Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 62: Chapter 61: Congratulations on Surviving

After all, when you are under someone else’s roof, you have to bow your head.

Plus, she did feel somewhat guilty. The bread and coffee were her favorites, so she had to endure the shame and accept the train conductor’s criticism.

Still, she held onto a sliver of luck in her heart.

After all, this was the dining car, a public area, where someone might come by at any moment.

Even if Su Huan were worse, would he force her to eat here?

...

Everyone has different eating habits. Take eating bread, for instance; Su Huan didn’t like the outer crust, finding its texture poor.

Leaning against the cabinet, Su Huan picked up the bread and leisurely tore off the ginger-colored crust, revealing the clean, soft crumb inside.

Watching him waste food so blatantly, Yu Yue’s almond eyes widened, and her shoulders slightly shrank.

The noonday sun poured through the blast-proof mesh, glaringly bright.

Accompanied by the train’s shaking, the red fruit inside the bread quivered.

Su Huan squinted his eyes, ”Where did the fruit come from?”

”It’s... it’s from soon-to-expire canned fruit.”

”Looks like you haven’t stopped sneaking snacks, have you, madam?”

Su Huan absentmindedly poked at the dried fruit. It was cherry; he wasn’t fond of this fruit. Not much flesh, and the pits weren’t removed, just put in whole, becoming rather wrinkled from the steaming and baking.

”No... I wasn’t sneaking snacks. I was planning to save it for dinner.”

Unlike Yu Jing, a woman who only showed a bashful, timid look when bullied.

Her long eyelashes blinked, filled with a mist of tears from being wronged, her cheeks flushed red, clumsily waving her hands in an attempt to explain.

”Tsk, still denying it. How much weight have you gained since you got on the train?”

Su Huan gulped down the coffee at his side, tossing the empty cup aside.

The bread in his hand was peeled clean, the soft crumb emanating a milky aroma. He kneaded it into a ball with his fingertips, took a bite, and asked with a mumble.

”How much supplies do we have left? Enough to eat?”

Even at times like this, being questioned about work by the boss made Yu Yue feel like she was going crazy, her eyes slightly dazed as they stared blankly at the aisle.

”White snake... according to your instructions, we’ve been eating snake meat lately. There’s enough left for a thousand people for one day, each with about a liter of clean water per day.”

”We still have plenty of food, but not enough clean water.”

Yu Yue was a bit stuck at first, but the more she talked, the smoother it became. Her ten fingers instinctively rested on Su Huan’s shoulder but dared not touch his head, fearing he’d get angry.

Her supernatural abilities were pushed to the extreme, fearing someone would walk into the carriage just then, leaving her too embarrassed to face anyone.

Yet the tingling sensation in front of her became harder and harder to bear.

Five minutes later.

”Brother Su... someone’s coming.”

Hearing the faint sound of footsteps, Yu Yue’s toes curled tightly in nervousness.

But Su Huan continued to leisurely savor her bread, only straightening up satisfied once he was full.

Seeing the woman mockingly pick up her cup, he bit the tip of his tongue, the faint milky aroma still lingering between his lips and teeth, he calmly said, ”Come help me clean the room tonight.”

Yu Yue bowed her head, tidying up the somewhat messy kitchen. Her body trembled slightly as she replied quietly.

Su Huan chuckled.

The train conductor holds the power of life and death over the passengers. Too much stress isn’t good; it easily leads to problems. Now that there’s a rare opportunity to relax, it’s time to unwind a bit.

Yu Jing came in, with a touch of black oil on her delicate nose. Upon seeing Su Huan, her eyes paused slightly, a subtle change, which would be hard to detect without the energy fluctuation present.

”Didn’t expect you’d be out so soon. I thought you’d stay a few more days.”

Su Huan tilted his head, asking puzzledly, ”Why ask that?”

Yu Jing eyed him up and down, with a desire to reach out, ”Don’t you need to get used to your abilities?”

Although the evolution route was different than in the past life, it was still of the Power Supplier type. With a little familiarity, he got used to the difference.

”Are my changes that noticeable?”

”It’s almost like you’ve become a different person. Your teeth are whiter, and their alignment is better. You used to have a pimple scar under your lip, and now it’s completely gone. Your skin is so delicate as if you’re wearing makeup. There are many other subtle changes, the most obvious being your temperament.”

Yu Jing spoke as she leaned in closer to observe him, and with her so close, Su Huan had to suppress his body’s instinctual alarm.

”Temperament?”

Yu Jing furrowed her brows, which were quite similar to her mother’s, ”It makes you seem very dangerous, like approaching a bomb.”

Su Huan curled his lips; this description was spot on. Such is the nature of a Power Supplier.

Now his heart was his ”Energy Storage Core,” which stored enough energy not only for the high-speed running of the train for five hours but also to blow it to smithereens.

Yet self-destruction wasn’t a routine tactic. Like that day when he used ”energy shaping” to convert unstable currents into manipulatable entities, that was the true combat method of the ”Energy Storage Core.”

However, his means were still quite limited.

The distance was short, and the power was confined to the intensity of energy he released.

It was far inferior to the previous life’s ”Electromagnetic Mage.”

But there’s nothing much to complain about. The ”Energy Storage Core” had its advantages in energy. Now, the pan-energy within him was two-thirds more than in the last life.

Of course, even the weakest Evolver would experience a significant enhancement of physical quality during evolution.

Though not comparable to Defenders, Su Huan’s strength and constitution were now far beyond the average person.

Specific data would need testing; there currently weren’t the conditions for that, so it would have to wait for the future.

Yu Jing wanted to get closer for another look, but her face suddenly tightened, feeling a slight sting, as if shocked by static electricity.

”You’ll understand what’s going on after you advance; stop sniffing me like a puppy.”

Feeling contemptuous, Su Huan gave her a sidelong glance.

’Petty man.’

Yu Jing expressionlessly ridiculed in her mind, sat by the table, propping her delicate face up as she watched Yu Yue busy in the kitchen.

Somewhat puzzled, was it really necessary to spend so long washing a single cup?

”Mom, what’s for dinner?”

Yu Yue stole a glance at Su Huan, clearly still shaken by the earlier reprimand. She tugged at the corner of her lip, hesitantly saying, ”Still snake meat, I guess...”

The train slowly came to a stop, and the people onboard habitually converged toward the dining car.

The first to arrive were Xiaoba and Liang Kuan, sitting on the left side of the table, followed by Wan Xing, who sat next to Yu Jing.

Old Three, clutching an Iron Curtain assault rifle, also arrived, glancing around both sides of the long table before choosing to stand aside. Since he didn’t sit, Boss and Old Er naturally stood with him aside.

Xiaoba’s wheelchair was rather large, leaving little space on the left side.

The right side was quite spacious, but Old Three, though occasionally not the brightest, wasn’t outright foolish.

Not having figured out the relationship between Su Huan and these women, he wasn’t about to approach recklessly.

Finally arriving were Huang Sea and the young man, carrying a scent of the sea. Seeing the situation, they naturally stood aside.

Knowing Su Huan was about to speak, Yu Yue poured a glass of ice water in front of him and then silently stood behind him, embodying the humble demeanor of a tea-serving maid.

The hierarchy at the front of the train was starkly obvious at this moment.

Seeing everyone orderly and well-behaved, Su Huan’s lips curved up, revealing a halfway-genuine smile, ”First of all, congratulations on surviving.”
