Daily Intelligence System: Don't Kill Me, Honey!

The land is the bottom line. As long as the bottom line is maintained, then the problem isn’t too big. During this era, the people’s demands aren’t high; as long as they can have food, it’s considered a time of peace and prosperity.

But Chen Jie provided them with more; not only did he ensure they had food, but he also made sure they ate well.

This is the reason why Chen Jie’s Huangzhou Prefecture is prosperous.

In this world, while other warlords and the court began merging the land, Chen Jie directly established a bottom line for the people, which is that the land of Huangzhou Prefecture belongs to the nation and is the asset of the common people. Whoever touches it, dies.

This iron rule has been personally verified by Chen Jie, regardless of whether they are part of the Imperial Family or meritorious military generals, those who dare to move the land will die!

It is precisely because of this iron rule that the entire land of Huangzhou Prefecture ensures that the common people can have enough to eat. On the basis of having enough to eat, Chen Jie encourages the people to raise chickens, ducks, pigs, and fish, and to develop animal husbandry.

He also encourages families in rural areas with special skills to come out and find work. For example, those skilled in masonry can join the government-operated construction teams and start urban redevelopment.

This is Chen Jie’s urban construction project that replanned and rebuilt some of the dirty and disorderly areas in the original Huangzhou Prefecture, constructing all of them into two-story small buildings and using these buildings as a foundation to start the largest commercial sector in Huangzhou Prefecture.

Furthermore, Chen Jie established a Huangzhou Prefecture People’s Square in the center of the commercial sector and built the largest department store in Huangzhou Prefecture on the square.

This building was designed by the best architect in Huangzhou Prefecture, whom Chen Jie sought out with care. It is said that this architect’s ancestors designed the Imperial Palace for the Great Song Royal Family, so he had real skill. After completing the design for this first department store in Huangzhou Prefecture, Chen Jie directly sent him to Huangzhou Prefecture University Hall to serve as a professor and opened a separate architectural specialty for him.

At that time, this former designer of the Great Song Royal Family was thrilled because, after all, only Confucian scholars could engage in activities like authoring and creating schools before. He never expected that as a craftsman, he could also author and create schools and become a University Hall professor.

When he arrived at Huangzhou University, he realized how prestigious the school was. Not only could he teach architecture, but also blacksmiths, carpenters, and doctors could offer courses there. It can be said that as long as you have skills far beyond others, you can come, and the treatment was said to be the same as those deputy commanders in the army.

This made craftsmen who made a living by their skills feel nervous; how could they dare to compare themselves to officials?

But later, they discovered that the army officials were very polite to them. They even saw Chen Xiaohu, the number two figure in the Huangzhou Prefecture Army, Vice Commander of the Three Armies, Commander of the White Tiger Army, and cousin of the lord of Huangzhou Prefecture, Chen Jiusi. After seeing them, he politely said: Sir, thank you for your hard work!

This was the number two figure in the military. Who wouldn’t be polite in Huangzhou Prefecture? But when they looked at him, he was polite, thus strengthening their sense of belonging to Huangzhou Prefecture.

All of this was Chen Jie’s talent reserve, so let’s get back to it.

After Chen Jie’s modification, the entire Huangzhou Prefecture transformed what was once the poorest South City into the most prosperous place in Huangzhou Prefecture.

In the entire South City, Chen Jie built nearly five thousand two-story small buildings, erasing all the old and dilapidated places, and then relocated the local people, giving them houses in other areas according to a certain ratio.

South City turned completely into a commercial city, and almost all the businessmen in the south who received the news rushed to Huangzhou Prefecture wanting to buy a shop.

For a time, these shops were in great demand, and the best location, like beside People’s Square, where the department store building is, saw shops on the five pedestrian streets with the highest being able to sell for the astronomical price of fifty thousand taels.

Of course, the rent for these houses could also reach nearly ten thousand taels, and you can basically recoup your investment in five or six years.

Of course, the best location is still the first landmark building of Huangzhou Prefecture, the first department store in Huangzhou Prefecture.

The building occupies 100,000 square meters and is five stories high, including an underground floor. The entire structure uses reinforced concrete, and this should be the first reinforced concrete building in Huangzhou Prefecture.

To this end, Chen Jie specially approved military-grade cement and had the Huangzhou Prefecture steel factory produce the first batch of steel bars.

Of course, the quality of these steel bars cannot compare to those in later generations, thus greatly limiting the size of the entire mall. You have to know that later Wanda Plazas are large buildings with hundreds of thousands of square meters, while Chen Jie’s department store is only a fraction of the size of a Wanda Plaza.

However, in this world, it is already an extraordinary building. After all, such a large building, four stories high, is something this era has never seen, and some even call it the tallest building in Huangzhou Prefecture.

As a result, this tall building immediately attracted the attention of the entire Huangzhou Prefecture, even Hubei Road, and many surrounding places.

Just when everyone thought it would become Chen Jie’s office, unexpectedly, Chen Jie directly declared he would rent out the stalls in this building.

This surprised the people, wondering how these stalls could be rented out. Chen Jie directly stated that the top layer, the Fourth Layer, was for restaurants, and all restaurant merchants in Huangzhou Prefecture could come to lease a space.

From this building, through the glass windows designed by Chen Jie, you can directly see the entire scene of Huangzhou Prefecture, with a grandiose feeling of standing atop a height and viewing all the mountains as small, making it the top choice for dignitaries and wealthy merchants.
