I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 147: Chapter 146: Mutual Doubts

Suddenly hearing a human voice, Beisitian was startled. She looked towards the sound and her eyes widened abruptly, seeing Zhou Jiren stepping out of the forest in a neat attire.

”What are you doing here?” Beisitian was extremely surprised.

Zhou Jiren was equally surprised to see Beisitian standing amidst ten wolfdogs, knowing that it was he who had scared the deer away to divert the wolf pack.

It seemed that Beisitian always surprised him, and this time was no exception. Who had ever seen a pack of large wolfdogs protecting a human?

Moreover, these large wolfdogs were well-trained, no less than military dogs, which was also what astonished Luo Xudong.

”Let’s leave here first,” Luo Xudong waved at Beisitian, not daring to approach the not-so-friendly wolfdogs easily.

Beisitian lightly patted the mother wolfdog Dahuai’s head, stepped out of the wolfdog pack, and came to Zhou Jiren’s side.

She had already guessed that the few deer had been brought in by him.

The two people and ten dogs quickly left the area.

As they walked, Beisitian was puzzled. The voice when he first appeared seemed different from now!

If it weren’t for the first comparison, she wouldn’t have noticed the current voice’s peculiarity; it seemed somewhat deliberately lowered to sound deeper.

She looked up at his face, recalling the strangeness she discovered once in Wu Yuekai’s courtyard.

Neither of them spoke, continuing forward, quickly covering more than a dozen miles.

Beisitian was amazed by his stamina, a wealthy and powerful boss who could walk quickly this far without getting red-faced or out of breath!

Meanwhile, Luo Xudong was also amazed at her endurance. On the way, he kept observing Beisitian, thinking that if she couldn’t hold on, he would carry her away, but that situation never happened. Beisitian’s cheeks were only slightly flushed, making her all the more charming, and her breathing was very steady.

Neither voiced their doubts; they only stopped for a brief rest after reaching a high slope.

Both had brought water with them and, after taking a sip, sat on a large rock. Beisitian spoke first.

”Why is Mr. Zhou here?”

She observed his short boots, long pants, and succinct outfit, which accentuated his height of over six feet, making him appear taller and more robust.

Judging by the tall and strong physique alone, one would definitely think he was a handsome man. However, reality was harsh; Zhou Jiren’s unremarkable face was complemented by somewhat unsightly little moustaches, and his barely noticeable beard wasn’t good-looking either.

”I’m here for an outing,” Zhou Jiren said.

Outing!

Beisitian knowingly nodded, showing a face of disbelief.

”What are you doing here?” Zhou Jiren asked, looking into her bright eyes.

Knowing she was surrounded by the wolf pack almost made his heart leap out. This girl had a big heart; even a few men wouldn’t remain unfazed in such a scenario, yet she, evidently having no more moves, still showed no sign of panic or dismay on her face.

What could truly affect her mood?

Zhou Jiren had a faint smile as he looked at Beisitian, lost in thought.

”Gathering herbs,” Beisitian replied.

”It’s so dangerous this time of year, yet you chose now,” Zhou Jiren slightly frowned.

”Herbs are also seasonal. Once the season passes, some herbs will be gone.”

With that, the topic paused for a moment, and neither pursued the matter further.

Everyone has their secrets. Like coming to this mountain, Zhou Jinian Ding certainly wasn’t here for an outing, and Beisitian wasn’t there just because of seasonal herbs.

Beisitian felt a slight regret in her heart. Despite getting along well with Zhou Jiren, they couldn’t talk freely due to many barriers and other reasons.

”Did Mr. Zhou bring in those deer?” Beisitian asked. Although she had guessed it was him, she still wanted confirmation.

”There happened to be a few nearby, so I lured them over to distract the wolf pack.”

Zhou Jiren’s tone was casual, but Beisitian knew it couldn’t have been that easy. People often referred to deer as ’stupid deer,’ though in reality, these animals were very intelligent and alert. Their agile moves and strong hooves required more than just brains or brute force to drive them towards the wolf pack.

Beisitian couldn’t imagine how Zhou Jiren, a businessman, could so easily lead the wolf pack away in a short time.

He’s no simple person!

”A great grace requires no thanks. Mr. Zhou saved my life this time. If there’s anything you need from me in the future, please don’t hesitate to ask!”

Doubts aside, Zhou Jiren saving her life was a fact; Beisitian was definitely not one to forget favors.

Zhou Jiren was amused by Beisitian’s ’chivalric tone’ and laughed, ”Miss Bei, if you want to repay me, you can do so now.”

Beisitian paused briefly, quickly pondering. Wouldn’t this man take advantage of the situation at this moment?

This desolate wilderness, where you might not see anyone for days, such a place...

If that’s the case, she absolutely couldn’t agree!

Zhou Jiren saw her expression and chuckled, ”Miss Bei, what kind of outrageous ideas are you thinking about?”

Beisitian noticed the mischievous glint in his eyes, blushed, and knew she was overthinking it. She quickly concealed her embarrassment with a light cough, ”What are you saying, Mr. Zhou? What’s so outrageous? I was just wondering what request you might make.”

Zhou Jiren observed Beisitian’s charming demeanor, his eyes deepening. His faint smile slightly stiffened.

Beisitian hid her embarrassment, turned her head, and found Zhou Jiren staring at her intently. His eyes were deep and unsettling, disrupting the rhythm of her heartbeat.

Faced with such unsettling eyes, Beisitian felt something was amiss, yet she didn’t know how to break the situation.

”Mr. Zhou... Mr. Zhou, are you planning to head back now?”

Beisitian intended to break this inexplicable awkward atmosphere. However, after speaking, she realized it sounded more and more like she was trying to detain him!

”What I mean is...”

”Since Miss Bei is inviting, I’ll join you. I’d also like to explore this mountain,” Zhou Jiren said and walked ahead.

Watching Zhou Jiren walk past her, Beisitian opened her mouth but, uncharacteristically speechless, realized she was defeated by his shamelessness!

In her eyes, that unremarkable face with two unpleasant little moustaches seemed to become unfamiliar, not at all matching the big boss of Jishi Pharmacy!

But for some reason, she always felt that face wasn’t completely unfamiliar. It was a strange yet indescribable feeling.

Whenever she had that feeling, the sense of discord reappeared.
