Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 92: Chapter 89: The Conductor Never Makes a Losing Deal

Yu Yue checked it over once, finding nothing unusual.

Then Su Huan used his pan-energy perception to check again, only to discover some anomalies.

An additional structure had appeared on the SUV, blending in so seamlessly with the vehicle that even Lu Xiao hadn’t noticed.

Looking at the black plastic block in his hand, Su Huan sneered.

”What’s this?”

Lu Xiao felt like a curious child, but everything that appeared now was beyond his knowledge.

”A type of pan-energy bomb made with new materials, undetectable by conventional means.”

Su Huan casually tossed it aside, and with a flash of electricity, a vast curtain of rain twisted momentarily.

Then dispersed outward.

No one was more familiar with these methods than he.

”Alright, load up.”

At Su Huan’s command, the group sprang into action, moving crates of ammunition onto the fire truck.

The purified water had long been used up, and the space inside had been transformed into storage, enough for over a hundred crates of ammo.

Su Huan beckoned Lu Xiao over, and the two moved to the side.

Muddy rain splattered on their black raincoats, the damp vapor mixed with a metallic tang streaming into their noses, enough to damage any ordinary person’s respiratory system with prolonged exposure.

Luckily, the armory had a batch of gas masks, which were distributed to the people.

Su Huan disliked the suffocating feeling and found the obstruction of his vision more impactful than the slight damage from acid rain.

”I’ll give you ten guns.”

”What?!”

Lu Xiao was taken aback by the train captain’s generosity, unable to react at once.

”Take as many bullets as you can carry.”

Su Huan continued as if he hadn’t heard the question.

Lu Xiao was silent for a moment, then looked up at him, his face mostly obscured by the raincoat, impossible to read, his voice tinged with an unusual tone, ”Aren’t you afraid I’ll just take the guns and run?”

”There was another one before.”

”Ran off?”

”I even lit a cigarette for him.”

”Who could be so ungrateful to ignore a cigarette from the train captain? And then?”

”Then he tried to kill me.”

”You’re not saying you took him out, are you?”

Lu Xiao flashed a roguish grin.

He saw Su Huan purse his lips, hard to tell if he was smiling or something else—just a hint of regret.

Then the train captain said something he always thought sounded badass every time he recalled it.

”I can’t persuade anyone; I can only do what I must.”

Lu Xiao took a deep breath and spoke solemnly, ”What do you want me to do? As for taking out those people, forget it. Even with my comrades, I wouldn’t be sure, let alone these small fry.”

Su Huan shook his head, ”A fire truck and an SUV, just find a way to drive them back.”

The atmosphere grew dense, the only sound was the rain hitting the ground.

The sounds of loading in the distance were faintly audible.

Suddenly, an arc of electricity shot out from under Su Huan’s feet, racing along the rainwater over fifty meters and taking out a casually wandering zombie.

Lu Xiao wiped the dampness from his forehead and grinned, ”Ten guns for ten lives, never seen anyone as ruthless as you.”

”The train captain never makes a losing deal.”

...

The armory was completely emptied, the convoy split in two, each taking different paths back to the train.

One of the fire trucks slowed down as it passed through a narrow alleyway.

Two figures in raincoats jumped off.

Watching the fire truck disappear into the distance, Su Huan tugged at his hat.

Knowing full well He Jie might ambush them on the way, there was no way he’d choose to ride back.

Lu Xiao’s division was just an extra precaution.

The secret to not losing was never placing yourself on the board.

Su Huan might extend some trust to those around him, but he trusted himself most of all.

”Let’s go, we’ll miss Lu Xiao’s car if we’re any slower.”

Yu Yue nodded, clutching her sniper rifle, ”Two zombies in the guardroom to the left front, and... seems like a Butcher is fighting something inside the complex.”

”That’s the one good thing about acid rain, it shields zombie’s hearing and smell.”

”Yeah.”

”Keep the muzzle down, whether running or jumping, leave some energy, so you’re always ready to react to an attack.”

”I can hear danger.”

Su Huan nimbly flipped over a wall, landing and creating ripples, ”This is the apocalypse, don’t blindly trust your abilities. Master everything you can, leaving the last bit to fate.”

After slowing his landing move for Yu Yue to see, Su Huan suddenly darted away.

Yu Yue watched his retreating figure, a flash of complexity in her eyes.

She quickly followed.

With Su Huan’s experience and Yu Yue’s hearing, they almost entirely avoided trouble.

Landing on a balcony, they hid behind a wide sign that concealed them, watching from the corner gap, exactly the route they came from.

”They were here.” Su Huan stated with certainty from the balcony.

Yu Yue glanced around, the ground was dry, no footprints, even the balcony glass was intact, just marks from acid splash.

But those marks disappeared upon reaching the ground.

Her gaze naturally settled on a mop in a corner.

”You mean the ground’s too clean?”

Su Huan pointed at a nearby trash can calmly, ”You’re sensitive, just not in the right way. Besides, he used some odor-removing gadget, just masked by the acid rain, perhaps assuming no one would notice, so he hadn’t planned to clear the scene carefully.”

Inside was an unmarked spray.

”Uh... They’re here.” Yu Yue looked down and said.

Su Huan glimpsed the cement road below, where the fire truck driven by Lu Xiao plowed through, parting water like a boat.

Scattered zombies posed no effective barrier.

”There’s at least two more sniper positions like this, find them yourself.” Su Huan said indifferently, then climbed up along the pipes.

Yu Yue looked at the ground’s height, gritted her teeth, and followed.

A competent sniper is hard to cultivate. Though Su Huan had encountered skilled ones, he still only half understood.

In the Steel Council, he was trained more for logistics.

How to stably control energy, adjusting power output based on different appliances’ needs, converting energy with minimal loss...

In short, how to be a good power bank.

But Yu Yue had potential in this area.

It’s just that surviving too long in peaceful conditions masked her talents.

In these times, skills are secondary; talent is the fundamental decider.

Su Huan grabbed onto the wall’s edge and climbed up.

The wound on his right hand split from exertion, oozing blood that reacted with the acid rain, turning a turbid gray-brown.

Standing on the rooftop, peering out through the heavy rain, he finally spotted his target.

Su Huan licked his lips.

’Rebirth is the true path to invincibility, Captain He.’
