Daily Intelligence System: Don't Kill Me, Honey!

”Welcome the Lord Prime Minister into the city!”

Outside Great Capital City, Zhang Tong respectfully invited Hama to enter the city. At this moment, Hama stood at the city gate, looking at the half-kneeling Hama, with a hint of nostalgia on his face, as if he had returned from another world. Finally, I, the old man, have finally returned!

Hama thought this; he had indeed been through quite a fright along this journey.

He initially thought it was a simple ancestral rite, who would have thought that behind it lay a shocking conspiracy, and unfortunately, he became a victim of this grand scheme!

First, a sudden raid killed all his accompanying guards, then he and his party were taken to the dilapidated Taoist temple, where unexpectedly, the Demon Slayer Monk appeared, intending to kill him.

As Hama thought of this, he trembled all over. He could still recall the power of that punch from the Demon Slayer Monk. If that punch had actually landed on his head, it would surely have shattered into pieces by now.

Luckily, Chen Jiusi saved him; otherwise, how could he have returned to the Great Capital?

And now, having finally returned to the Great Capital, things would not be so simple now.

Tuotuo, await my counterattack. If I don’t make you pay a terrible price today, I, Hama, might as well have lived in vain!

Understanding this, Hama glanced once again at the city gate and then said to Zhang Tong, ”Zhang Tong, you’ve done well, wise men adapt to circumstances. This time, if Tuotuo falls, you may seek me out at my residence, and I shall grant you a promising future.”

Upon hearing this, Zhang Tong immediately replied, ”Yes, thank you for your favor, Lord Prime Minister.”

Hama then entered the sedan chair, gently tapped his foot three times inside, and the bearers immediately lifted it, and Wang Baobao shouted, ”Enter the city!”

Bong!

The sound of the gong echoed, and the entire procession entered the city.

As Zhang Tong watched the procession enter the city, a confidant behind him said, ”My lord, should we just let him enter the city like this? How will we explain it to the Lord Prime Minister?”

Upon hearing this, Zhang Tong replied, ”How to explain? How else? If the Lord Prime Minister does not fall this time, we must be prepared to flee for our lives.”

The confidant was stunned and asked, ”Then why did you let Hama go?”

Zhang Tong said, ”If I let him go, I might die, but if I don’t, I am certain to die.”

After saying this, Zhang Tong didn’t want to explain further. Then he looked at the messengers sent by Tuotuo and said, ”You may report back to the Lord Prime Minister!”

Upon hearing this, the messengers looked at Zhang Tong and said, ”My lord, your actions will disappoint the Lord Prime Minister.”

Zhang Tong replied, ”You may report back to the lord and say that I, Zhang Tong, am unworthy of his grace. However, as a Third-Grade General of the court, I cannot kill an official of Daqian, and I beg for Lord Prime Minister’s forgiveness!”

After Zhang Tong said this, the messenger immediately nodded and said, ”Then, I shall convey as my lord instructed.”

Zhang Tong said, ”Go.”

Zhang Tong realized that by not killing Hama, as long as he gambled on Hama winning in the end, he could not only keep his current position intact but possibly even advance further.

Of course, there was a possibility of gambling wrong, and the result of such a gamble was wandering the world. At worst, he could retreat to the Jianghu, or even join the Red Turban Army. Someday, he might attain a noble title, which wouldn’t be too tragic.

But what if he chose to kill Hama?

Then matters would escalate significantly, for he would be committing the murder of the court’s Prime Minister with treasonous intent. According to Daqian’s law, he would undoubtedly be sentenced to death, and he might even be pursued by Melt God Realm experts.

Such a fate was certain death.

Moreover, as Wang Baobao noted, if he killed Hama and the court inquired, would his master, Tuotuo, bear the blame for him?

Asking himself honestly, if he were Tuotuo, he would certainly not bear the blame for a subordinate military officer. If the court sought responsibility, if he were Tuotuo, he would just hand him over and let the court deal with it to protect himself.

Of course, if Tuotuo were particularly conscientious, perhaps he might plead for him.

But could he gamble on Tuotuo’s kindness? Or could a person capable of becoming Prime Minister be so benevolent?

So Zhang Tong decided not to do it. Why should a mere Deputy Commander risk accusations of assassinating the court’s Prime Minister and the execution of his clan to eliminate obstacles for Tuotuo?

Understanding these things, Zhang Tong displayed his behavior at the city gate.

And his actions were quickly conveyed to Tuotuo by the messengers.

Tuotuo was drinking tea at this moment, but his eyes wandered, showing obvious absent-mindedness. Seeing him like this, a Deputy General advised, ”Prime Minister, don’t worry. Zhang Tong is reliable in his actions; there won’t be a problem.”

Tuotuo sighed at these words and said, ”The heart is inscrutable. The risk in this matter is too great. If he turns traitor midway, that would be disastrous.”

The Deputy General asked, ”Do you want me to check on it?”

Tuotuo replied, ”It’s too late now. Let’s wait. I hope I’m overthinking, but for some reason, my heart feels very uneasy.”

The Deputy General said, ”You’re overthinking it, my lord. Zhang Tong...”

”Prime Minister, it’s bad news, bad news!”

The Deputy General’s comforting words were interrupted as the messengers ran over, breathless. Seeing them in this state, Tuotuo frowned and asked, ”What’s happening?”

The messengers immediately reported, ”Zhang Tong, Zhang Tong has betrayed!”

What!

Tuotuo’s eyes nearly popped out, ”What did you say?”
