I Live on the Land in Global Games

Chapter 48 - 48 47 Villager Contract48: Chapter 47 Villager Contract 48: Chapter 47 Villager Contract The village remained as lifeless as ever, and Mu Ying handed the broken Dungeon Core over to the Village Chief.

The Village Chief made a move he had never made before.

He pulled out five blood-stained Villager Contracts from nowhere, placed the Dungeon Core on top of them, and soon, the Dungeon Core fused into the contracts.

The contracts also became clean again.

Mu Ying took the contracts.

[Villager Contract (Wang Fugui)]

[Function: A contract that has saved the ordinary villager Wang Fugui’s soul core, can be used to bind and manage villagers, allows for resurrection within the contract after the villager dies, with a maximum of one resurrection per day]

[Physical Transformation: Non-transformable]

[Source Power Transformation: Non-transformable]

[Villager Contract (Li Ergou)]

[Villager Contract (Zhao Guihua)]

[Villager Contract (Qian Daren)]

[Villager Contract (Wang Mazi)]

Whoosh, five Square people materialized around Mu Ying.

Li Ergou: “Village Chief, Village Chief, I’m hungry, got anything to eat?”

Zhao Guihua: “Me too, me too, if I’m full, I can farm, and my wheat yield is always 10% higher than the others.”

Wang Fugui: “Hehe, Village Chief, what’s our village called again?”

Qian Daren: “I want to eat meat.”

Wang Mazi: “Meat!”

Mu Ying: “...”

The once quiet Square World suddenly became noisy, and she was still not quite used to it.

“You’re calling me Village Chief?”

“Yeah, the one who protects our contracts is our Village Chief, as long as you can fill our bellies, we’ll listen to you!”

Mu Ying looked at the five Square people who looked more or less the same as each other.

They seemed much more lively than the other villagers, no longer repeating mechanical motions, and now they could talk.

With five more mouths to feed, she handed out a good portion of the bread from her bag.

While the villagers ate, Mu Ying went to the Librarian and exchanged 20 Gold Ingots for another Enchantment Book.

[Enchantment Book (Strength)]

[Function: Enchant tools or weapons to reduce energy consumption when used]

[Physical Transformation: 100 Source Power per book]

[Physical Description: When used on equipment, it adds an effect of “Strength +3”]

[Source Power Transformation: Non-transformable]

The Strength Enchantment Book was practical whether used in Square World or transformed and taken out.

But she was still reluctant to use it in Square World, as energy could be replenished by food.

Now she had five more villagers to help her, and the wheat seeds accumulated from the previous period could all be planted.

With proper management, food wouldn’t be a problem.

The real issue was the scarcity of Gold Mines; she had no idea when she would be able to exchange for another book.

Mu Ying set off for home with her villagers in tow.

At her mine, she allocated five separate rooms within the previously hollowed-out mountain.

Then she had Zhao Guihua and Qian Daren go to farm, as the wheat field needed to be expanded, and sent Wang Mazi to chop wood in the forest.

Li Ergou and Wang Fugui followed her to mine underground.

There were many exposed ores in the lengthy tunnel near the dungeon stone house, which was practically a miner’s paradise.

Coal blocks appeared in heaps, there was plenty of iron ore, and she even found a few Gold Mines.

As the day was fast coming to an end, Mu Ying laid down a Single Bed and went to sleep on the spot.

When she opened her eyes again, she indeed saw that purplish-black figure beside her once more.

Still lying in bed, Mu Ying didn’t move, and the purplish-black figure stayed even longer than the previous day before disappearing.

It seemed that, like rotten corpses, it couldn’t appear during the day, and it wasn’t just an issue with sunlight.

Sunlight only accelerated their demise.

The only exception was the room where the Dungeon Core was located yesterday.

The Dungeon Core seemed to protect the rotten corpse through the daylight.

“Eh?

Where are Ergou and Fugui?”

The two who were mining in the tunnel were also gone; Mu Ying had wanted to see if Ergou and Fugui could continue mining while she slept.

She pulled out the Contract and saw that all five of her villagers had died.

She hurriedly resurrected them.

Wang Fugui: “Wuwu, it was terrifying, the evil wizard came again!”

Zhao Guihua: “I was just walking to the cave with Daren, then all of a sudden I knew nothing.”

Wang Mazi: “I’m so hungry, I got some pork yesterday, can I eat it?”

Li Ergou: “All you know is eat, eat, eat!”

“What is this evil wizard?” Mu Ying stopped the others from arguing and pulled Wang Fugui aside.

“The evil wizard controlled the souls of people, leaving only walking corpses to repeat their former activities.

He also shredded the souls and imprisoned them in the Dungeon Core, transforming them into rotten corpses.

I died early because of him, so I saw what he looked like.

He wore a strange purple-black robe, with a hat that covered most of his head and carried a stick.

With a wave of his hand, Ergou was killed by a green light, and then with another wave, I too was dead.

If the Contract weren’t in your hands, we might have been captured again.

Village Chief, you must hide the Contract well.

I don’t want to be chopped up and turned into stinky rotten corpses.”

It was a mosaic, and she couldn’t figure out how he could tell it was a robe, Mu Ying felt a bit speechless, but she got back to the main issue.

“Are you saying that those rigid villagers in the village are that way because the evil wizard took their souls away?”

Wang Fugui nodded again and again.

The others seemed to know about this as well, and they all agreed.

No wonder those villagers were too rigid even as game NPCs.

Mu Ying looked at the five subordinates before her; the souls they controlled weren’t from the Dungeon Core she had destroyed, were they?

All those rotten corpses, were they transformed from them?

The evil wizard was really economical, making so many rotten corpses out of just five villagers.

There were still so many people in the village; there must be other Dungeon Cores.

No wonder the option to exchange the Dungeon Core for a Contract was still available with the Village Chief.

Once she rescued all the villagers, wouldn’t she have a steady supply of materials delivered every day without needing to lift a finger?

Wouldn’t Source Power then be effortlessly within reach?

Mu Ying became interested and stopped mining.

She took her people back to the cave and asked them in detail about this world.

She had originally thought this was a world with rigid rules, similar to a game, but the existence of these five villagers proved otherwise.

She needed to discard her previous understanding and relearn about this world.

Wang Fugui and Zhao Guihua were the smartest among the five.

“Before, whether it was night or day, there was no danger.

Although the village always had the same people, we never worried about food or clothing; we even got tired of bread and never experienced the feeling of death.

Until the village wizard suddenly went mad, saying that we were all frogs at the bottom of a well, trapped in this tiny place.

Later, he said that he was wrong, that only he was the pitiful frog and we were the well trapping him.

To escape from the well, he created a Dungeon Core to control us.

When he tried to steal the Contract from the Village Chief, the Village Chief, sensing something was amiss, destroyed his Contract in advance.

Since then, the wizard lost the world’s protection, becoming fearful of the light and losing the ability to resurrect.

But the wizard’s ability was strange, sending rotten corpses day after day to attack the village; even the Village Chief could not escape.

However, he said a new Village Chief would come in the future to save us, which is you.

Oh, Village Chief, you haven’t named our village yet!”

“...” Mu Ying was ‘moved’ by Fugui’s persistence, “Let’s call it Qingshan Village.”

“Yes yes yes!

Qingshan Village, that’s a good name!”

“Good name!”

“Good!”

Faced with a group of villagers who could barely come up with a few fresh phrases of flattery, Mu Ying could only give a wry smile and then sent them off to work.
