The Fantastic Little Farmer

Chapter 143: Chapter 143: Making You Happy

Zhang Yun was a little surprised. He hadn’t expected the man to be so resolute. Ouyang Mingruo opened her mouth, wanting to call out and stop him, but ultimately remained silent.

If she were the only one involved, perhaps she could have forgiven him. However, the subsequent explosion had nearly killed her father and brother. And then there was Zhang Yun! If she went soft-hearted and pleaded for her second uncle, how could she face the other three people by her side?

Watching Ouyang Qilin charge inside, Ouyang Kunpeng let out a long sigh. The imposing aura he had maintained instantly collapsed by more than half.

Old Jin and the others were also somewhat moved to see Ouyang Qilin rush into the sea of fire himself. He truly was a man capable of great things; anyone else would never have been able to do it.

Zhang Yun had rushed out from inside. While it looked like a massive sea of flames from the outside, there was actually a lot of space within. Especially after the collapse above created a gap, much of the fire and smoke had been sucked upward.

The greatest cause of casualties in an explosion was the shockwave, while in a fire, it was smoke inhalation. Relatively few people actually burned to death.

Zhang Yun estimated that Ouyang Qilin was definitely familiar with the interior. Once inside, if he avoided the collapsing debris and direct flames, he could still hold out for a while before the thick smoke and high temperatures suffocated him. Escaping was out of the question, but he would still have time to make a phone call and leave his last words.

However, Zhang Yun didn’t say this out loud. Even if the man did leave his last words, it would at most sow seeds of hatred in his wife and children. Having learned this lesson, Ouyang Kunpeng wouldn’t give them a chance to turn the tables. There was no need to play the villain by bringing it up now.

Old Jin was very tactful. Since the boss had already forced Ouyang Qilin to throw himself into the sea of fire, he naturally wouldn’t let him survive. Therefore, after dealing with the bodies, he led his men to stand guard in front of the flames, preventing any possibility of the man charging back out.

”Zhang Yun, today you are a great benefactor to our family. I won’t spout any useless words of gratitude; I will definitely repay you well.” Ouyang Kunpeng forced himself to shift his attention, patting Zhang Yun heavily on the shoulder. ”There are still many things to deal with tonight. I can’t rest; I have to pull myself together and face them. Chunqiu will handle them with me. In a moment, I’ll have Mingruo take you to receive treatment and settle down for some rest. Please forgive my poor hospitality!”

Zhang Yun nodded. He was the kind of person who could sleep out in the wilderness, so he didn’t care about hospitality. Tonight, Ouyang Kunpeng had to purge the Qilin Faction Members and stabilize the Ouyang Family once again, ensuring this mess wouldn’t implicate or drag Zhang Yun into it.

Ouyang Kunpeng tried his best to smile at his daughter. ”Mingruo, you are the one hurt the deepest tonight. Don’t overthink anything else. Chunqiu and I will handle the rest. You and Zhang Yun go relax and get something to eat.”

Mingruo pursed her lips, trying to squeeze out a smile but failing. ”Okay.”

She had just decided to withdraw from the family business as an apology, so naturally, she didn’t care that her father was taking Ouyang Chunqiu to fight this battle. Even if they took the opportunity to seize her power, it didn’t matter anymore. She had only one thought right now: she was so tired! Physically and mentally exhausted!

Soon, Old Jin arranged for someone to drive Mingruo and Zhang Yun away first, while he and the rest waited for the boss’s orders.

From a privacy standpoint, Ouyang Mingruo would have preferred to drive herself. However, at this moment, she didn’t want to move at all. She was also afraid of getting into an accident and didn’t want Zhang Yun to exert himself any further. Sitting in the back seat of the car, she didn’t say a word, simply leaning against Zhang Yun and nestling into him.

”Was I too harsh?” After a long silence, Ouyang Mingruo finally couldn’t help but ask.

Zhang Yun stroked her hair. ”You already have the answer. Don’t overthink it. The matter has passed. Look forward, and always keep your guard up around everyone from now on.”

Mingruo gently nudged him with her head. ”Even you? Should I be guarded against you too?”

”Of course! How many days have you even known me? You don’t know my strengths, and I don’t know your depth... Uh, I mean, I don’t know your character, your personality, or anything like that.”

Mingruo lightly slapped his arm. That follow-up explanation was just a deliberate, suggestive reminder! She found herself slightly amused. ”I feel like... I used to scheme too much...”

It was just that she had used all her scheming on her own family, which was exactly what had given Ouyang Qilin an opportunity to strike!

Zhang Yun casually comforted her. ”Then just adopt a more open-minded attitude from now on. Don’t bicker over every little thing, and perhaps you’ll stay far away from certain conflicts.”

”Marry me. With you by my side, you can remind me, comfort me, and protect me.”

Zhang Yun let out a dry cough, signaling that there was still a bodyguard driving up front.

”What are you afraid of! Even my dad approves of you.” Ouyang Mingruo then called out to the front seat, ”You can’t see anything, and you can’t hear anything. Do you hear me?!”

Zhang Yun smiled and shook his head. Given her current emotional state, he decided not to bicker with her.

”Did you hear me?!” Seeing that the bodyguard actually ignored her, Mingruo raised her voice.

Zhang Yun patted her shoulder. ”He’s just a tool—a driver focused entirely on driving. He can’t see anything, and he can’t hear anything. Since he didn’t hear you, how could he answer you?”

The driver nodded furiously in the front. Exactly! Who knew if she was baiting him? If he answered, wouldn’t that just prove he was still eavesdropping?

”Kiss me!” Mingruo said boldly. Everything that had happened tonight made her want to go completely crazy and let loose.

Zhang Yun was speechless. He didn’t want to be spectated by a stranger.

”I don’t understand English...”

”Kiss me!”

”Oh! There are indeed a lot of things I need to ask you! What year were you born anyway? How many years older than me are you? When is your birthday? Did you go to a prestigious university abroad? What’s your favorite food? Do you have cats or dogs at home? Are you...”

”I’m asleep!”

Ouyang Mingruo rolled her eyes hard. He was too much! There was no need to change the subject like that. Was he doing a background check? Was he a walking encyclopedia of questions?

Zhang Yun knew she was feeling depressed. He couldn’t really kiss her in the car, so he kept talking to divert her attention. ”You’re not asleep yet. I’ll tell you a story to coax you to sleep.”

”Okay!” Ouyang Mingruo immediately agreed and closed her eyes.

”Once upon a time, there was a eunuch...” Zhang Yun paused for a moment, prompting her, ”This is the part where I stop talking, and you ask: ’What’s the rest of the tale?’ And then I answer: ’A eunuch has no tail...’ HAHAHA!”

Ouyang Mingruo let out a PFFT of laughter. ”I’m laughing! But not because it’s funny. I’m forcing an awkward laugh because you’re telling a joke older than my dad!”

Zhang Yun chuckled inwardly. An awkward laugh was still a laugh. As long as she was smiling, it was fine.

”Really? Have you heard the one about ’If you catch me, I’ll let you hehehe’?”

”What on earth is that?”

”Never mind, I won’t tell jokes. I’ll tell you about a personal experience of mine!” A dirty joke was better saved for when it was just the two of them. Zhang Yun turned serious. ”One time, I had a really bad cold. I went to our local clinic... you know, a community hospital. The doctor prescribed an IV drip for me, saying I would recover faster.

”When I went over to get the IV, I saw another patient already hooked up to a drip. This guy was really weird. He kept staring at the IV bag, laughing ’HAHAHAHA’ non-stop.

”I was a bit scared at the time, so I asked the nurse if the fever had fried his brain. She said no, he’s just easily amused by every little *drip* of humor.”

Ouyang Mingruo deliberately tilted her head up. ”I’m giving you a look. Interpret it yourself!”

Right at that moment, the driver slammed on the brakes!

Zhang Yun instantly became alert. Again? Did Ouyang Qilin have another ambush waiting at the bottom of the mountain?
