I Live on the Land in Global Games

Chapter 43 - 43 42 Retreat43: Chapter 42 Retreat 43: Chapter 42 Retreat “Captain, we can hardly hold on anymore!”

Huo Shaobai turned back and frowned deeply, “Have the people in the back retreat to Qingshan Camp.

We’ll hold on a bit longer to buy them time to evacuate.”

“Captain Huo, I think it’s better to let them scatter and retreat!”

Mu Ying and the others emerged from the woods, as Li Wei interrupted Huo Shaobai.

“Mu Ying, that person is the Manager of the Coastal Safety Zone, Mr.

Huo.

He’s very likely to be the Huo Shaobai who’s ranked tenth on the level board and first on the combat board,” Liu Luoluo whispered to Mu Ying.

Mu Ying nodded; this person, like the advance squad that had come to the camp before, had a distinct military demeanor.

“What do you mean by this?” the person next to Huo Shaobai said angrily.

“If you go up to the mountain and take a look, you’ll understand.

There are even more zombies approaching, and even if all of our camp’s people come over, we won’t last long.

The only way is to draw the zombies to the camp, rely on the camp’s defenses to kill the zombies.

That way, those who can’t afford to enter the camp can run further and might have a chance to survive,” Li Wei explained.

Huo Shaobai nodded to the person beside him, “Laowu, go take a look.”

Laowu soon came back and confirmed what they had said.

Finally, both sides reached an agreement.

Huo Shaobai’s team sent people to disperse the crowd, while the others formed groups to resist the zombies and retreated to the camp an hour later.

Mu Ying could fight, defend, and heal, but she wanted to try out her new equipment, so she voluntarily joined the frontline battle group.

The battle group was divided into four teams, two from the camp and two from the Coastal Safety Zone, each side arranging for their own rotations.

Mu Ying was grouped with Nie Ying and Zheng Jing, with most of their team’s people in their group.

They got ready, and as soon as the team in front began to fall back, they immediately stepped up to the front.

Mu Ying raised her hand and cast an entanglement technique; instantly, dense vines shot out from the bushes in front and quickly thickened, wrapping around the limbs of the zombies.

“Charge!”

She charged forward with her Spear, first swinging horizontally and tripping over the stumbling zombies, then aiming for the head of one and thrusting down forcefully.

Zheng Jing silently moved to the side.

The first level-1 Spell she learned was also the entanglement technique, and she could cast it stably now, though her Oak Stick Technique was not as refined.

Her main task this time was to stand in the back and trip the zombies with her entanglement technique.

Yes, trip them because her summoned foliage and branches were quite thin, only able to hinder the zombies’ movements.

To truly immobilize a zombie was only barely possible when they focused on a single one.

Looking at Mu Ying again, she had instantly entangled most of the front line zombies in their battle zone tightly.

The zombies couldn’t even struggle free.

Zheng Jing could only focus on a few zombies at the edges that Mu Ying hadn’t managed to deal with.

It was Mu Ying’s first time using the Spear to kill enemies, and fortunately, she had gotten used to the Spear’s attack methods these days.

With the entanglement technique controlling the field, her attacks went quite smoothly.

The Pierce Spear, with its Penetration Power +10 attribute, made it easier and more effortless to stab into the zombies’ heads than a hoe.

After getting accustomed, her attack rate was also higher than when using a hoe, and remember, she hadn’t even used the Oak Stick Technique on the Spear yet.

After leveling up, the duration of her entanglement technique also increased, now reaching around 3 minutes.

With others’ help, all the entangled zombies would be dealt with before the Spell expired.

There was even time to let the vines roll the copper coins toward them, allowing the logistics personnel at the back to gather them up.

Under the protection of Mu Ying’s entanglement technique, the battle in their zone was much safer than elsewhere.

Half an hour later, during rotation, only some melee fighters had their skins scratched by zombies; no one was seriously injured.

Actually, Mu Ying still had 40 points of Mana left at that time, but she didn’t continue to fight because this place was still some distance from the camp and was not safe.

They retreated and divided the zombies’ loot, with everyone’s pouch filled.

“Eh?

Why haven’t they left yet?” Zheng Jing said in surprise, looking into the woods.

There were quite a few sneaky figures hiding inside, stealthily looking this way—they were the ones who had been protected earlier.

“They probably think that we won’t abandon them to die,” Nie Ying said, not without irritation.

“We should still be careful; those who aren’t in good shape should move to the middle.

Be cautious, and don’t get targeted by these people,” Mu Ying, whose Perception Attribute was high and whose vision was better than others by several degrees, could clearly see that some people had hidden weapons in their sleeves.

Nie Ying and the others exchanged glances, each coming to an understanding.

“No way, they don’t even dare to fight zombies, yet they have the guts to make a move on us?” Zheng Jing was very surprised, but she obeyed and moved to the middle of the crowd.

Her Mana Value was depleted, leaving her no different from an ordinary person at this point.

“You can never be sure,” said Nie Ying, a Wanderer with no small prowess in close combat.

She flashed her dagger in the woods, warding off the malicious gaze from within the trees.

Half an hour later, all four groups withdrew simultaneously, running back towards the camp.

There were too many zombies, and they couldn’t pick up many of the items they dropped.

Fortunately, the zombies moved as sluggishly as ever, so fleeing wasn’t a problem.

What they hadn’t expected was that there would be a tiger blocking the path on their retreat.

“Hand over all the copper coins on you, or we won’t let you pass.

Running won’t help; you won’t be able to get into the camp and will end up dead anyway!”

“Right, you were the ones who abandoned us first!”

The people who hadn’t left blocked their retreat, threatening those who had once protected them.

“Impossible!”

“If you want copper coins, go fight the zombies yourself.

There’s no way we’re letting you rob us!”

The mood among the camp’s people was agitated; they were itching to rush forward and fight.

But at the moment, the condition of the Spellcasters wasn’t great, and the opposing group had a decent number of people.

Even so, winning a fight wouldn’t be a problem.

The problem lay in the fact that they had controlled their pace to attract the zombies, and the zombies were not far behind them.

A fight would likely attract the horde of zombies, and that’s when the real danger would come.

It was probably this very likelihood that these people were banking on when they chose this moment to show up.

Huo Shaobai looked at these people, his faith wavering.

Was human nature really so fragile under pressure?

His heart finally hardened, and he said to his teammates, “These people are the danger we brought upon ourselves.

We’ll handle it; let them go first...”

Before he could finish, he was interrupted by a clear, mocking voice next to him.

“Ha, you people are really something.

You don’t dare to kill zombies when there are so many of you, but you’ve got the nerve to block us.

Do we look easier to handle than zombies?”

Mu Ying couldn’t help but laugh angrily, grateful that she had held back a trick or two.

She released several entanglement techniques in quick succession.

The asparagus in the woods grew wildly, binding the hands and feet of the group.

“I think it’s better for you to stay behind and help us block the zombies!”

Mu Ying led the people from the camp around them.

“Don’t go!

We were wrong!”

“Help, the zombies are coming!”

“Wuwu, I don’t want to die!”

...

“Isn’t this a bit too cruel?”

Hearing the pleas and screams from behind, some people from the safety zone felt a twinge of pity.

“If you feel sorry for them, go back and save them.

We certainly won’t stoop to saving such scum,” Liu Luoluo retorted loudly.

If it weren’t for Mu Ying, they would have been in serious trouble today.

Kind-heartedness should be reserved for the deserving.
