Not Being a Trainer This Time

Chapter 558: Chapter 316: Dragonite and the Embodiment of the Sea! (Part 2)

On the lake’s surface, a large, whale-like mysterious Pokémon was quietly sleeping.

Its body was a deep blue, like the vast ocean, exuding a majestic and boundless aura.

It had two huge pectoral fins, each fin tipped with four white square structures, its body covered with mysterious and ancient red patterns.

”Argh...” (That’s a big fish...)

Dragonite murmured to itself.

This Fish-type Pokémon’s size far exceeded that of the tuna there and was clearly favored by Naoki!

Dragonite’s heart was restless.

Yet at that moment, the Pokémon, which had been sleeping with closed eyes, suddenly opened them as if sensing something.

An ancient oceanic aura surged around it.

Golden, intimidating pupils locked onto Dragonite, the intruder.

Sensing that aura, Dragonite’s face changed slightly, its body froze, instantly realizing this was a powerful Pokémon!

In the next moment, an ancient, heavy voice echoed in its heart:

”Intruder, what is your purpose here?”

*

Paldea Region, Porto Marinada Town, Naoki Ranch.

Naoki worriedly looked in the direction where Dragonite flew off.

Two days had passed.

It’s been two days since Dragonite left, and it still hasn’t returned...

The Pokedex says Dragonite can circumnavigate the Earth in just 16 hours, but 48 hours have passed.

This time was enough for Dragonite to circle the globe three times.

Yet Dragonite still hadn’t returned.

From Naoki’s understanding of Dragonite, his Dragonite clearly wasn’t the type to leave home out of spite and not return.

And now...

Naoki couldn’t help but think: could it be delayed by something?

Or encountered some danger? Like Pokémon Hunters, Team Rocket, or Team Galactic, some evil organizations.

Naoki was restless and lost interest in his upcoming Kitakami journey.

In this situation, even if he wanted to look for Dragonite, he couldn’t.

Because the world is so vast, he had no idea where Dragonite went or where it is now.

Naoki was worried, unable to eat or sleep peacefully, beginning to reflect if he did something wrong.

He went to town specifically to find Miss Joy for advice on what to do if a Pokémon leaves home upset.

Porto Marinada Town’s Miss Joy couldn’t help but ask: ”Did a Pokémon leave home from the ranch?”

Naoki nodded: ”... It’s Dragonite.”

He elaborated to Miss Joy about the day Dragonite at the ranch gave him several fish while working, and he couldn’t resist petting their heads because they were so adorable.

As a result, Dragonite saw this scene and immediately used the move Extreme Speed, leaving home at the speed of light.

”I see...” Miss Joy looked enlightened: ”If I guess correctly, Dragonite probably got jealous seeing you pet other Dragonite and that’s why it left home.”

Seeing Naoki’s worried expression, Miss Joy explained softly:

”Pokémon, like humans, can throw tantrums. Often, when Trainers treat a specific Pokémon excellently, it leads to jealousy among other Pokémon in the team, causing them to leave home.”

Naoki: ”...”

He knew, but what could he do?

The world has so many cute Pokémon; he wants to pet and hug every single one.

”In these situations, Trainers need to pay more attention to the Pokémon’s feelings and try to evenly distribute your affection among all your Pokémon,” Miss Joy said.

Therefore, major Leagues encourage Trainers to travel with six Pokémon, as more than that, a Trainer simply can’t care for them properly.

This leads to Pokémon throwing tantrums, discord in the team, affecting the Trainer’s overall strength.

Listening to Miss Joy’s advice, Naoki for a moment didn’t know how to react.

It felt like Trainers were like philandering individuals...

But he genuinely just loved Pokémon! Not like some philanderer stringing Pokémon along! Playing with their emotions...

The kindly working Dragonite would bring him surprise gifts, always appearing so gentle and obedient; who could resist!

Naoki appeared conflicted.

Miss Joy couldn’t help but console: ”Don’t worry, Dragonite is a very gentle Pokémon; it will surely return to you, Mr. Naoki.”

She had seen Naoki Ranch’s Dragonite, a very cute Pokémon, with a gentle and obedient temperament, often carrying a little red bag flying around town, delivering goods to people.

Quite a few town residents liked it!

”Sigh.” Naoki sighed quietly.

Miss Joy continued: ”Trainers have encountered similar situations before.”

”There was a girl who met a swimming-proficient Piplup on her way home, and after that, they started living together.”

”Later, that girl met several other Pokémon and cared for them just like she cared for Piplup, driving Piplup to jealousy, leading to it leaving home angrily.”

”It swam across the sea from the Sinnoh Region to the Galar Region, and thanks to the assistance of kind Trainers, Piplup eventually returned to the girl’s side, even setting a Guinness World Record, winning an inter-regional swimming championship!”
