Daily Intelligence System: Don't Kill Me, Honey!

Chen Jie looked at the gaze Zhao Ya cast at him and returned it with a reassuring smile. He would not end up fighting Ruyang King, but if Ruyang King insisted on making things difficult for him and damaged his interests, he would absolutely not agree.

Therefore, Chen Jie calmly looked at Ruyang King and said, ”Please go ahead, Prince.”

Ruyang King looked at Chen Jie and said, ”Chen Jiusi, I know you are a person of great skill and talent. Now, as the land of Daqian is in turmoil, the Emperor wishes to recruit young talents, and you barely meet the qualifications.”

”With my slight influence added, the Emperor said that as long as you sincerely pledge allegiance to the court, he will not hesitate to reward you generously. It wouldn’t be difficult for you to be conferred titles and command armies in the future. Do you understand?”

Upon hearing Ruyang King’s words, Chen Jie replied, ”Your meaning is that the Emperor wishes to issue an edict granting me pardon?”

Seeing Chen Jie like this, Ruyang King said, ”Exactly, considering my influence, the Emperor is willing to grant you pardon. Are you not thankful yet?”

Chen Jie paused upon hearing this, then promptly spoke, ”Prince, are you certain you’re not joking with me?”

”What joke would I make with you?”

Ruyang King began speaking, and upon hearing this, Chen Jie again said, ”Prince, if you’re not joking with me, then are you setting a trap for me?”

”What trap am I setting for you?”

Ruyang King smiled in irritation, and Chen Jie said, ”Prince, neither are you setting a trap nor are you joking with me. How can you speak of my allegiance to the court?”

”What, have you become addicted to becoming a rebel?”

Ruyang King shouted angrily.

Chen Jie immediately said, ”It’s not a matter of being a rebel or not. Isn’t it just obvious that you’re forcing me onto a dead-end? If you’re unwilling to marry off your daughter, just say so, but you can’t make things difficult for people this way.”

”How am I making things difficult for you?”

Ruyang King heard Chen Jie’s words and felt displeased, directly asking in what way he had made things difficult for Chen Jie.

Upon hearing this, Chen Jie looked at him and said, ”Prince, the Commandery Princess once had aspirations to be the Empress. Now, I’ve stolen the Emperor’s woman; how could the Emperor not seek revenge? Just after pledging allegiance, he could have me shredded to pieces. Please don’t deceive me, Prince. I did save you once, but even if you don’t repay the favor, you shouldn’t push me onto a dead-end!”

Chen Jie spoke to Ruyang King, and upon hearing his words, Zhao Ya urgently said, ”Father, you mustn’t!”

Ruyang King, hearing this, raised his hand and said, ”Alright, your concerns are understood. The Emperor said regarding Yaya, he won’t pursue the matter.”

”You can pledge allegiance with peace of mind.”

Ruyang King spoke to Chen Jie. Upon hearing this, Chen Jie said, ”That’s great, but Prince, I still have one unclear matter.”

Ruyang King said, ”What matter?”

Chen Jie said, ”The Emperor forgave me regarding Yaya. Suppose the Emperor doesn’t mind his wife being taken, but not long ago I led Zoroastrian Sect forces to seize the Imperial Palace, forcing him into Ancestor Tower—had he been any slower, he might’ve lost his life.”

”Can the Emperor pardon that crime?”

Chen Jie spoke to Ruyang King, who, after hearing this, said, ”That, that can be pardoned as well.”

Upon hearing this, Chen Jie immediately shouted, ”The imperial grace is vast!”

”Prince, have you thought this through? The Emperor, wishing to pardon my vendetta for stealing his wife and forgive my hatred for endangering his life. If he achieves all that, I would have to call him the greatest Holy Monarch of all time!”

”Prince, do you believe His Majesty the Emperor is the greatest Holy Monarch of all time? Or do you think His Majesty the Emperor can truly endure such a huge vendetta? If the Emperor can bear all of this, then I’m willing to risk everything and pledge allegiance to him. Prince, do you think he’ll manage?”
