The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Meng Yunzheng couldn’t accompany Shu Yu on her return trip, but he insisted on spending the few days before her departure with her.

Qi Lie didn’t stand in the way this time, after all, he’s not an unkind person, is he? So he granted Meng Yunzheng a three-day leave.

After having a meal with Cheng Xian and bidding farewell, Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu still needed to return to Chenggu County for a visit.

Thus, the next day, the two of them, along with the three of them including Ah Rui, got on a carriage and left the city.

It had been about a month since they last returned, not a very long time, but as soon as they entered the city, they noticeably felt a difference.

The most remarkable change was the relaxed and carefree expressions on the faces of the passing townspeople, a stark contrast to the cautious looks they had a few months ago.

Leaning against the carriage, Shu Yu glanced at the bustling streets outside and suddenly laughed, ”It seems Tang Wenqian has been quite a competent county magistrate.”

Meng Yunzheng responded with a ”Hmm,” not saying much.

Yu wasn’t aware of Tang Wenqian’s ulterior motives, but Meng Yunzheng was well aware of them.

Speaking of which, he probably could be considered successful now, with his parents close by, and being at this age, shouldn’t he consider finding a wife?

”Yun, what’s the matter?” Shu Yu noticed his absentmindedness and waved her hand in front of his eyes.

Meng Yunzheng smiled and held her hand tightly in his palm, ”Nothing, I was just thinking that once you return, I don’t know when we’ll meet again.”

In August, he has to participate in the Imperial Examination, and once he’s finished, he’ll have to go to the Capital for the exams, aiming for the Imperial Examination in February next year. After finishing the palace exams, all sorts of other matters will crop up, and the earliest he might return to Dongan Province would be April or May.

Calculating all this, it would take at least a year.

With this realization, Meng Yunzheng’s brow furrowed deeply.

Shu Yu chuckled, ”When you travel to the Capital for your exams, I’ll come to see you.”

”It’ll be exhausting,” he pondered, ”How about I return to Dongan Province once the Imperial Examination ends this year and then head to the Capital after the New Year next year? I’ll have enough time.”

Shu Yu, ”...” Wouldn’t that be even more exhausting?

Given the inconvenient transportation these days, if it were modern times, one could fly there in a few hours.

Inside the carriage, Shurui, Erniu, and Dabao looked disgruntled. Did they really have no presence? Their sister and future brother-in-law were so obliviously holding hands, wasn’t it a bit inappropriate? Even if people outside couldn’t see, the three of them were right there.

After waiting for a while, Erniu finally couldn’t help but speak up, ”Well, Brother Meng, I think...” the exams are important.

Meng Yunzheng looked over, and Erniu swallowed hard.

”What do you think?” Meng Yunzheng was somewhat regretful; perhaps he should have prepared another carriage.

Erniu chuckled dryly, ”I think... your suggestion is very good. After the Imperial Examination, there’s almost half a year until the Imperial Examination in spring, so you can definitely return to Dongan Province for a visit. We all miss you very much.”

Shurui and Dabao, ”...” Where’s your dignity?

Meng Yunzheng nodded and looked at Shu Yu, ”See, they also think my suggestion is good.”

Shu Yu was amused by them.

By this time, the carriage had also arrived at the gate of the Meng family escort agency, and the three youngsters were the first to jump off the carriage, keeping a considerable distance from them.

Shu Yu walked into the Meng family escort agency and found that the expansion of the agency was already complete. The most significant change was the training grounds; it was already quite spacious, and now a large section has been set aside with Meihua Pillars, arrow targets, swords, spears, halberds, and dozens to hundreds of jin stone locks, neatly arranged in every corner of the training ground.
