I Live on the Land in Global Games

Chapter 31 - 31 30 Penny’s Cloth Workshop31: Chapter 30: Penny’s Cloth Workshop 31: Chapter 30: Penny’s Cloth Workshop Unlike the deserted furniture store, the cloth shop did brisk business.

The prices here were much more people-friendly, with the ceiling price that could compete with the furniture store’s, yet the floor price was much lower.

The hottest selling items were the coarse cloth garments that went for just a few copper coins apiece.

In the post-apocalyptic world, frequent battles caused clothing to wear out quickly, and for some reason, clothes became extremely prone to wear and tear.

Many garments from mall boutiques would crumble at a touch, while only those made of pure cotton lasted a bit longer.

In fact, most people had come to terms with the various changes that had occurred since the apocalypse.

The pre-apocalyptic items were disappearing rapidly, as if everything was being overturned and starting anew, but items that emerged after the apocalypse didn’t fall into this category, especially those sold in these shops.

The shop was crowded, with several copies of the product catalog distributed, and many samples of garments and fabrics hanging around.

Mu Ying noticed that the girls in the shop were intently flipping through the catalogs, while the more numerous males seemed somewhat disinterested, squeezing near the counter and occasionally glancing at the figure behind it.

She was a woman completely different from Aisha, with a voluptuous figure where the word “charming” was fully embodied.

She was clearly aware of the advantages of her physique and knew how to use the right clothing to accentuate them.

Mu Ying couldn’t help but take a few extra glances.

“Aisha?

What a coincidence!

Are you settled in this territory, too?

Did you come with your sister?”

The beauty’s figure swayed gracefully, her voice hooked the listener, evoking stirring emotions.

“????” Mu Ying looked at Aisha with suspicion.

A friend of hers?

“I now regret coming with you and regret even more not making staying away from Penny in the same territory a condition,” Aisha took a deep breath, adjusted her irritable mood, and turned to ignore the beauty’s flirtatious look.

The person in front clearly knew Aisha well and didn’t mind being ignored.

She shifted her gaze to Mu Ying standing next to Aisha, “Cute little girl, I’m Penny, the owner of this shop.

Are you looking to buy some clothes?”

“Uh, yeah, I need to buy some bedding,” Mu Ying nodded.

“Here, this is our shop’s catalog.

You can use it to select goods.

Do you mind if I borrow Xiao Aisha for a while?”

“?” Mu Ying caught the catalog that Penny handed over, feeling caught in the middle and uncertain.

What does Aisha have to do with me, and why should I care about her being borrowed?

She decisively began flipping through the catalog to distance herself from the battlefield.

Upon opening it, she discovered that the catalog also functioned as a point of sale, which was quite magical.

You could simply drop the money into the catalog to receive the goods.

She chose carefully, several thick quilts, two sets of plain-colored bed sheets and duvet covers, two cashmere carpets, and three sets of plain-colored clothing, including underwear, base layers, robes, and shoes.

The styles of clothes in this shop were rather retro, similar to those of the Western Middle Ages.

There were complicated formal dresses as well as casual clothes that facilitated movement.

The three sets that Mu Ying bought were classic in design, simple and practical for movement, made of durable and skin-friendly breathable fabric.

There was one set each in light green, Green Grass, and dark green—all of that for just 10 silver coins.

“Xiao Aisha, how about some drinks at the tavern tonight?

My treat!”

“Sorry, someone has already asked me for tonight.”

Mu Ying swiftly paid, gathered her things, and then felt her arm lighten as her purchases disappeared.

“I’ll carry these for you,” Aisha left a few short words before running out as if chased by someone.

“Ha ha, Xiao Aisha is still so cute!” Penny bent from laughter.

What kind of people have come to my territory?

Mu Ying shook her head, letting go of all those messy thoughts, and chased after her.

Aisha helped deliver the items to her home, “I have other things to do, so I won’t go to the tavern.

Next time, I’ll treat you.”

Mu Ying always felt that Aisha was afraid of running into Penny at the tavern and thought about how she had helped her pick up some items.

Moreover, this person who owned an entire beautiful kitchen didn’t even know how to cook; wouldn’t she starve on her way back?

Since Mu Ying also had something she wanted to inquire about, she casually offered to keep her company, “If you don’t mind, why not have something to eat at my place?

It won’t be much though, as resources are limited.”

“Hmm?” Aisha was taken aback for a moment but quickly grasped what Mu Ying had said and agreed, “I don’t mind at all, as long as there’s food.”

“You just sit for a while; I’ll put these things away and then start cooking,” Mu Ying opened the package, spread the rose-patterned carpet in front of the fireplace by the sofa, and called Aisha to sit.

She then carried the remaining items and clomped upstairs.

She spread another Green Grass-patterned carpet in the bedroom, placed the bedding directly on the bed, and shoved the clothes into the wardrobe, tidying up in just a few minutes.

When she came downstairs, she caught Aisha playing with Yuan Gungun.

Yuan Gungun clearly loved the new carpet, rubbing back and forth on it, but as soon as Aisha reached out her hand, it quickly turned its head, baring its teeth at her with a little peach in its hand.

“Stop!”

Mu Ying was startled and shouted to stop her, leaping down the stairs to stuff the peach back in place.

“Gungun, this is a guest!”

Yuan Gungun sulkily pursed its mouth—fine, if it couldn’t throw, it wouldn’t throw.

Mu Ying soothingly stroked its head and let it go off to play on its own.

“Sorry about that, it’s just so cute; I couldn’t help myself,” Aisha apologized, scratching her head.

After saying that, her expression suddenly darkened—why did that sound like Penny’s catchphrase?

Mu Ying could totally relate—who wouldn’t want to touch a panda?

She often couldn’t resist herself.

The household’s grain storage wasn’t ample; there was a bag of rice, a few pieces of cured meat, a basket of eggs, a bunch of wild vegetables, and a basketful of Pocket Soft Bamboo shoots that Grandpa Shom had gifted.

Since she had a guest today, she might as well prepare something nicer.

Mu Ying thought about it and without hesitation used Yuan Gungun’s bamboo shoots.

Bamboo shoots stir-fried with cured meat and scrambled eggs with wild vegetables—just two dishes, but both were stir-fries.

These days she had been sticking to simple noodles and porridge as the main meals, adding a bit of Recovery Spring to enhance the flavor, but truthfully, the meals had been bland.

Now, putting some effort into cooking, Mu Ying herself couldn’t help craving for something good.

She went ahead and made generous portions of each dish, hoping to eat her fill.

Any leftovers wouldn’t matter; she could eat them the next day.

Mu Ying had now become proficient at using the primitive stove, but compared to the convenient and fast tools before the apocalypse, it was still much more trouble.

Especially the step of cooking rice, which needed constant attention to the situation in the pot and the heat—first boiling, then simmering, and even scooping out excess rice soup in between.

However, rice cooked this way had a more homely taste, particularly those crispy rice crusts at the bottom.

Cut them up, and they made a nice plate of snacks.

Once the rice was cooked, the stir-frying went quickly.

The moment the cured meat hit the pan, the aroma wafted out swiftly.

“What kind of meat is this?” Aisha came over, drawn by the smell.

“Cured meat.

It’s just pork that’s been smoked,” Mu Ying explained.

Soon, two large plates of dishes plus a plate of rice crusts were served, plenty to go around.

“Dinner’s ready!”

“Mmm, delicious!” Aisha wasn’t accustomed to using chopsticks; she even went home specifically to bring a fork and knife.

She skewered a piece of the cured meat and felt her eyes light up with the first bite.

Mu Ying also enjoyed the evening’s meal; her average cooking skills, bolstered by Recovery Spring, seemed quite extraordinary.

The two humans and one bear finished their meal as if a storm had passed through, and she even forgot the questions she had meant to ask.

It wasn’t until she slumped into her chair to digest after the meal that Mu Ying finally remembered.
