The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Shu Yu ultimately couldn’t resist and called Jiang Fengshou to the study.

Once he sat down, she spoke directly, ”Tell me about the Gan Family’s situation.”

Jiang Fengshou glanced at Shu Yu, having a vague idea of the situation.

He was quite familiar with several prominent families in the prefecture, and after Gan Rui visited a few times, he paid extra attention and even inquired about them specifically.

So when Shu Yu asked, he honestly disclosed.

”The Gan Family is in the liquor business, with an ancestral brewing technique, and has been a well-known brand in Changjin Prefecture for decades. They also have shops in other places, and they’re quite reputable in Changjin Prefecture.”

”Young Master Gan is ranked fourth in the family, with two older brothers and an older sister before him. The eldest brother and third sister are from the same mother, while the second brother was born of a concubine and is a bastard. The Gan Family’s back courtyard is considered quite clean.”

Gan Rui’s biological brother is over ten years older than him, the age gap is somewhat large, especially since their mother passed away when Gan Rui was seven or eight, thus making them quite affectionate towards this younger brother. Now most of the Gan family’s businesses have been taken over by this older brother, Gan Rui has property and shops under his name, all managed by stewards, and he doesn’t need to worry about them. He gets dividends each year, lives without financial worries, and is generous in spending.

Gan Rui isn’t suited for business, but he’s righteous and has many friends.

Plus, his family, including his siblings and sister-in-law, take good care of him, allowing him to live comfortably.

Shu Yu squinted her eyes upon hearing this, ”So, it’s Gan Rui’s older brother and sister-in-law running the Gan Family now?”

”You could say that, Father Gan isn’t exactly suited for business either, a bit like Gan Rui in that regard.”

However, at least Gan Rui studies relatively well, Father Gan also studied, even attempted to take the imperial examinations, but he wasn’t successful academically. When he was younger, there was an older generation around, so he didn’t need to worry about business, later when they got older, the eldest son took over, so he didn’t need to take responsibility either.

Father Gan is quite like a wealthy idler, and he truly is. He’s not eager to manage anything, playing the role of a detached shopkeeper, and hasn’t considered remarrying in the eight or nine years since his first wife passed away. He spends his days looking at flowers, strolling with birds, discussing poetry and songs, going on outings, playing, his reading isn’t great but he certainly poses as a scholarly dilettante.

When he runs out of money, he just asks his eldest son for it, fortunately, he doesn’t ask for much. Despite Father Gan appearing to be freely enjoying life, he’s actually quite stingy. He’ll spend money on himself, but not on others. It’s said that many years ago, some people who didn’t know him well thought he was generous, and tried to make him a sucker by not bringing any money and hoping Father Gan would cover for them.

They assumed that since Father Gan was scholarly, he would definitely try to save face.

Unexpectedly, Father Gan would ignore them. No money for a carriage? Then walk. No money for food? Then starve. No money to buy things? Then don’t buy. Anyway, he only pays for himself, no one should expect to gain even a single cent from him.

Shu Yu, ”...” This Gan Family father-son trio really has their own unique personalities, completely different from each other.

But, one must say, none of them are worrisome individuals.

”What else?” Shu Yu asked, ”Is that sister-in-law from the Gan Family easy to get along with? What is her temperament like?”

”The Gan Family’s sister-in-law, Ms. Liao, has a gentle disposition, a quintessential lady of the house. She manages the household affairs, and the Gan family servants rate her highly, saying she handles everything meticulously. In terms of familial interactions, she observes proper etiquette and has a son and a daughter, securing her position well.”
