Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1936: Chapter 1839: Something Strange

After Huo Sining uncovered this secret, she once suspected whether Yin Yizhai’s behind-the-scenes boss, Yin Zeyan, who had the Yin and Yang face, also knew about this secret and was secretly investigating the matter of the Jiaoren. Therefore, she deliberately kept her distance from Yin Zeyan and was particularly wary of Yin Yizhai, even when Su Qingqing invited her to Antique Street.

However, not long after, Huo Sining discovered that Yin Zeyan seemed unaware, and perhaps Lu Huairu had hidden it too well, as no one knew that the old man was originally a Taoist.

Though Huo Sining had subtly asked Su Qingqing about Lu Huairu, like if he had children or what his family’s situation was, Su Qingqing had truthfully informed her.

But not even Su Qingqing or Yin Zeyan considered it strange for Lu Huairu to be unmarried and childless, never thinking of him as a Taoist practitioner.

Su Qingqing even marveled at the old man’s good health, having never seen him sick from childhood, and inadvertently mentioned something strange about him, saying Lu Huairu never seemed to have aged since she could remember, unchanged over twenty years.

Despite how odd it was, none of them considered it beyond Lu Huairu having an uncommon constitution, attributed to frequent interactions with antiques leading to differences in temperament and physical abilities, sparing deeper thought.

Huo Sining was truly worried about Su Qingqing and Yin Zeyan’s somewhat oblivious nature, but after reconsidering, she felt her criticism might have been misplaced.

After all, Lu Huairu was always diligently working for Yin Zeyan in Yin Yizhai, never slackening; whether his approach to Su Qingqing was premeditated or a coincidence, the old man indeed treated Su Qingqing well, without withholding any expertise or techniques in antique appraisal.

Lu Huairu had ulterior motives, but they were limited to the Jiaoren like her; he never meant harm for his companions.

Nevertheless, Huo Sining remained wary of the old man; during that temple spying, she involuntarily confused him with the oppressive old Taoist from her dreams, both giving her a bad feeling, as if they could harm her at any moment.

At least, for some unknown reason, despite Huo Sining’s long-standing vigilance, Lu Huairu had not re-entered her life, even when Su Qingqing sometimes went alone to Yin Yizhai and couldn’t find Lu Huairu there.

While guarding against Lu Huairu, Huo Sining knew she couldn’t let such an odd old man interfere with her life. She suppressed her suspicions without delving for definite answers, not expecting to encounter him again under such circumstances.

Next to Huo Sining stood Su Qingqing, who, following her gaze, first noticed Zhou Zhen, furrowing her brows and muttering, ”Persistent ghost, why does this scum appear everywhere?”

As soon as she finished speaking, she noticed Lu Huairu beside Zhou Zhen, and seeing them chatting pleasantly surprised and puzzled her:

”Why is Grandfather Lu here? It’s strange, he never traveled afar, never even left Magic Capital, yet he’s in America with that scumbag Zhou Zhen? When did they meet? I need to call Senior Brother Yin to ask what’s going on.”

Originally, Su Qingqing thought Lu Huairu might have been sent by Yin Zeyan to attend the auction, possibly eyeing some antique at the black market auction for Ho Zeyan’s antique shop.

Yet upon reasoning, she felt it didn’t make sense.

Considering Lu Huairu’s age and lack of foreign travel, it was unlikely for Yin Zeyan to send him abroad so carelessly. And with the close relationship between Yin Zeyan and Zhou Yan, who couldn’t stand Zhou Zhen, Yin would unlikely allow such contacts.

Moreover, seeing Lu Huairu and Zhou Zhen talking amiably, their demeanor didn’t suggest a short acquaintance.

Additionally, Su Qingqing recalled this black market auction was held by JK, with Clayflo, Adrian, and Windsor Reed all mentioning only people of status could participate, excluding ordinary individuals.

Given Yin Zeyan’s status, not to mention attending this auction, he possibly hadn’t even heard of it, let alone taken an interest in an item from this black market.

So, Lu Huairu’s presence here wasn’t likely his Senior Brother’s doing.

Thinking this far, Su Qingqing couldn’t help but ponder aloud, taking out her phone to call Yin Zeyan back home.

Before she could dial, Xie Daoyuan overheard her mention Lu Huairu, stood and looked down below.

With just a glance, Xie Daoyuan frowned and said to Su Qingqing:

”That old man with the surname Lu is the manager at Zeyan’s antique shop, right? I saw him once when visiting Zeyan’s shop, reading a Dan Book, with a box of cinnabar drawing strange talisman papers.”

”Although I didn’t dwell on it then, reflecting on it later made it feel off. There’s something peculiar about him. I heard from Zeyan that you have quite a good relationship with him, you should be careful and not get too close. Such people aren’t as simple as they seem.”

Listening to Xie Daoyuan, Su Qingqing found his words vague, felt puzzled and at a loss, laughed and said:

”Master, I think you’re overthinking it. Grandfather Lu’s just an old manager; he’s been very good to me since I was young, teaching me a lot about antique appraisal. He’s not as scary as you say.”

”Plus, reading Dan Books isn’t strange, maybe he just found something amusing and was experimenting with talisman papers. No big deal, right?”

Xie Daoyuan, seeing Su Qingqing’s indifference, realizing she wasn’t listening, showed a flash of concern in his eyes:

”Perhaps it’s my bias, but those studying Taoist arts often have odd obsessions. Just be cautious.”
