Chapter 1618: Merchants

”Look at this. Watch how your mother is going to die right before your eyes!” The Land Demon King grinned. If they could defeat her quickly, Noel would lose his focus.

”Kill them all!” Leysha waved her hand. ”This is what we have prepared for so long. Make sure to unleash everything we have!”

”Oohhh!” All the people let out their battle cry.

Most of them were not mercenary. Instead, they were the people that Leysha and Luke once helped in the past during the charity.

They wanted to repay their kindness, and this was the time.

Leysha looked at the incoming ancient demons. ʼItʼs a shame that Luke doesnʼt have any fighting capability, so he canʼt be here. But I guess thereʼs only one place for him to go. In that case, I can only do one thing…ʼ

Leyshaʼs expression turned grim. Even if she died, she had to make sure Noel was protected.

”Raven. Kill them all!” Leysha shouted.

”Yes, Maʼam!” Raven led the army at the front, clashing with the superior demon army.

However, not a single one of them was afraid of the demons. If it meant victory, they would gladly throw their lives away.

That was why the demons wouldnʼt be able to overwhelm them.

Noel shouted, ”Attention to all troops in the city. Release everything youʼve got. Aim at the demon army and assist our people. Kill them all!”

”Oohhh!” The soldiers on the wall cheered. They immediately activated the runes.

…

Inside the city, Maxwell couldnʼt help but drink alcohol.

”What are you doing here? Everyone is fighting. Shouldnʼt you evacuate, Mr. First Merchant?”

”Theressa…” Maxwell looked at her with a helpless expression. ”I can do nothing in this battle. To think that what we have built will depend on whether we can survive this war or not… What about you? Youʼre not going to escape?”

Theressa chuckled. ”Thereʼs no way Iʼm going to escape. You might not know this, but my parents died because demons attacked their caravan when they were delivering goods.

”So, Iʼm not going to leave here. Instead, I will manage the people here so that they will be able to fight. As long as I can see the downfall of a demon king, dying is worth it.

”For someone like me, thatʼs the most suitable ending.” Theressa shook her head. ”Well, I can accompany you for fifteen minutes. After that, I will have to get back there. It will be bad if I slack off here when the others are doing everything they can to fight.”

Maxwell fell silent for a moment.

Suddenly, a manʼs voice echoed in the room. ”Why would the two of you remain here when the others are working their asses out there?”

”We are…” Theressa wanted to reply, but as she turned around, she saw the figure who she didnʼt expect was still alive.

Even Maxwell couldnʼt help but widen his eyes in shock. ”You… You… You are still alive? Luke Ardagan!”

As a merchant, there was no way they wouldnʼt recognize this person. This was the former number one merchant in the kingdom, no, in the world. Before he was executed, Luke ranked first with a large margin.

Luke was accompanied by Silvester.

”Well, I donʼt care what youʼre thinking about, but right now, there is only one job I can do as someone who only possesses a brain.” Luke pointed at them. ”Any of you have a good enough reputation in the Ardagan family? I want you to lead me to their mansion so that I can help with the chain of command.”

Theressa was stunned, while Maxwell shook his head furiously as if he were trying to sober up. He stood up and straightened his back.

”Yes, sir. If you donʼt mind, I will guide you to that place.”

Theressa smiled wryly. Maxwellʼs attitude changed drastically the moment he saw Luke. Then again, there was no one in the business world who didnʼt respect Luke. He was a legend after all.

Theressa nodded. ”Maxwell should be able to do it, but are you really Luke Ardagan? I simply canʼt believe it. I donʼt want to make a mistake in case you are a demonic human. After all, you were supposed to be executed over a decade ago.”

”My son has cleared my name, hasnʼt he? I understand that you donʼt trust me, but Iʼm currently the best person to handle this problem.”

Theressa contemplated. What he said was true. If he managed to fool the world for over a decade, his brain would definitely be useful for this war.

”If you still donʼt believe me, I and Leysha have been hiding the whole time. The execution was all fake. If you go out right now, you will be able to find her fighting alongside my son. Unfortunately, I possess no combat power, so I can only offer my brain. For that, Iʼd like to request your help so that I can be of help to my son.”

Theressa sighed. ”If thatʼs the case, Maxwell can do it. I have to remain in this city so that thereʼs someone who can manage the city to help the fight outside.”

”Itʼll be my pleasure to help you, sir!” Maxwell became extremely polite.

”I see. So, Maxwell. You are going to help me? Iʼm counting on you.” Luke smiled. He already knew both of them since Maxwell was already among the top ten when he was at the top of the business world.

On the other hand, Theressaʼs father was also among them.

Luke simply grabbed Maxwell by the arm and dragged him away. At the same time, he waved his hand to Theressa. ”Goodbye, young lady. Iʼm sure that Feirett will be proud of you. Keep up the good work.”

Theressaʼs body shook as he mentioned her fatherʼs name. She could only let out a sigh. She originally planned to take a breather here, but because of Luke, she ended up losing the desire to take a breather.

”I guess I will have to work hard.” Theressaʼs lips curved as she rushed outside.
