Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 57: Chapter 56: No Way Back, Smash Them!

Lu Xiao paced back and forth on the gangway of carriage number ten for half a day. It was only when he heard the exclamations behind him that he walked over.

Looking down through the anti-explosion net of the armored carriage, he was shocked to his core.

The fragment of the Evolution Beast seen through the small window made his scalp tingle.

He wanted to see the situation at the front of the train, but it was blocked by the anti-explosion net on the window.

He reached out to pull the anti-explosion net of the armored carriage and found it unbreakable. Clenching his teeth, he moved through the crowded people toward the back of the carriage.

Due to his previous analysis, many people were keeping an eye on him.

Seeing his actions, they quickly followed.

Reaching the sixteenth carriage, Lu Xiao opened the window, and a wave of hot, rust-scented air rushed into the carriage.

Looking at the swirling river below and the Evolution Beast crashing into the bridge pillars, he took a deep breath. Grabbing the window frame with both hands, he flipped himself onto the roof.

Everyone was suddenly enlightened, and those with some skills followed his lead, climbing up on the roof.

The timid ones lay against the windows, looking forward.

When the crowd saw the giant silver python coiled among the stay cables of the Jiangxin Bridge Tower, the whole train seemed to enter the workings of a clock, where every cog meshed with extreme clarity.

The immense body, dragon-like yet serpent-like, bore primal horror, weighing heavily on everyone’s heart.

When those blue vertical pupils swept over, even in the above-forty-degree heat, Lu Xiao felt a chill rising from the core of his being.

His skin was numb, his muscles like steel cables wrapped and twisted to the bones, unable to move an inch.

”Wait a minute, is that—”

A small grey silhouette standing on the front of the armored train caught his trembling gaze.

”The conductor is at the front!”

Someone behind him shouted.

Like an icebreaker smashing through an iceberg, brutally forcing its way into this deadly world.

Lu Xiao looked at the tiny figure in relation to the White Snake and trembled inside, his throat dry beyond measure.

What is he trying to do?

...

The heat waves surged wildly as Su Huan stood on the blood-stained train front.

In front of him was a barrel of gasoline, with four grenades placed on top. Were it not so impractical, Lao San would have lifted the whole case up there.

Standing here, no one saw more clearly than him; even the massive scales on the snake, the size of washbasins, were clear.

The White Snake’s head slowly descended from the top of the bridge tower, its head suspended at the bridge’s center.

The azure eyes seemed to have melted an entire glacier into liquid sapphire, pouring it into its eye sockets. The iris surface reflected a steel dragon made of forty-seven carriages and the murmuring little Su Huan on top.

”What a beautiful creature. If I ate you, I could evolve to Level 2, too, right?”

Licking his dry lips, Su Huan stared at White Snake Mojiang, viciously biting into the bloodhound heart in his mouth with his dense white teeth.

Fresh blood splattered in his mouth.

He could even feel the strong muscle fibers twitching in his mouth.

Rank, resilient!

Massive pan-energy also flooded into his body in this way.

LV2 ”Pan-energy Transformation” was washed by pan-energy, gradually nearing the tipping point.

Feeling the increasingly vast and restless energy within him, Su Huan lifted his head, gasping heavily, blood gushing from his mouth, with a third of the heart remaining in his hand.

”Go any further, and you’ll die. Your body is very unstable now.”

A timid voice drilled into his ears, and without thinking, he knew it was Yu Yue. Only she could deliver her voice to the front of the train at this time.

A bizarre array of colors flickered in Su Huan’s eyes, as if a kaleidoscope had been overturned.

Various hues exchanged repeatedly.

”Go back?”

Su Huan’s mind flashed with images of his miserable state from four years of his past life.

Every day risking his life to scavenge food from the ruins, required to surrender eighty percent.

For those scraps, he killed people and was hunted in turn, but that was no big deal, because not even the Acid Rain Zone would pour unrelenting rain for four whole years; sometimes, the sun did peek through.

Whenever the rain stopped, he would take out his damp heart to dry in the sun, to keep it from rotting.

Until he witnessed the retreating night snuffed out by a fire, the constructed walls of steel demolished by steel.

He knew this world was beyond salvation, so he quietly took out the heart he had meticulously kept for years and ate it.

Until rebirth.

He knew he wasn’t the fire that could drive away the night, nor the steel that could construct barriers.

All he could do was move faster, ever faster.

Since he boarded the train, there had been no turning back.

He must forge ahead, advance ahead of everyone, to possibly reshape this damned world by his will.

The evolutionary train waits for no one.

That sentence was said to everyone, and to himself as well.

He had no retreat.

So his choice had always been singular.

Crush them!

”You could try it too, this taste of devouring a heart... it’s really thrilling.”

Su Huan swallowed the flesh and blood in his throat in one gulp, consuming the remaining heart completely.

A grin crept uncontrollably to his lips.

”You...”

”I’m not crazy, I’ve never been in better shape.”

Su Huan’s eyes glimmered with a ghostly light, and as he eyed the approaching White Snake, he opened the gasoline barrel in front of him.

”Your singing that day was beautiful.”

In the sightseeing carriage, Yu Yue, whose heart had leapt to her throat, was briefly stunned, uncertain why Su Huan would bring it up now.

”Hum another tune, won’t you?”

”... I can’t sing, well, what would you like to hear?”

Observing the impending collision with trembling nerves, anxiety overflowed from her apricot eyes.

”Whatever.”

His ears heard no sound for a long while.

Su Huan didn’t care, he flung the lid away, and the quivering surface of the calm oil trembled slightly with the train’s movement.

Then Yu Yue’s soft hum suddenly reached his ears, like ripples on water stirred by the wind.

”One person later crossed the Jiangnan, smoke and rain locked in melancholy...” (voiceover)

’How sad!’

Su Huan raised an eyebrow.

Yet his smile grew increasingly mad.

Picking up the four grenades, he pulled their safety pins.

He tossed them into the oil barrel.

A ”plop” sounded as they hit.

”The sound of flutes and drums sing on, severing the souls of those who hear...”

’Does she think I’m going to die?’

As Mojiang hovered nearly in front of him, Su Huan inexplicably felt like laughing.

And so he did.

”Boom—”

The explosion came suddenly, violently, like summer thunder without warning, erupting fiercely twenty meters from the snake head.

Violent flames blossomed at the train front, momentarily lighting the pitch-black night.

All those standing behind the carriage could see it clearly.

The shocking scene left them speechless.

Yu Yue’s voice abruptly stopped, and she instinctively covered her mouth and nose, as tears, like beans, fell from her slightly opened apricot eyes.

Mad laughter echoed from the front of the train, overpowering the explosion, overshadowing the roar of the train!
