Reborn As Super Heiress

Capítulo 1903: Chapter 1806: Show Some Sincerity

Clayflo did not expect this Huaxia woman to be so direct; he was rendered speechless by Huo Sining’s words.

Although he was reluctant to admit it, Clayflo knew very well in his heart that what Huo Sining was saying was indeed the truth.

His maternal family, and even the Rothschild Family, originated from D Country, and in the early last century, both families participated in the Eight-Nation Alliance’s invasion of Huaxia. The so-called family heirlooms he spoke of were also items that his forebears plundered from Huaxia Country back then.

Precisely because of his understanding of this history, Clayflo felt guilty and ashamed, finding himself unable to refute Huo Sining.

However, the D Country people have a virtue: they dare to confront their past history. When they’re wrong, they’re wrong. Even the President of D Country publicly kneeled in apology at the Warsaw Memorial, unlike the Dongyang people who not only refuse to admit but also covertly alter the history, with their Prime Minister openly worshipping at shrines. Such shameless and vile actions refresh Huaxia people’s lowest perceptions.

This Clayflo was no exception. After hearing Huo Sining’s straightforward words, he wasn’t angry. Instead, his eyes showed sincerity and remorse as he said:

“I’m sorry, Miss Huo. It was inappropriate of me. These items were indeed obtained from your country and likely through dishonorable means. I was lost in nostalgia for my maternal ancestors’ kindness and didn’t realize that my words might have hurt you and your companions.”

This young master of the Rothschild Family displayed none of Semiya’s arrogance and was very forthright. After being questioned by Huo Sining, he not only admitted his mistake but also apologized to her. This made Huo Sining feel a certain goodwill toward this foreigner; she wasn’t prepared to hold a grudge and quickly waved her hand, saying:

“Mr. Clayflo, these are past histories. As the saying goes, ‘Crimes do not touch parents, disasters do not involve spouse or children.’ Those old grievances of ancestors have nothing directly to do with you.”

“However, in Huaxia Country, there’s an old saying: ‘Forgetting history means betrayal.’ This Changxin Palace Lantern, and even the items in this box, originally belong to our Ancient Huaxia Country’s relics. If I hadn’t come across them, it would be different. But since I’ve encountered them now and have won them, I think it’s better if I take them back to Huaxia Country.”

“I understand your feelings for your ancestors, sir, but this is a matter of principle, so I cannot agree to your request.”

Clayflo, though unfamiliar with Huaxia civilization, grew up with his maternal family and heard many stories from his grandparents about the great catastrophe of the past.

Of course, his grandparents too heard those tales from previous generations, passed down verbally with inevitable embellishments and exaggerations. But most of it was still factual.

The Eight-Nation Alliance surged into that ancient civilized country; Yuanmingyuan was incinerated in an instant. Under the Imperial City of Huaxia Imperial Capital, countless aristocratic mansions were ransacked. Box after box of Huaxia treasures was shipped overseas, which, to outsiders like Clayflo, was undoubtedly thrilling. From a young age, he was filled with curiosity about Huaxia Country, this land abundant with rare treasures.

However, seeing this slender Huaxia woman in front of him, defending her nation’s dignity and rights with such unyielding dignity, Clayflo realized, in a fleeting moment, that his previous views might have been mistaken. Regarding the Eastern nation, he was far less knowledgeable; everything remained within the mysterious yet timidly outdated Oriental country constructed by his grandparents’ narratives.

Yet to let these items just walk away with this Huaxia woman, Clayflo was, after all, unwilling.

Clayflo also knew that his sister had signed an agreement to bet against someone. Officially, by law, the ownership of this box of items was Huo Sining’s, and he had no way to dispute it.

Clayflo felt a headache coming on and, after thinking it over, couldn’t help but propose a suggestion he was sure she wouldn’t accept:

“How about this, Miss Huo? Whatever amount you paid my sister for these items, I’m willing to pay double to buy them back. What do you think?”

Sure enough, upon hearing his proposal, Huo Sining couldn’t help but laugh:

“Mr. Duke, I think you might have misunderstood me. Every item in this box is an ancestral heirloom from our Huaxia, a cultural treasure. Now that I’ve won them, I will undoubtedly do my best to take them back to my country. No matter how much I need money, I won’t exchange these treasures. Can you understand what I mean?”

Huo Sining wasn’t foolish. Even if the items were repurchased for twice the price, Clayflo wouldn’t incur a loss. But once sold, she might never encounter such items again in her lifetime.

Good things happen by chance, not demand, and besides, she wasn’t in need of money. These items were obtained freely; she hadn’t spent a penny. Naturally, she wouldn’t be foolish enough to sell them just for a little money. Her view wasn’t that short-sighted.

Clayflo furrowed his brow, contemplating before he suddenly spoke:

“I think this is better. As I recall, your country has a saying: ‘An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, debts repaid with bets and blood debts repaid with blood.’ Since my sister lost things at the gambling table, I suppose it’s only fair if I try to win them back at the same table, right?”

Upon hearing Clayflo’s words, Huo Sining wasn’t sure whether to laugh or cry. What do you mean by ‘an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, debts repaid with bets and blood debts repaid with blood’? If you don’t understand Huaxia language, don’t use it recklessly. It sounds so creepy!

Yet Clayflo spoke with all seriousness, as if it were a legitimate thing.

Huo Sining understood well enough that Clayflo wanted not only to regain the lantern but also to help his sister save face. Even though he hadn’t shown Semiya any kindness since entering, not even a glance, they were, after all, siblings. How could a brother remain indifferent when his sister faced humiliation?

Unfamiliar with Clayflo’s background initially, Huo Sining intended to refuse, but then she recalled something about the black market auction’s grand finale that Clayflo had mentioned, and her interest piqued. She looked up with a smile, saying:

“Mr. Duke, if you’d like to gamble with me, it’s not impossible, but you must show some sincerity. If you don’t present stakes worth my effort, I think there’s no reason for the gamble to proceed, right?”
