Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

Xuelian took out her phone, aimed it at the headmaster of the Magic Academy, and scanned him. The result appeared instantly. When she saw that the headmaster, Zhao Bo, was not only a wanted criminal but a major offender with a bounty of 10,000,000 euros, she said excitedly, ”Brother Zhao Rong, this headmaster isn’t just anybody! He’s a major offender with a ten-million-euro bounty...”

When the assistant standing beside her heard this, he asked, ”Xuelian, are you saying that if we capture him, we can get a ten-million-euro reward?”

Xuelian nodded with certainty. ”That’s right. This guy is really worth ten million euros.”

The thought of ten million euros—a truly massive sum—made the assistant’s eyes light up. ”Xuelian,” he asked, ”does this mean we’re about to strike it rich?”

Xuelian nodded affirmatively. ”Yes.”

At that moment, Yu Lan stepped forward and pulled a large net from her pocket. ”Brother Zhao Rong,” she said, ”how about we use this fishing net to snare this guy?”

As she spoke, she threw the net toward the headmaster. However, to her shock, the net disintegrated and burst into flames the moment it touched his body.

Seeing that the net had failed, Yu Lan picked up a pebble and threw it at the headmaster, but to her astonishment, the pebble turned to dust before it even reached him.

Then, Xuelian joined in. She pulled two cans of pepper spray from her pocket and sprayed them wildly at the headmaster, yelling, ”Take that! Let’s see how you like my pepper spray!”

But to her surprise, the spray had no effect. Instead of irritating his eyes, it seemed to lubricate them like eyedrops.

The headmaster rolled his eyes and laughed maniacally. ”You humans shouldn’t think you can deal with me so easily. After all, I am a magical beast...”

When Zhao Rong heard the headmaster claim to be a magical beast, he retorted, ”Martian Worm, stop posturing. You’re not a magical beast; you’re a monster that cultivated from an insect.”

Exposed by Zhao Rong, the headmaster became enraged. ”So what if I’m a Martian Worm? A Martian Worm that has cultivated into a monster can still kill all five of you!”

When the three women and the assistant heard Zhao Rong say that the man was a monster cultivated from a ”Martian Worm,” they asked curiously, ”Brother Zhao Rong, what kind of insect is a Martian Worm? We’ve never heard of such a thing.”

Lili looked up at the sky and mused, ”Martian Worm... as the name implies, could it be an insect that lives on the planet Mars?”

Zhao Rong shook his head, smirking coldly at the headmaster before telling her, ”Miss Lili, you’re overestimating him. Trash like him who lives in sewers doesn’t deserve to fly to Mars and become an insect, much less return from Mars to harm humanity.”

Struck by a sudden idea, Yu Lan said, ”Brother Zhao Rong, I know! A Martian Worm must be a type of insect that lives inside volcanic craters, in the magma. It must be immune to fire and highly resistant to heat, right?”

Zhao Rong shook his head again. ”Yu Lan, you’re also overestimating this so-called Martian Worm. If it were that heat-resistant and powerful, it wouldn’t be here working for Wang Jingang.”

Xuelian opened her phone to search for information about the Martian Worm. ”Brother Zhao Rong, I found it! In North America, a scientist’s experiment went wrong, and nuclear waste leaked into the sewers. The rats there mutated, creating a new species called the Martian Worm! This guy claims to have come from an insect, but he’s actually a monster mutated from a rat!”

Listening to the hearsay Xuelian had found online, Zhao Rong broke into a cold sweat before finally revealing the truth. ”Miss Lili, Yu Lan, Xuelian, stop guessing. I’ll tell you the origin of the Martian Worm. Although the name ’Martian Worm’ sounds impressive, this creature isn’t from Mars, nor is it heat-resistant, nor is it a monster mutated from nuclear waste. It’s just a firefly that underwent a genetic mutation and then cultivated to become a monster.”

When the three women and the assistant learned that the Martian Worm before them was actually an evolved firefly, they were so astonished they fell to the ground.

Lili found it hilarious. ”Who would have thought? This guy, with his big beard and tough appearance, is actually a tiny cultivated firefly. This is completely blowing my mind...”

Looking out the window at the pitch-black night and the small, mosquito-sized fireflies flitting through the air, Yu Lan was even more incredulous. ”I can’t believe a firefly the size of a mosquito can cultivate into a monster. This world is just too insane!”

Xuelian even caught a gecko from a nearby corner, laughing as she said, ”In nature, the natural predators of fireflies are geckos and bats. I’ll use this gecko to take care of the firefly-turned-monster. It’s bound to work!”

Just then, the headmaster of the Magic Academy began to transform. He revealed sharp fangs and claws, laughing maniacally. ”If you think I’m just a simple, tiny, cute little firefly, you are sorely mistaken! Now, I’ll show you that even among fireflies, there can be freaks of nature!”
