Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 69: Chapter 68: The Conductor’s Burden

The third carriage had completely turned into a slaughterhouse.

Large patches of white snake skin were hung on the walls, with a layer of pale flesh attached, looking fresh and tender as if just stripped, without a trace of dryness.

The new doctor was assisting Wan Xing, looking pale and inexperienced in technique.

There wasn’t much snake meat left, likely consumed over the past few days. After all, with over a thousand people on the train and the train conductor feasting on it, no one would be stingy.

Passing through the third carriage and the dining car, I arrived at the door of Su Huan’s room.

At this time, Yu Jing was directing three people to move things inside.

They were all electronic devices, including phones, tablets, laptops, and other miscellaneous items.

”What are you doing? Why are you moving this junk into my room?”

Su Huan asked suspiciously.

Yu Jing looked up and said calmly, ”While they were rummaging through the stuff, I found a lot of power banks and various batteries on the train. If you’re bored, you could charge these batteries.”

”You’re assigning me work now?”

Su Huan crossed his arms, glanced at the various batteries, and said in a dissatisfied tone.

He had a look on his face like if you don’t give me a reasonable explanation, I’ll make things difficult for you.

Yu Jing sighed a bit, softening her tone, ”Many places need electricity when we start work. You can’t run around everywhere, and electricity is inconvenient to use in other carriages, delaying progress. So, we have to trouble the train conductor to pitch in.”

That’s the situation, and that’s the context.

But Su Huan was very unhappy.

I’m the dignified conductor, what do you mean by having nothing to do?

The lives and welfare of over a thousand people on this train are on my shoulders, and you just treat me like a power bank?

”Although you make a good point,” Su Huan’s lips curled mischievously, ”I won’t do it!”

...

”Beep beep... beep beep...”

Su Huan looked up at the small electronic clock that was chirping.

The time had already reached seven o’clock in the evening.

He placed the fully charged power bank aside and continued in the dark to reach into the box. This time, instead of grabbing something big, he pulled out a handful of scattered AA batteries.

”Hmm?”

”Damn it, even these AA batteries need charging! Damn it!”

He tossed the batteries to another box, though even in his tantrum, he didn’t forget to fully charge them before throwing them away.

The reason he was busy for so long wasn’t due to insufficient energy, but because these batteries allowed a very low input voltage, so he had to control it to prevent burning them with too much power.

Now that his main skill, ”Pan-energy Transformation,” had upgraded to Level 3, with a conversion efficiency of 30%, the total energy of these batteries combined wasn’t even as much as what he stored.

However, more energy recovery was slower too. When he was level one, resting for a while could restore energy, but now if he released all his energy at once, it would take at least three days to recover.

To speed this up, he’d have to consume Pan-energy Crystals.

Currently, he had a Tier Two one in his hand.

It couldn’t be used for now.

That’s strategic-level resources; Tier Two Evolution Beasts and zombies aren’t easy to kill. As long as they don’t throw themselves at a running train engine, Su Huan had no answer for them.

While contemplating how to find a reasonable excuse to give Yu Jing a hard time, he finished and organized the remaining batteries.

Su Huan washed the dust off his hands and left the carriage.

The dining car was brightly lit, and Yu Yue was busily behind the counter. On the induction cooker was an iron pot, emitting a faint spicy aroma.

Yu Yue wiped her hands, looked up at Su Huan, and gently said, ”I was just about to call you; Lu Xiao and the others are back.”

”Oh?”

Su Huan raised an eyebrow.

He walked directly towards the rear carriages.

In the tenth carriage, he saw Xiaoba busy working. Under Yu Jing’s direction, he was molding a large metal door, dividing the front and back of the tenth carriage.

”They just returned, and several are seriously injured.”

Yu Jing said.

Su Huan passed by her without even looking, only greeting Xiaoba.

Qi Xiaobai glanced between the two with a puzzled look and quietly asked, ”Sister Jing, did you make Su angry?”

Yu Jing rubbed her nose and sighed, ”Sort of.”

Xiaoba continued working, flattening and shaping the metal, and earnestly said, ”Then find a time to apologize to Su properly. He’s just cold outside but warm inside; he’ll definitely forgive you.”

’Cold outside but warm inside?’

Yu Jing’s mouth twitched. Could Xiaoba be misunderstanding our train conductor?

If apologies worked, she would have been kneeling by now.

Even if she threw herself on Su Huan’s bed tonight, he’d still humiliate and kick her down.

For this man, the joy from apologies is far less than that from revenge...

Wait a minute, throwing herself on the bed?

Yu Jing’s eyes showed signs of contemplation. If she proactively let him humiliate her, would she not have to anxiously await revenge?

...

In the fifteenth carriage, the lights were bright, and the newly appointed godlike doctor Lin Xia was frantically trying to save patients.

He was half-kneeling there, the hemostatic clamp slipping in his fingers, sweat condensing inside his rubber gloves. The gauze roll was soaked with blood as soon as it was unrolled, dark red spreading across the floor.

Beads of sweat rolled down his forehead, whether from fear or heat was uncertain.

He knew the day of exposure would come soon, but he didn’t expect it to come so quickly.

Just starting duty at noon, was he going to be dragged out and shot by night?

Lin Xia thought chaotically, while using the knowledge vaguely heard in class to help the man in front stop bleeding and bandage.

To his left lay a man with a broken arm, his right arm dangling in an unnatural position.

”Doctor, save me, I’m dying...”

In front, someone kept pleading.

The moans of over a dozen wounded filled the air, but instead of confusing him, it cleared his messy head.

He quickly bandaged according to the severity of the injuries.

Lu Xiao stood beside him with a grim face, occasionally glancing at the man guarding him with a gun. It was two of the three brothers, but because they looked alike, he couldn’t tell who was who.

The thick-soled military boots tapped on the floor, revealing his irritated mood.

”Has the train conductor arrived? I’ve already brought the stuff back.”

The Boss glared, ”Why are you rushing? The train conductor is busy with a million things; he can’t just come and go at will.”

Lao Er didn’t make a sound, just silently raised the muzzle of the micro submachine gun two inches.

Lu Xiao snorted in frustration.

The whole train is just a straight line; could it really take half an hour to walk from the engine room to the fifteenth carriage?

But he wisely kept quiet; the man before could at least talk, but these two were just brain-dead idiots.

”Looks like you’ve brought back what I wanted,” a faint voice came from the corridor.
