The Fantastic Little Farmer

Chapter 135: Chapter 135: What You Call a Lone Hero

”He stoked the fire to make you and Ouyang Chunqiu fight amongst yourselves. Killing you wasn’t the goal; it was for others to see, to make the family and everyone else think Ouyang Chunqiu killed you, and Ouyang Kunpeng protected him!

”That’s why he only injured you in a car crash instead of arranging for someone to finish the job. The orders to kill you last night and today were just to force you to make a decision!

”You’ve already declared war. Everyone in the family knows, and outsiders are watching the show. Whether you die or not is meaningless now.

”Your dad wouldn’t be completely oblivious to his actions. He just didn’t tell you, or if he did, you didn’t believe him. He would also counterattack tonight, like bringing you back home.

”At this point, taking control of you gives him a trump card to advance or retreat. He can threaten your father and use you as a hostage in case he fails!”

Zhang Yun estimated that even if there were other reasons, this was roughly the gist of it. He rushed to speak, not to stop Ouyang Qilin from acting tough, but because he wanted Ouyang Mingruo to calm down! If Ouyang Qilin were the one to say these things, it would only agitate Mingruo further. If she lost control, an accident could happen.

”Ouyang Qilin! I know why you explained so patiently!” Zhang Yun continued to expose him. ”It’s not because you have a good temper, nor is it because you can’t bear to kill Mingruo. It’s because you’ve been holding it in for too long!

”You’ve been planning this for so long, always having to put up a front and unable to tell anyone except these low-level thugs. You’d be very disappointed if the people involved didn’t find out!”

Ouyang Qilin hadn’t interrupted his narrative earlier, tacitly agreeing with his words.

”You’re like the villain boss in a detective movie, plotting for a whole episode just to enjoy the final moment of revelation, making everyone shocked by your methods while unable to escape your schemes.

”But don’t forget, evil can never prevail over good! No matter how cunning the villain is, no matter how meticulous the boss is, they will eventually be defeated by the protagonist! Moreover... villains often die from talking too much! Hahahahaha!”

”Childish!” Ouyang Qilin couldn’t help but sneer. ”You think you’re smart? This truly smart person beside you has been played for a fool for years!”

”I’m not smart, but I’m cautious. Look, this bastard slipped us sleeping pills, yet I didn’t fall asleep. This proves I noticed it early on and deduced your conspiracy. So, do you think I sent my location to Ouyang Kunpeng or not?”

”...”

”Mingruo’s relationship with her father was provoked by you for years, so she might not be able to put her pride aside. But Ouyang Kunpeng and I have no grudges, and he even made a big show of giving me a million in cash. Not only did I send out our location, but I’ve also been on the phone with him this whole time, live-streaming the situation here!”

Zhang Yun smiled. Although he couldn’t see Ouyang Qilin inside the house, he could feel that the man must be surprised.

Ouyang Mingruo had been affected by the emotions of competing with an illegitimate son for her father’s love and blinded by the hatred guided by Ouyang Qilin. However, the stronger her feelings were before, the more guilty she felt after learning the truth! During Zhang Yun’s revelation just now, she forced herself to calm down. She no longer hysterically complained, nor did she force Ouyang Qilin to come out and confront them.

She vaguely guessed that Zhang Yun did this for a reason, which included handing his phone to her. Thus, standing behind Zhang Yun, she seamlessly found her father’s contact and started a muted voice call. She didn’t know her father’s current situation or if he would rush over, but just as Zhang Yun said, she had live-streamed the situation here. It just hadn’t been for long—only for this recent segment.

”Hahahaha! So what?” Ouyang Qilin laughed loudly. ”Ouyang Chunqiu, the vicious illegitimate son, assassinated the eldest legitimate daughter in order to openly rise to power! Ouyang Kunpeng protected the illegitimate son and covered up all the blackmail material Ouyang Mingruo released...

”Tsk, tsk, tsk! Do you think he has any reputation left? Let alone live-streaming over the phone, even if you recorded audio and video, could you record anything of me?

”If this really gets out, it will just show that Ouyang Kunpeng is insane! In order to protect his illegitimate son, he didn’t hesitate to frame his own brother, adding to his crimes! I’ll just wait to take over!”

While Zhang Yun was speaking, he also observed the entire building from the corner of his eye. He had a good idea of where they could break through and where ambushes might be laid.

Just as he was about to spout a few more lines, he heard a furious roar from Ouyang Qilin!

”Fire!”

Ouyang Mingruo had value as a hostage, but Zhang Yun certainly did not; Ouyang Qilin would only want him eliminated!

Therefore, upon hearing this, Zhang Yun immediately pushed Uncle Zhong forward, grabbed Ouyang Mingruo, and quickly retreated while simultaneously firing at a window! A bullet had indeed been fired from an unlit window! Zhang Yun ran fast, but the unconscious Uncle Zhong wasn’t so lucky. He woke up abruptly from the pain, only to be shot dead before he could even finish a scream...

Hearing the gunshots, the dozen or so people at the door had no mind to distinguish which direction Zhang Yun was firing. They all hurriedly rushed into the house! In a mere moment, Zhang Yun retreated behind those cars with Ouyang Mingruo in his arms.

With cover and distance, they instantly regained the initiative. If the gunmen inside didn’t rush out, it would be difficult for them to launch an attack. However, if they rushed out, they would be shot dead by Zhang Yun first—unless they had sniper rifles! As for those holding iron bars, they were no longer a threat. As long as Zhang Yun had bullets left, none of them would dare charge forward.

”You saved me again...” Ouyang Mingruo said softly.

Zhang Yun turned and gazed at her. This was too atmospheric! A gunfight! A beauty! Wasn’t this the standard setup for a Hollywood movie? What defines a lone hero? What embodies a tough guy’s tender affection? According to movie tropes, he should just reply with a kiss while saying this. However, that usually happened after the problem was solved, and they were still in danger right now.

”What’s wrong?” Ouyang Mingruo grew nervous under his gaze.

Zhang Yun snapped back to reality. ”The car we came in is unlocked. I’ll cover you while you get in, and we’ll leave here first.”

”Okay!” Now rational again, Ouyang Mingruo didn’t waste words and immediately hunched over and dashed towards it.

Zhang Yun just aimed, not wasting any bullets.

”Get in!” Ouyang Mingruo started the car, turned it around, and stopped right beside him.

Just as Zhang Yun was running over, a bullet flew past and hit the hood of an adjacent car. The effective range of a handgun was only about fifty meters; beyond that, precision couldn’t be guaranteed. In reality, most gunfights happened within a dozen meters. Hitting a moving target beyond that distance was extremely difficult.

Zhang Yun wasn’t sure if the shot was aimed at Ouyang Mingruo or him, but with this unsafe factor present, he didn’t dare be careless. Inaccuracy didn’t mean they wouldn’t hit anything; they might aim at him and hit Ouyang Mingruo, or they could score a lucky hit by firing blindly.

He immediately rushed over, but didn’t get into the car. ”Trust me! Drive out first and wait for me on the road outside! Remember, trust me!”

”You... okay!”

Ouyang Mingruo gritted her teeth and still followed his arrangement to avoid dragging him down.

The moment she started the car and rushed out, Zhang Yun fired a shot and hit the gas tank of a nearby car! He instantly entered the Peach Blossom Spring Space.

The sudden explosion behind her made Ouyang Mingruo instinctively want to slam on the brakes, but she managed to suppress it with all her might. She trusted him!
