System vs Rebirth

Chapter 1621: Sobered Up

The Zaecuria Kingdom might be the fastest to react, but the one who got the news earliest was none other than the Greenwood Kingdom.

Due to their strategic position, they needed to face fewer demons compared to the rest.

That was why another debate was going on.

”Are we really going to send reinforcements? We are lucky because of our position.”

”Just because we’re lucky doesn’t mean we’re going to abandon them. There’s a possibility that we lose. At that time, we’ll lose everything. What are you going to do about it?”

The king had been hearing their debate for a while.

On the one hand, they didn’t want to spill their own blood when there was no need to do so. On the other hand, the world was in peril.

If they lost, they would lose everything.

That was why they were a bit skeptical. In the end, they were thinking more about themselves.

The king could only let out a sigh while glancing at the prime minister. ”What do you think?”

”I believe we should mobilize everything we’ve got. Tell the nobles to utilize their private armies to hold back the demons in our kingdom. Meanwhile, our kingdom’s army will be sent as reinforcements to other countries.

”Although it’s true that spilling our own blood when it’s not necessary is a bad thing, everyone is in danger right now. If we lose, we won’t be able to resist even if we spend all our power to stop the demons.

”In the case we win, there’s no telling what Noel Ardagan will do after learning we don’t send anything out.”

The king couldn’t help but agree. There was no need for Noel. Even other kingdoms would frown upon them.

They might form an alliance to suppress their trade or even their entire kingdom. ”Sometimes, I can’t help but wonder how much this politics has been affecting my mind.

”In the past, I would probably send them without hesitation, because in the face of a common enemy, we are all allies.

”At one point, I started to think about benefits... and that even ruined my relationship with my former mentor.” The king closed his eyes for a moment. ”There is no time to waste anymore.”

”Yes, Your Majesty. You have to make a decision right now. If we waste too much time, it will be seen as deliberate.” The prime minister nodded.

The king stood up and declared aloud, ”I have made my decision. All the nobles and their private armies will now head to the battlefield. Since the battlefield has reached its peak maturity, there won’t be any additional attacks, so we can focus on killing what is already on the battlefield.

”Minister, immediately arrange their positions. We will obliterate everything on our two fronts. Any noble who is found to be hiding their troops or trying to avoid their responsibility will be stripped of their title and judged by the martial court.

”All the kingdom’s soldiers will be directed to various battlefields. The Muivell Kingdom is hit the hardest, so we still send half of them to the Muivell Kingdom, specifically to the Ardagan territory.

”The other half will be sent to the Atracaeca Kingdom. They have the highest chance of being breached, and we can’t allow that to happen.

”Use all available airships to send our troops and supplies to those kingdoms.

”As for the soldiers on the southern front, I want them to continue all the way to the Zaecuria Kingdom once they’re able to and begin with a relief effort.

”Get it done now!”

All the ministers were shocked. Some wanted to complain, but the king had even mentioned martial court, so it was clear that this decision didn’t leave any room for other opinions.

The king couldn’t help but return to his seat while looking at the ceiling. Since when did he change?

He remembered that he was so happy when his daughter was chosen to be Noel’s disciple. He became much happier when Noel was promoted and started inventing things.

It might have been from that time that he got drunk on his own power. He thought that everything would be fine as long as he had Livia.

However, without him realizing it, he had lost that kind of advantage. Even with that connection, Tristan didn’t take advantage of Noel’s power, so when he, Livia’s father, tried to do it, he had crossed the point of no return.

Noel didn’t treat him kindly anymore, and the nature of the trade between the Ardagan family and the Greenwood Kingdom had changed. He even lost his former mentor.

And that change didn’t only affect him. It affected a lot of ministers under him. They thought that they could achieve anything as long as they had Livia. The prince didn’t fight for the throne. They were fighting for Livia.

The one who got a hold of her would get the throne.

As a result, the greed for Livia had soared so high that it was affecting the entire court.

The king couldn’t help but bite his lip. ”I guess history has repeated itself. Just like my ancestor losing the favor of the Ardagan family, my generation ends up the same.”

He shook his head firmly. He couldn’t change the past, but there was still a lot of work to do in the future.

”Prime Minister. I want you to do one thing for me.” The king’s expression turned solemn.

”I understand, Your Majesty. Please give me your order.”

The king’s expression turned solemn. ”The country can’t be without a king, so I want you to bring my younger brother here.”

”Your Majesty, what did you...” The prime minister was shocked, but looking at his serious expression, the prime minister couldn’t help but imagine one possibility. ”Don’t tell me...”

The king nodded. ”Please arrange it right away. I have been drunk on my own power for quite some time. This is probably the first time I’ve sobered up. I want to do at least the right thing, both as a human and as a king.”

The prime minister was concerned, but he couldn’t say no to that face.

”I... understand.”
