The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Cheng Jiatong suddenly raised her head. She remembered hearing rumors that the Wen’an County Lord had been betrothed early on, and the one she was betrothed to was none other than Scholar Meng, who aced the top three exams last year and who recently gained favor with Lord Qi.

She suddenly thought of what Shu Yu had said to her before — that she had mistaken someone else.

So, so she really did mistake someone? Not only that, but she even wanted to make a move against the County Lord?

Thinking of this, Cheng Jiatong’s face immediately turned pale.

At that moment, Cheng Xian introduced to Shu Yu, ”These two are the Eldest Young Master and Miss Four of the Cheng Family, the County Lord should be aware.” After a pause, he added, ”I’m here in Changjin Prefecture for some business and staying temporarily with the Cheng Family.”

With these words, Shu Yu immediately realized the connection.

Cheng Xian, the Cheng Family, and... Lord Cheng—all share the same surname Cheng.

So it seems the Cheng Family has some connection to the governor of Linzhang Prefecture in the southwest, Lord Cheng, otherwise Cheng Xian wouldn’t be able to stay here.

Just from Cheng Xian’s demeanor, the connection seems somewhat distant, and the Cheng Family undoubtedly wishes to ingratiate themselves with Lord Cheng.

Yet, regardless of how distant the relationship is, with such a connection, Shu Yu cannot pursue the matter too aggressively out of respect to Lord Cheng. At least, there’s no need to involve officials.

Luckily, Shu Yu never intended to involve the authorities. Qi Lie and Meng Yunzheng are incredibly busy, so she didn’t wish to trouble them with such trivial matters. But since the opposite party attempted to abduct her, she still needs to confront them for an explanation.

With this realization, Shu Yu sighed, ”Since you are friends with Guard Cheng, in deference to Guard Cheng, there’s no need to involve the authorities. However, in matters concerning my safety and property, I must get to the bottom of this.”

Cheng Xian nodded, ”Naturally.”

As he spoke, he looked at Cheng Jiatong, who shivered.

Shu Yu also turned her gaze to her, ”Miss Cheng, when I left the house today, a group of ruffians came at me with ropes and a sack. Had Xia Yan not been there, I might have faced misfortune. Conveniently, we caught the leader of the ruffians, and according to him, it was you who hired them to kidnap me, ruin my reputation, and make me so disgraced I would end my life in shame?”

With those words, Cheng Xian sharply furrowed his brow; the act seemed unbearably vicious.

His icy gaze fell on Cheng Jiatong, ”Miss Four, is this true?”

”No, it’s not true. I don’t know anything about this,” Cheng Jiatong naturally vehemently denied it, for previously, even if she admitted, the family would have cleaned up after her.

But now, the opposing side is the County Lord; kidnapping the County Lord and harming her reputation is a grave crime she couldn’t possibly bear.

Cheng Wenbao urgently added, ”County Lord, please quell your anger. Although my Fourth Sister is somewhat capricious, she would never do such a thing; there must be some misunderstanding here.”

”There’s no misunderstanding when there is both witness and evidence.” Xia Yan pushed the ruffian beside him.

The ruffian was terrified upon learning Shu Yu’s identity; seeing everyone’s attention on him, he hastily said, ”It was Miss Four who instructed us; her maid personally approached us and even gave us some money. Look, this is the deposit she gave us, saying that after the task was completed, she would give our brothers 60 taels of silver. She said the target was just some little girl from the county town without any background or backing. We had no idea she was a County Lord; had we known, we wouldn’t have dared act against her.”
