I Live on the Land in Global Games

Chapter 35 - 35 34 Continuous Rain and Drizzle35: Chapter 34: Continuous Rain and Drizzle 35: Chapter 34: Continuous Rain and Drizzle In the middle of the night, the rustling sound woke Mu Ying up; she got out of bed, pushed open the window, and was met with a mist of water vapor, “Is it raining?”

It had been over half a month since the last rainfall, so she reached out to catch some raindrops and played with them for a while before closing the window and lying down to sleep again.

The rain continued throughout the night, and the birds stayed inside, avoiding their usual chirping, which allowed Mu Ying the rare luxury of sleeping in.

Mu Ying knelt by the bed, leaning on the windowsill, and stuck half her body out the window to watch the rain.

The rain was as fine as cow hair, dense like brocade, enveloping the entire forest in a layer of mist, turning it into something like a fairyland.

After daydreaming for a while, she decided to get up and go outside for a walk.

When she descended the stairs, Mu Ying immediately noticed that the small table used for storing territory income had toppled over.

On closer inspection, it turned out that the metallic legs of the table had severely corroded.

Mu Ying thought of something, ran over to the kitchen counter, and opened the rice bag, only to find some black mold spots appearing in what were originally shiny white grains of rice—probably inedible before long.

She then checked the eggs and found that they too were slightly blackened and starting to smell rotten.

Mu Ying directly used the territory energy conversion feature to decompose them all as waste.

Everything had been fine last night, but in just one night, things from before Doomsday seemed to have accelerated their decay.

This familiar feeling reminded Mu Ying of the day Doomsday first arrived.

However, there was still at least a week before the time Aisha had mentioned!

Mu Ying’s mood suddenly became much heavier.

She had learned most of the level 2 Spells, but she had not yet advanced to level 3.

Since the food at home was inedible, she might as well go to the Plantation to get something to eat.

She had just removed a batch of seedlings from the Plantation yesterday and hadn’t had the chance to replant them yet; however, there were some tender yellow cucumbers she could pick from the Vegetable Garden.

Mu Ying, braving the rain, ran swiftly to Oak Grocery.

“Wuyaya, do you have any rain gear for sale?”

“Yes, a straw coat for 15 copper coins, a bamboo hat for 15 copper coins, an umbrella for 30 copper coins.”

“Can the sizes be chosen freely?”

“Of course.”

“Then two sets of the straw coat and the bamboo hat, in sizes for me and Yuan Gungun, and a large umbrella,”

“...” I see you’re putting me, Wuyaya, in a tough spot, “The smaller set will be double the price!”

“Alright,” Mu Ying generously placed the money on the counter.

Seeing the money, Wuyaya felt compelled to make the sale, “Just wait a moment.”

It vanished behind the counter, and all Mu Ying could hear was a clanging noise inside, not knowing what it was doing.

Soon, one large and one small straw coat along with bamboo hats were slammed onto the counter, making Mu Ying second-guess Wuyaya’s strength.

“Hmm, not bad at all,” Mu Ying fitted herself into the larger coat, put on the bamboo hat, and, satisfied with her purchase, walked off under the raised umbrella.

Once home, she fitted Yuan Gungun with the smaller straw coat and bamboo hat and loaded its usual small basket with a few Pocket Soft Bamboos.

Mu Ying also grabbed her own basket, but as she gently pinched it, the bamboo splinters just fell apart, “...”

She really hadn’t expected the basket to break; perhaps the bamboo cage was also ruined.

Fortunately, Yuan Gungun’s little basket, which she had bought from the grocery store, was still in good condition.

She had no choice but to return to the grocery store.

“Why are you back again?” Wuyaya glanced at Yuan Gungun beside her, dressed in the little straw coat and bamboo hat, Hmm—its craftsmanship was indeed excellent; it might make a set for itself one day.

“Sigh, a lot of things broke this morning and can’t be used anymore,” Mu Ying said helplessly, “Do you know what’s going on?”

“What would a raven know, huh?

Stop the nonsense.

What do you want to buy?” Wuyaya asked irritably, squinting her eyes.

“Get me a carrying basket and two bamboo baskets, the type that can be placed on an ox’s back.”

“That will be 30 copper coins.”

“Smack!” Mu Ying took out a handful of copper coins and slapped them on the table.

She glanced at them and then picked two coins back up.

With her freshly made carrying basket on her back, Mu Ying was finally able to leave her house.

Because of the rainy weather, there weren’t many people walking around the camp.

Those who did not rent a treehouse were either hiding from the rain at the tavern or inside newly bought tents.

Mu Ying, holding an umbrella, followed by the plump Gungun, avoided other people’s gazes and snuck into the plantation.

“Eh?

Is the color of this cucumber a bit off?

And these tomatoes, are they growing too big?”

Upon entering the vegetable garden, Mu Ying was stunned.

Was this still her garden?

The cucumbers were tender and green just yesterday, as if they were full of water.

Today they had turned yellow, a golden yellow, like a golden light bulb shining with light, yet still tender and full of water.

If not for using the recently learned Identify Plants to confirm it was still yesterday’s cucumber, Mu Ying would have thought it was some invading species.

“Cucumber, an annual, trailing herbaceous plant, with oblong fruits that are edible, mature at golden yellow and emit a golden glow from their skin...”

Everything was normal except for the mature color and the glowing skin; thankfully, they were still edible.

Mu Ying plucked one and took a bite, “Yes, this is definitely the taste of a cucumber.”

Besides cucumbers, there were also tomato plants that had sprouted up like little trees, with thick stems bearing several pumpkin-sized tomatoes.

Fortunately, compared to the glowing cucumbers, these were just bigger.

One could still tell at a glance that they were tomatoes, and even the results of Identify Plants seemed somewhat normal.

“Tomato Trees, perennial shrubs, large fruit, nearly spherical, bright red, edible...”

Apart from changing from an annual herb to a perennial shrub, there wasn’t anything too serious.

With these glowing cucumbers and giant tomatoes, Mu Ying was somewhat prepared when she saw the likes of milky lettuce and sour cabbage.

The peach trees and jujube trees seemed almost unchanged, except they had grown a lot taller.

After eating a cucumber and sharing a giant tomato with Yuan Gungun, Mu Ying’s stomach was full.

She was unsure what was affecting these plants.

Mu Ying loaded some of these strange vegetables into her carrying basket, covered them with leaves, and excitedly ran back to Oak Grocery.

“...” Wuyaya didn’t even bother to lift her head this time; on such a rainy day, she seemed too weary to care.

“Wuyaya, I need to see Grandpa Shom,” Mu Ying said, holding the carrying basket.

“Oh, go on in,” Wuyaya replied disinterestedly, redirecting her gaze.

“I guessed you would be coming soon.”

As soon as Mu Ying entered the back room, she saw Grandpa Shom sitting there as if he had been waiting for a while.

Hearing his words, she grew even more curious.

“Did you know I was coming?”

“This rain today is not ordinary; I guessed you must have discovered some peculiar things?” Shom stroked his beard, nodding his head.

“You know about that plantation I manage, right?

Some of the plants in the vegetable patch seem to have mutated,” Mu Ying said as she pulled back the leaves covering her basket, revealing the fruits and vegetables inside.

“Oh?” Shom stepped forward to look.

“Glowing cucumbers, tomato trees...

quite interesting indeed.”
