Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1944: Chapter 1847: Even Useless Things Can Serve a Purpose

When Fujiwara Seiho and his group saw the item displayed on the auction stage, their eyes all lit up. The group of five exchanged glances, revealing expressions of ecstasy in each other’s eyes.

Especially after Fujiwara Seiho raised his paddle, there was unexpectedly no one else bidding around them, making the group even more tense and excited.

However, what Fujiwara Seiho’s group never expected was that just when they were certain they could secure the auction item with a bid of half a million, a dark horse suddenly appeared right at the final second of the auctioneer hitting the hammer.

Hearing someone bid eight hundred thousand, Fujiwara Seiho’s heart sank immediately, and he instinctively raised his head to look toward the man who shouted the bid.

The man glanced at Fujiwara Seiho with a playful look in his eyes, his lips curling into a smile like a child playing a prank.

Fujiwara Seiho’s gaze was sharp and probing, sweeping over the man’s face, seemingly trying to discern something from him.

If it were another auction item displayed on stage, Fujiwara Seiho might not have shown such a nervous expression, but because this item was..., it commanded his full attention.

He didn’t know who the young man was, or whether the man was bidding for fun, or if he had seen a unique aspect of the item, so his heart was in his throat, and his expression became grave.

Over there, Zhou Zhen and Lu Huairu exchanged glances, conveying a mutual understanding through their eyes.

The auctioneer was unaware that Li Jun and Fujiwara Seiho had already crossed swords in those brief seconds; he was only responsible for the bidding. Now, seeing unexpectedly someone had raised the bid, and the person holding the numbered paddle was the same one the boss had instructed him to pay attention to before the auction opened, the auctioneer was momentarily stunned.

But the auctioneer, having experienced much, quickly got back his composure after a quick mental turn, saying: ”Mr. 88 has bid eight hundred thousand, is there any other bidder willing to raise the price?”

While asking this question, the auctioneer looked in the direction of Fujiwara Seiho’s group, clearly indicating that in this venue, the only ones interested in this box were Fujiwara’s group.

Fujiwara Seiho slightly furrowed his brow, then raised the numbered paddle again: ”One million!”

Li Jun also furrowed his brow, instinctively looking back at the person sitting in the booth.

In fact, the reason he had just raised the bid to eight hundred thousand was entirely because Huo Sining had urged him to do so.

This woman, possibly in a moment of folly, had become different upon seeing that mysterious item. Although Zhou Shitao and Xie Daoyuan didn’t think highly of the item, Huo Sining stubbornly insisted on securing it, even directly pushing him to the forefront.

That’s why he had intervened by shouting a bid just before the auctioneer struck the hammer.

He had thought that a price of eight hundred thousand was more than enough for a box of golden nanmu and a strange thread-bound book, but Li Jun could never have anticipated that someone was even more fanatical than Huo Sining, raising the bid by twenty thousand more.

One million US dollars, equivalent to about seven or eight million RMB, was an absurd price, not only in Li Jun’s opinion but also to the other experts in the room.

”Huo, there’s nothing special about this thing from what I can see. You couldn’t be making a mistake, could you?”

”One million, that price is already ridiculously high. If you’re interested in this box, you could just as easily find one at a relic market back home; why spend money on this here?”

”Exactly, I can’t see any special origin of this item. It’s probably just artificially aged. That thread-bound book, you can find them anywhere!”

None of the professors could put their finger on what was special about the item, and they didn’t believe Huo Sining could pick up a bargain under Clayflo’s watchful eye in such circumstances.

Yet, Huo Sining remained tense and determined, clearly valuing the item highly as if it were imperative to acquire it.

Not only Huo Sining but Li Jun also noticed that Yue Shuwen’s expression was very peculiar, her gaze firmly fixed on the box as if she recognized it, her eyes brimming red, ready to rush to the stage at any moment.

Huo Sining gestured Li Jun to bid, but at that moment Gu Xu unexpectedly stopped him: ”Wait, let them have it!”

Upon hearing this, Huo Sining paused, her body stiffening, and she turned back instinctively to glare angrily at Gu Xu.

Gu Xu smiled, understanding his wife’s misunderstanding, and quickly explained: ”You forgot, didn’t you? You signed an agreement with Semiya earlier, giving you priority purchasing rights over items, except for the finale piece. You don’t need to bid for this item at all. Since it hasn’t been concluded with Fujiwara Seiho yet, you can directly ask Clayflo for it. Offer the same price, and we can acquire it just the same.”

Only then did Huo Sining suddenly realize this, silently cursing her own miscalculation and couldn’t help but slap her forehead in regret.

The priority purchasing agreement she signed with Semiya was little more than a burden since she couldn’t win those items at auction. But this box was different; she absolutely must have it.

Thus, the priority purchasing agreement became useful, and had she remembered it from the start, she wouldn’t have needed to participate in the bidding at all. This way, Fujiwara Seiho’s initial five hundred thousand bid might have indeed been the final price, and she wouldn’t have had to pay that unnecessary fifty thousand!

Thinking this way, Huo Sining felt stifled and gave a depressed glance at Li Jun, waving her hand at him powerlessly.

Li Jun looked completely innocent and aggrieved. This wasn’t his fault; it was Huo Sining who wanted him to bid, and he was completely pushed forward by her. He certainly couldn’t take the blame for it!

”Three-five-four bid one million; is there any gentleman or lady wanting to raise the bid?”

”If not, the bidding for this final item will be closed.”

”One million going once, one million going twice, one million going three times!”

The auctioneer struck the wooden hammer, announcing the final ownership of the auction item, and over there, Fujiwara Seiho and his group, who had been on edge, finally sighed in relief.

Fujiwara Seiho instinctively cast another glance at the VIP booth where Li Jun was located, his gaze slightly darkening.

Beside him, Lu Huai seemed to understand Fujiwara Seiho’s thoughts and advised:

”There’s nothing strange about this. In such a setting, if no one is bidding, then there’s a problem. The auction side certainly wouldn’t just let us walk away with it so smoothly. Getting someone to raise the price once is entirely within the auction side’s usual practice. It’s an unwritten rule in the circle, so there’s no need to be so tense.”
