The Fantastic Little Farmer

Chapter 144: Chapter 144: Staying the Night

Ouyang Mingruo immediately sat up straight and quickly asked, ”What happened?”

”I’m sorry! I’m sorry!” the driving bodyguard apologized profusely. ”That joke just now was too lame...”

Ouyang Mingruo was left speechless.

Zhang Yun couldn’t help but kick the back of the driver’s seat. ”What did I tell you? See no evil, hear no evil! Not only were you eavesdropping on our conversation, but you actually cringed so hard at my joke that you slammed on the brakes!”

”I’m sorry, I’m sorry...” The bodyguard hastily continued driving while repeatedly apologizing.

Looking at Zhang Yun’s flustered and exasperated expression, and then thinking about how lame the joke must have been to affect the bodyguard that much, Ouyang Mingruo couldn’t help but laugh uncontrollably.

”If some people don’t know how to tell jokes, they shouldn’t force it. Don’t embarrass yourself by pulling out those tired old dad jokes.”

After this little episode, Ouyang Mingruo’s mood was indeed much more relaxed.

The car returned to the city, and Ouyang Mingruo had the bodyguard drive to her place.

Perhaps due to the estrangement from her father, she didn’t live at home, but instead stayed in a high-end apartment. Remembering that they hadn’t gotten to eat at the service station earlier, Mingruo called ahead to order takeout from a familiar restaurant before they even arrived.

”This really is a high-end apartment. It even has facial recognition. Non-residents can’t sneak in at all.”

Initially, Zhang Yun had been a bit worried about her safety living alone out here. Now, looking at the environment, anyone who could afford to live here was financially well-off, and the security was incredibly strict.

”Yes. Takeout, deliveries, and the like are also passed on by the security guards. Outsiders never come into contact with the residents.”

Ouyang Mingruo led him into the apartment. ”Take a seat anywhere. I’ll get the first-aid kit and apply some medicine to your wounds.”

Zhang Yun’s heart warmed. She had just gone through an earth-shattering ordeal, survived a bomb crisis, and watched with her own eyes as her second uncle was forced into a sea of flames. Under such circumstances, it was truly remarkable that she hadn’t forgotten about his injuries.

”Um... I’m perfectly fine, and you’re safe now. You should take a hot shower and get a good night’s sleep. I’m covered in dirt, so I’d better go stay at a hotel.”

The interior style leaned toward simple and elegant, but it was clearly the work of a master designer. It gave off a very comfortable vibe, and everywhere he looked was spotlessly clean. Covered in soot, ash, and bloodstains, Zhang Yun really felt out of place.

”What are you saying? When I went to your house, you didn’t make me stay at a hotel. How could I make you go to a hotel?”

”Uh, I think it was because you refused to go.”

”When I went to your house, of course I had to sleep in your room. Now that you’re at my place, you naturally have to sleep in mine. I didn’t want to stay at a hotel, so extending that logic to you, I don’t want you to stay at a hotel either. Logically, it makes perfect sense.”

”...”

”Then I’ll go take a shower first.”

Zhang Yun felt helpless. Regardless, he had already slept on the floor at home last night. The conditions here were much better; crashing on the couch would be absolutely fine.

”Okay.” Ouyang Mingruo immediately led him to the bathroom, then looked at him with concern. ”You have injuries on your back, so it won’t be convenient to wash up. Let me help you!”

”No need!” Zhang Yun quickly refused. He thought, ”Are you kidding me? There’s no way I’d be able to control myself!”

”But... if water gets into the wounds, they won’t heal easily, and it’ll hurt a lot.”

Zhang Yun felt that while she was genuinely concerned, she also wore a half-smile, as if she had finally caught a golden opportunity.

”I’ve got thick skin, so a little scratch is nothing! I’ll just be careful and use the mirror.”

Mingruo pointed at his backside. ”You call that a little scratch? The blood has even soaked into your pants! The way the security guard looked at you earlier, he probably thought Aunt Flo came to visit...”

Just as he was stepping into the bathroom, Zhang Yun nearly stumbled in shock!

”How is that possible! Anyone with eyes can see that I’m a tough-as-nails manly man!”

”Hehe, there are plenty of flat-chested, androgynous girls with short hair who wear men’s clothing. Plus, you could also be a hardcore butch lesbian!”

Zhang Yun immediately shut the door and solemnly locked it.

Ouyang Mingruo laughed from the outside. ”Hey! What are you doing? Locking the door to guard against me? This is my house. Do you really think I don’t have a key?”

Zhang Yun didn’t believe she would actually use a key to come in. Yet as a result, just as he took off his clothes, a KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK sounded on the door!

”What do you want?”

”I’m bringing you a bath towel. The one inside is the one I’ve used... If you like, you can just use that one.”

Standing at the door, Zhang Yun opened it half a foot.

Ouyang Mingruo said with a faint smile, ”What? Do you mind using a towel I’ve already used?”

”Hand it over.”

The moment Zhang Yun took the towel from her, he immediately shut the door and locked it again. As a result, Ouyang Mingruo knocked again.

”What is it now?” Zhang Yun was getting a bit impatient.

”What size clothes do you wear?”

”Huh?”

”Your clothes are torn and covered in blood. They’ll never wash clean, and you’ll scare people if you wear them outside. Going back like that will definitely terrify Uncle Zhang. I’ll have a clothing store deliver a set.”

”Uh, I’m not entirely sure off the top of my head. I think I’ve tried them all. Size M?”

”Pass all your clothes and pants out so I can check the size tags. Hurry up! If it gets too late, the store might close!”

Zhang Yun didn’t think much of it. It didn’t matter who checked the tags, and her looking at them outside wouldn’t delay his shower. He had already taken off his clothes and put them in the laundry basket, so he opened the door halfway and passed the basket out while hiding behind the door.

After closing the door, Zhang Yun finally realized what was happening.

A figure of Ouyang Mingruo’s Level wore nothing but designer labels and luxury brands. She probably wanted to buy him clothes but was afraid his male ego would get in the way, which was why she hastily made up an excuse, right?

Her thoughtfulness made Zhang Yun feel incredibly warm and comfortable!

If it had been the past, he would have felt a bit awkward being gifted an outfit worth thousands or tens of thousands. Not only would it raise suspicions of him being a kept man, but since all his other clothes were cheap, wearing something like that out would make it look like a cheap knockoff. But now that he had millions in his own bank account, he could afford such things himself. Having that kind of backing meant he wouldn’t feel inferior.

He went to the mirror to examine his injuries. The wound on his back had already healed, but there was still a long scratch mark, as well as on his arm. The burned areas hadn’t blistered or anything, but there was still a distinct red patch.

Zhang Yun had originally wanted to see if the injuries were severe. If they were, he would take this opportunity to enter the Peach Blossom Spring Space and pluck a petal to eat. Looking at it now, it was completely unnecessary. Otherwise, if his body ran too hot from the petal, Ouyang Mingruo would definitely mistake it for him being consumed by lust!

Outside, Ouyang Mingruo flipped through the tags on Zhang Yun’s clothes. The bloodstains, torn holes, burn marks, and the lingering scent of instant noodles... these were all the traces Zhang Yun had left behind while saving her!

She really wanted to keep them as a memento, but setting aside the bloodstains, that instant noodle smell... it would reek if she stashed them away. In the end, she decided to store these memories in her heart, taking photos of the clothes with her phone instead.

Afterward, Mingruo called the sales manager of a familiar brand and asked her to pick out a set of men’s clothing in his size and deliver it over. This high-end apartment was located right in the CBD, and there were brand counters in the nearby large shopping malls. They weren’t closed yet, so delivering it in half an hour would be no problem at all.

”You guys... deliver it to me Ming Tian morning!”

Hehe! Judging by Zhang Yun’s attitude, if he didn’t have pajamas, he would probably just wear the new clothes to sleep. It wasn’t about her feeling bad for the clothes, but rather that it would completely kill the mood! This was a rare opportunity!

Now he had nothing left to wear; the only thing available to him was a bath towel... Thinking about Zhang Yun’s upcoming awkward predicament, Mingruo couldn’t help but giggle foolishly.
