Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1912: Chapter 1815: An Unfavorable Start

However, Alden, having once consecutively held multiple WGC championships, was a veteran Gambling King with a psychological resilience far superior to the average person.

Even though he didn’t remember the cards, Alden was only frustrated for a few brief seconds before he quickly adjusted his emotions.

Even without knowing the position of a single card, Alden still believed that with his gambling skills, dealing with the woman in front of him wouldn’t be a difficult task.

In fact, since withdrawing from the competitive gambling circle, Alden has been focusing on studying psychology for years, constantly experimenting on some gamblers, hoping to apply this set of psychological theories to gambling.

Thus, his ability to judge an opponent’s cards through their facial micro-expressions is exceptionally strong. After an opponent looks at their cards, he can discern from their eye expressions and subtle movements whether they truly hold a strong hand or are bluffing, and even speculate roughly on what cards they might hold.

Therefore, even though Huo Sining disrupted his card memory plan, Alden didn’t lose his composure or panic. He simply lost a crutch but, as an old Gambling King, he still had the grace for that. After glancing at Huo Sining indifferently, Alden casually picked up a chip and threw it to the center of the table.

Huo Sining also tossed in a chip, and Windsor Caesar dealt a face-down card to each, followed by a face-up card.

Huo Sining’s face-up card was a five of clubs, while Alden’s was a queen of hearts.

Since Alden’s card was higher than Huo Sining’s, it was up to him to decide whether to raise the bet.

Alden casually reached out to look at his hole card, discovering it was also a queen.

This surprised Alden greatly, as it meant he started the hand with a pair of queens. He glanced at Huo Sining’s card indifferently, considering that even if Huo Sining’s hole card was a five, it would only be a pair of fives, significantly smaller compared to his pair of queens.

Thinking this way, Alden carelessly tossed two more chips onto the table.

Alden actually wanted to throw in more chips, but being a gentleman, this was just the first hand, and he feared that betting too aggressively might scare Huo Sining across the table, so he decided to take it easy.

Windsor Caesar glanced at Huo Sining, adhering to his duties as the croupier, and asked, ”Miss Huo, Mr. Alden has bet two million. Are you going to call?”

According to the rules of showdown poker, if Huo Sining didn’t call, this hand would be void.

However, Windsor Caesar thought, since this is the first hand, how could Huo Sining possibly fold?

The other onlookers thought so too.

But what everyone didn’t expect was that Huo Sining, without even glancing at her hole cards, directly threw in both of them.

”I don’t call.”

Not only did Huo Sining’s action leave Alden dumbfounded, it also stunned Clayflo and Semiya.

Windsor Caesar twitched at the corner of his mouth but still dutifully pushed the four million chips in the center of the table over to Alden.

No one anticipated that Huo Sining would actually fold in the first hand.

In a two-person duel, unlike playing showdown with three or four players, the probability of getting a big hand is still very high. Even if the first card is small, there’s still a chance for four-of-a-kind or a straight flush later, so Huo Sining folding so early seemed unwise to the crowd.

But Huo Sining did it anyway.

Su Qingqing, witnessing this, anxiously stamped her foot. With such a poor start, Huo Sining’s situation in this round of gambling seemed dire.

Huo Sining, however, remained indifferent, simply raising her head and looking at Windsor Caesar, signaling him to continue dealing the cards.

Windsor Caesar collected the cards and swiftly shuffled them, and both sides once again threw a million chips to the center of the table before Windsor Caesar dealt each party a face-up and a face-down card.

This time, Huo Sining didn’t fold but called with two million, although she didn’t look at her hole cards. Her face-up card was even smaller than before, a four of hearts.

Alden’s face-up card was a seven of diamonds, not much higher than Huo Sining’s, but as he’s accustomed to showdown poker, he knows these two cards aren’t crucial. The upcoming cards hold the chances for a turnaround.

So, he didn’t hesitate to call with two million.

The croupier continued dealing, giving each two a face-down card.

Alden attempted to discern something from Huo Sining’s gaze as she looked at her card, hence, while flipping his card, he sneakily observed Huo Sining through the corner of his eye.

Yet, much to Alden’s dismay, the woman opposite him, after receiving her second hole card, showed no intention of flipping it, merely waiting quietly for Alden’s next move.

Alden furrowed his brow slightly and ceased focusing on Huo Sining, turning his attention to his own cards.

His luck was neither particularly good nor bad. The two hole cards underneath were a seven of clubs and a jack of hearts.

Under such circumstances, he at least had a pair of sevens, with possibilities of two pairs, three-of-a-kind, and even four-of-a-kind, hence the chance of winning remained.

Yet, Alden felt a bit uncertain. If the woman opposite would look at her hole cards, he could garner some insight from her face to determine whether to continue betting;

However, the woman seemed entirely indifferent, as if acting as an outsider, she didn’t look at her hole cards, merely giving him a half-smile, seeming to decide her bet based solely on her mood. Such gambling tactics are unseen even by Clayflo.

Alden hesitated briefly, refraining from continuing and directly folding his hand.

The chips returned to Huo Sining’s possession.

Two hands of cards, Huo Sining folded once, Alden folded once, playing showdown poker as if children at play, leaving both parties’ spectator friends staring at each other in bewilderment, utterly clueless about what these two gambling kings were up to.

”Brother, what is Uncle Levi up to? It seems like he’s being overly cautious, completely unlike his usual style. Strange, isn’t it just calling? Why is he being so prudent? His cards don’t seem small,” Semiya, who is usually fearless and boastful, was familiar with such gambling tactics, so seeing Alden actually fold left her puzzled and even displeased.

What’s the point of this? She was hoping to see Uncle Levi crush this Oriental woman, venting her anger, yet the situation turned out like this. If they keep folding, when will this gamble end, and what’s the fun in that?
