Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 143: Chapter 132: Scholar God’s Surgery

The exam finished, and Luo Qianqian, holding her schoolbag, went to Xu Tianyi’s examination hall but couldn’t find him. Alarmed, she quickly asked Class Nine students who hadn’t left the exam hall yet.

”Him? He turned in his paper early and then left, he might have had something to do?”

Luo Qianqian furrowed her brows, even if he had something to do, shouldn’t he have said something? She walked out of the school with her backpack and took out her phone to make a call she hadn’t made since saving the number.

The other side went ’beep, beep, beep...’ and then hung up.

Luo Qianqian was stunned. What’s going on? Was there an emergency? She quickly followed the route Xu Tianyi had once taken her on to find his place and started knocking loudly on the door. After a long while, Xu Tianyi opened the door with a cold expression, and upon seeing her, tried to shut the door.

Luo Qianqian quickly stuck a leg in the doorway, guessing he wouldn’t let her get hurt.

”What do you want?” Xu Tianyi asked coldly.

Luo Qianqian sniffed the air. What’s that smell? Braised beef noodles? She then asked in surprise, ”Why are you eating instant noodles again?”

”What’s it to you?” Xu Tianyi snorted coldly, stepped aside to let Luo Qianqian into the room; he neither dared nor wanted to let Luo Qianqian get hurt, otherwise, he would indeed fail the trust of the Luo family.

”Why are you mad?” Luo Qianqian saw the half-eaten instant noodles on the table, and her face turned cold.

”I’m not mad, just thinking that I don’t want to bother you anymore.” Xu Tianyi sat down and continued eating his noodles.

Luo Qianqian grabbed the noodles and rushed to the toilet to dump them in the toilet bowl: ”What do you mean, come on, spit it out, I, Luo Qianqian, will not pester you!” She was inexplicably angry; hadn’t everything been fine at noon?

Watching the noodles being dumped, Xu Tianyi found he wasn’t as furious as he imagined, only felt uneasy hearing Luo Qianqian’s words: ”I mean nothing, just don’t want to bother you.”

”How did I offend you, huh? When have I not treated you as a guest of honor, huh? When have things not been negotiable, huh? Huh, huh, huh?” Luo Qianqian, angry, threw her schoolbag on the couch and stood on the stool ranting.

”Speak properly, put your foot down.” Xu Tianyi said as he frowned at Luo Qianqian’s antics.

Seeing Xu Tianyi’s expression, Luo Qianqian subconsciously started to lower her foot but then realized and put it back on the chair; she wasn’t even wearing shoes, why shouldn’t she be allowed to do this? She thought about putting both feet up. With that in mind, Luo Qianqian stood up on the chair.

Xu Tianyi looked at Luo Qianqian standing on the chair somewhat dazed, then felt a discomfort in his stomach and quickly furrowed his brows: ”You should go home now, otherwise Fourth Brother will be angry.” Though younger than Shufan, he usually called Luo Yanran Fourth Brother, so referring to Shufan as Fourth Brother, Xu Tianyi felt no pressure.

”I won’t, you haven’t explained yourself yet, I’m not going anywhere. Why did you run off on your own? I only heard about the rumors today, why...” Luo Qianqian panicked seeing Xu Tianyi’s face turn increasingly pale. She hastily got off the chair: ”Don’t be mad, I’ve come down now. What’s wrong with you, where are you hurting?”

”Under the table... medicine... help me get water.” Xu Tianyi spoke slowly, biting his lower lip. Cold sweat had already formed on his forehead. Why was the pain so severe this time?

”Okay.” Luo Qianqian quickly found the medicine, glanced at the pill box, then hesitatingly asked, looking at the place Xu Tianyi was holding, ”Is it your stomach?”

”Painkiller... just need one!” Seeing Xu Tianyi’s face grow paler, Luo Qianqian panicked and took out her phone to call 120.

Then she fetched some hot water: ”Drink some water first, the ambulance will be here soon, let’s go to the hospital for a check-up.”

”No hospital!” Xu Tianyi suddenly knocked the water in Luo Qianqian’s hand onto the floor, shattering the glass into several pieces.

Luo Qianqian didn’t look, instead, she took out never-used handkerchief from her bag and wiped the sweat beads on Xu Tianyi’s forehead: ”I can’t help you with anything, but if you are really in this much pain, being so small, all I can do is to take you to the hospital for a check-up. If you hate me for this afterwards and want to sever ties with me, I have nothing to say, but for now, please wait for the ambulance.”

Xu Tianyi’s lower lip had already burst a blood bead, but he stubbornly didn’t cry out in pain, and couldn’t speak either.

Thinking in his head, it’s over, I might die from the pain, I shouldn’t have gotten mad at Luo Qianqian. She must be really worried, he then passed out into darkness.

When he woke up, smelling the familiar disinfectant, he slightly furrowed his brows. Familiar white walls, familiar bottles of medicine, familiar hardness of the bed.

Lifting his hand to check the time, he realized he was still holding another hand, which had already become swollen.

”Luo Qianqian, you...”

”Is she your sister? You siblings really have a good relationship. You were holding your sister’s hand before you passed out and refused to let go even during the surgery; the doctors couldn’t loosen your grip. The child just fell asleep not long ago, don’t wake her,” the elderly lady in the next bed softly said, looking at Xu Tianyi.

”Surgery?” Xu Tianyi looked puzzled, just about to get up, but felt a surge of pain in his abdomen.

”You just had your appendix removed. Rest well,” the elderly lady gently shook her head, ”It’s just past five, you can still sleep a bit more.”

Feeling her hand being let go, Luo Qianqian sleepily opened her eyes, seeing Xu Tianyi awake, her face filled with surprise, ”You’re awake, are you still feeling uncomfortable?” Then her face turned hesitant, ”I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have made you angry.” Then, her expression became pitiful, ”I haven’t told anyone, can you please not be angry anymore?”

Xu Tianyi, stunned by Luo Qianqian’s words, asked, ”Did you tell the family?”

”I made a call, and I’ve hacked through with a friend,” Luo Qianqian nodded her head, then turned to the elderly lady who was still awake and bowed in apology, ”I’m sorry, grandma, for disturbing your rest.”

”That’s alright, people get older, a little sleep suffices.” The elderly lady smiled, waved her hand, and lay down.

”Medical expenses...” Xu Tianyi looked at Luo Qianqian’s slightly reddened hand, feeling somewhat guilty.

”I’ve paid them already, asked the nurse sister for help,” Luo Qianqian said, looking at Xu Tianyi looking at her wrist, also feeling slightly embarrassed. Little did she know that Xu Tianyi would hold onto her so tightly before he passed out.

”School...” Xu Tianyi, looking at the exhausted figure of Luo Qianqian, frowned, just about to say something.

”I’ve already asked for sick leave,” Luo Qianqian, startled, immediately said.

”You...” Xu Tianyi was curious, was Luo Qianqian the worm in his stomach?

”I asked for two days off; I will come over after school in two days,” Luo Qianqian blinked and continued.

”Grumble...” This time the voice was not someone else’s but Luo Qianqian’s stomach protesting from not having dinner.

Xu Tianyi flinched; he had eaten something himself, but if he was holding onto Luo Qianqian, she probably hadn’t had a chance to eat yet. A wave of self-reproach filled his heart.

”What do you want to eat? I’ll go buy it,” Luo Qianqian blinked, not embarrassed at all by the rumble of her stomach, then confidently said, ”Millet porridge would be best, it’s good for the stomach.” Luo Qianqian had seen Xu Tianyi’s medicine box at home and had a rough understanding of his physical condition.

Watching Luo Qianqian leave the hospital room, Xu Tianyi felt like he might be abandoned again, feeling like Luo Qianqian would not come back anymore.

Seeing Luo Qianqian walking into the hospital room carrying millet porridge, chicken leg rice, and soy milk fried dough, Xu Tianyi felt that the entire room lit up. (Xiao Luo: It did light up because the sun came out.)

”Grandma, I bought buns, fried dough sticks, and soy milk. Which would you like?” Luo Qianqian first went to the elderly lady.

”Thank you, young lady.” Seeing Luo Qianqian carrying a large bag of food, knowing it included a portion for herself, the elderly lady nodded, ”Just soy milk and fried dough sticks will be fine. Older people can’t eat too greasy.”

Luo Qianqian hung the leftovers on the doorknob, then helped the elderly lady open the soy milk container with a straw and arranged the tissues before going to Xu Tianyi’s bed, ”First drink the millet porridge. If it’s not enough, let me know.” Saying this, Luo Qianqian, as usual, opened the millet porridge with a straw, helped Xu Tianyi up, then leaned on the not-so-high bedside cabinet to eat her chicken leg rice.

Xu Tianyi looked at the millet porridge in his hands. The porridge still carried steam; he felt there were people who didn’t mind his physical condition, giving him a sense of hope.
