Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 68: Chapter 67: The First Trade

Lao San gave the two brothers a signal, and the three of them immediately leaned against the train wall.

They pointed their guns at the window, warily watching the outsider.

Su Huan squinted his eyes and glanced, then said calmly, ”Relax, it’s probably just a lone wolf passing by...”

Before he finished speaking, the other party began to slow down and stopped next to the train.

Su Huan was stunned. A car daring to approach his train so recklessly? Is it because the other party has too much faith in human nature in the apocalypse, or do they have fearless courage?

”Huh?”

However, the wasteland-style modified car quickly caught his attention.

The car body was mainly divided into two parts, the front being an SUV modification, with an extended rear end. The most unusual part was the addition of a car shell on the roof, providing enough height for someone to stand inside.

The bottom car windows were covered by curtains, while the top car windows were open, allowing both privacy and light.

The rear part was a trailer, likely storing living supplies and such.

The entire vehicle was roughly modified but had a special aesthetic.

It reminded him of those bizarre yet wildly impressive modified cars from his past life.

The car door opened, and a young man, about the same height as Liang Kuan, stepped out, raising his hands to show he meant no harm, and slowly approached the train.

Though his face had some stubble, it was clearly groomed recently, and his clothes were not too shabby.

Standing five meters away, the young man shouted, ”I wonder if we could make an exchange?”

Su Huan placed his hand on the window, where a faint blue electric arc flickered intermittently.

He looked at him with interest, ”I want to know, what made you come near me?”

The young man hesitated, dodged the question, and sincerely said, ”Perhaps I have something you need.”

”A bold attempt?” Su Huan glanced at the back of the vehicle; there were others, possibly another Evolver.

Maybe someone with perception capabilities, able to sense whether they harbored malice.

Though it sounded a bit far-fetched, in the apocalypse, anything was possible.

”What do you have to trade?”

Su Huan didn’t dwell on the matter.

He didn’t expect the other party to have anything he needed, as passengers wouldn’t bring him extras outside of supplies, but everyone individually carried small objects, accumulating a few carriages of miscellaneous items over time.

The young man took out a folded map from his pocket, ”This is a map of Yijin.”

Su Huan’s expression shifted slightly.

Maps were precious in the apocalypse, and passengers knew this, so they wouldn’t hand them over if they found one.

The train only had a railway map in the cockpit.

And Yijin was the first city they were about to enter in Qingchuan Province, so the other party had indeed brought out something enticing.

Yet his expression remained steady. In bartering, the more one showed they cared, the harder they were taken advantage of, so he calmly asked, ”What do you need?”

The young man’s expression shifted, he licked his dry lips, ”I’d like to trade for some repair tools, and if you have any spare, some water would be nice too.”

Su Huan nodded, ”Sure, as long as the map checks out, I’ll give you a complete set of standard car repair tools and two bottles of 550ml purified water.”

The train didn’t lack tools.

Moreover, the fire truck carried a large quantity of professional equipment, with an abundance of pliers, wrenches, and screwdrivers that took up too much room; he even considered having Xiaoba melt them down into steel plates.

Now was the perfect opportunity to offload some.

The young man approached the train and passed the map through the gap in the blast-proof mesh.

Su Huan took the map, unfolded it for a look, saw no stains or wear, all data clearly marked, and nodded contentedly, ”Lao San, go fetch the items.”

Lao San put away his gun to get the items, while Su Huan began chatting with the young man.

”How are things over in Mojiang City?”

The young man looked surprised, his gaze seemed to say, aren’t you also just escaped? Why are you asking me?

But to ensure the deal went smoothly, he still replied, ”Terrible, especially these past two days, it’s been full of fires, zombies, and withered plants, with explosions sounding in the city now and then.”

Su Huan gestured with his chin at his car and smiled, ”Looks like you’ve been preparing for a long time?”

The young man showed a bitter smile, ”Since the apocalypse broke out, I’ve been on the run, and even then, I almost didn’t make it.”

”Interested in joining me? The train is much more robust than your car.”

Su Huan invited.

”No, I plan to head west.”

The young man declined decisively.

”Heading west... is not a bad choice,” Su Huan chuckled softly.

Just after a few words, Lao San came over carrying a box, opened the car door, and handed it to the other party.

The young man stuffed the two bottles of mineral water into his work pants pocket, opened the toolbox, and was surprised to find it full of neatly arranged tools, closed the lid, and stood up.

With a look of gratitude, he said, ”These things are worth more than the map, let me also give you a piece of advice: The Mojiang Mutual Aid Convoy is behind, and they might not be friendly.”

Su Huan dropped his fake smile, calmly nodded, and watched the other party drive away.

”What did they say in the car?”

Yu Yue’s expression was somewhat subtle, ”Inside was his wife, she said... see, there are still good people in the apocalypse.”

”Good person?”

Su Huan laughed silently.

For those who could aid him, he wasn’t stingy to extend some goodwill, often yielding pleasant surprises in return.

Su Huan’s goodwill was conditional.

He had motives, expecting reciprocation.

He never hid this fact.

As for the Mojiang Mutual Aid Convoy, he didn’t take them seriously. Not to mention the group of Juan he had eliminated, even at their peak in a past life, they wouldn’t have been a match for an armed train.

He turned and walked to the front carriage, Yu Yue half a step behind, and the three brothers followed like bodyguards, scanning the interior and exterior for potential threats.

Everyone adapted quickly.

Suddenly, Su Huan asked, ”Have you ever fired a gun?”

Yu Yue extended her fair fingers, pointing to her nose in a daze, ”Me?”

Then she abruptly recalled Su Huan saying she’d be a suitable sniper, feeling a bit anxious inside, ”No.”

”Lao San, bring that sniper rifle here, and the ammo too.”

”Understood.”

Lao San quickened his pace a little, while Su Huan continued forward, and thanks to the train’s space layout, walking a round basically let him see what everyone was up to.

In car seven, Huang Sea and Xiaowang busied themselves preparing for the carriage farm.

The cook ran back and forth, pushing large pieces of snake meat to the rear with a cart, preparing dinner for the passengers.

There were two dining cars in total, the front being for guests, the rear remained unused. Now with a cook, regular passengers could be separately served from those at the front.

Carriage four’s doors were tightly shut, indicating Liang Kuan and Xiaoba were probably catching up on sleep.
