wary of him but wasn’t sure how deep her wariness ran. Whenever he wanted to ask more, she would always speak in vague terms, never saying a word too many.

This made him both relieved and troubled.

To her, ’Zhou Jiren’ was still a stranger, so she was right to act this way!

However, on the other hand, there were countless spies around him. His every move was under surveillance, and trying to gather any information about his family conditions would bring significant risk and crisis to him, his family, and the entire mission.

He mustn’t do that! Nor dare to!
