Chapter 560: Chapter 317: I Don’t Want the Big Fish, I Just Want You

However, this trip to the Hoenn Region, Naoki ultimately could not go.

Because just as he hurriedly arrived at the ranch, Dragonite returned covered in wounds.

Seeing this scene, Naoki was stunned for a moment, then immediately rushed forward to check Dragonite’s injuries.

Dragonite’s scales were damaged, and there were red marks on its belly from intense impacts, looking very battered and spiritless.

”Why did you go so far away?” Naoki, feeling a bit distressed, quickly called his brother Indeedee to fetch a bottle of Life Sheep Milk for Dragonite to drink.

After drinking the milk, Dragonite finally recovered, but remained dispirited.

It drooped its head and glanced at Naoki, feeling very saddened in its heart.

It failed to catch a fish bigger than a tuna to give to Naoki and lost to that big Fish-type Pokemon, only to return sheepishly to the ranch.

”Blargh...”

Dragonite felt like it had lost face before Naoki.

”Forget it, I’m just glad you’re back regardless.” Naoki sighed and reached out to pat Dragonite’s head, apologizing, ”Sorry, I neglected your feelings, I won’t do that again.”

Upon hearing this, a spark of light flickered in Dragonite’s forlorn eyes, but it quickly drooped its head sadly once more.

Naoki led it into the living room to Calyrex’s side, asking Him to help with translating.

”Tell me, why did you suddenly run away from home?” Naoki asked sternly.

Running away from home? Dragonite was baffled; it hadn’t run away!

”Blargh, blargh!”

So next, with Calyrex’s translation, Naoki finally understood the whole story.

As it turns out, Dragonite didn’t run away but intended to venture into the ocean to catch a bigger fish for him.

But when it wandered around the sea near Paldea, it didn’t encounter a fish bigger than itself.

So it flew elsewhere, and after a long search and inquiring with local Pokemon, it finally found a large Fish-type Pokemon.

Naoki: ”...”

This peculiar spirit of competition and desire for victory.

Upon hearing this, Naoki immediately grasped how Dragonite got involved with Kyogre.

Dragonite: ”Blargh, blargh...” (That Pokemon dwells deep, deep underwater...)

It recounted the scene to Naoki in detail.

At that time, it had barged into the Pokemon’s abode, awakening the sleeping figure.

In the mysterious and quiet underwater cavern, that Pokemon gazed at it with golden eyes, its voice as profound as the sea:

”Intruder, what brings you here?”

Dragonite was stunned by the majestic aura emitted by the opponent, and stammeringly explained its purpose:

”Blargh...” (I’m searching for the biggest fish in the world to give to Naoki...)

The biggest fish? Absurd! It was the embodiment of the sea!

Kyogre was a bit angry, and as for the mentioned Naoki... he sounded like a human name.

A weak Dragonite intended to send it to a human?

The Sea God was infuriated, and the surrounding sea waters seemed to boil, stirring up monstrous waves instantly.

Dragonite realized the danger, its scales bristling, quickly summoning its energy to prepare a defense.

Strands of white airflow surged around it, and suddenly a gust tore through the dense cavern.

Just when Dragonite thought the opponent was about to lose control and attack, the mysterious Pokemon suddenly paused.

Kyogre gazed at the Dragonite confusedly because it sensed a sea-origin vibe emanating from Dragonite.

This vibe made Kyogre gradually calm down.

It wasn’t out of fear; it just suddenly recalled its arch-nemesis.

Currently, the earth and ocean barely maintained balance.

If its power were slightly diminished, its nemesis would likely seize the opportunity to struggle for natural energy in the world, expanding its territory.

It didn’t wish to see Groudon standing on Mt. Pyre setting off fireworks.

Hence, the calming Kyogre returned to the lake, addressing the overreaching Dragonite:

”Defeat me, and you shall earn my approval.”

Then, Dragonite challenged Kyogre.

Kyogre didn’t use its own energy and moves; it merely harnessed the Water Power hidden in the surrounding sea to effortlessly defeat Dragonite.

The defeated Dragonite fell into the ocean, while Kyogre returned to the underwater cavern, resuming its sleep, awaiting the opportune moment.

The struggle between earth and ocean will never cease, whether decades, centuries, or much further into the future.

Someday, the conflict between Kyogre and Groudon will reignite.

Naoki: ”...”

It seems he misunderstood Kyogre; it wasn’t Kyogre who attacked Dragonite, rather Dragonite provoked Kyogre.

It’s just unclear why the enraged Kyogre didn’t intentionally harm Dragonite, instead offering a challenge for acknowledgment.

Naoki pondered over the relationships of those Legendary Pokemon in the Hoenn Region, quickly finding the answer.

— Because of Groudon.

Naoki sighed and told Dragonite, ”We’ll let it go this time, but never attempt such dangerous things again, understand?”

Dragonite was very saddened: ”Blargh...”
