Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 137: Chapter 126: School Anniversary (Part 4)

”Then let’s vote. I’ll write the projects on the blackboard, and everyone will come up and make a mark with chalk under the project they support, writing a ’yes’ character,” Pei Yuhao said as he saw that really no one wanted to sign up for individual projects and reluctantly wrote the group projects ’chorus’ and ’poetry recitation’ on the blackboard.

Luo Qianqian’s mouth twitched, with thirty people in the class, aren’t you afraid that the final result will be the same?

The result was not as Luo Qianqian expected. The chorus only got three votes, because the poetry recitation did not need much preparation, just reading from the script, so it won most people’s support.

”Now let’s decide on the recitation piece. Does anyone have any good suggestions?” Pei Yuhao nodded his head, erased the choices on the blackboard, looked down, and said to Xia Qi, ”You’ll be in charge of selecting the musical accompaniment.”

Xia Qi nodded, waiting for the final piece to be settled before deciding on the accompaniment.

”’Facing the Sea, With Spring Blossoms’, ’Dawn’, and ’Youth’ are all good,” Li Qi said after pondering for a moment.

”But overall, aren’t they still not impressive enough?” Pei Yuhao shook his head and looked at Luo Qianqian, ”Top student, what do you suggest?”

”’Song of Water’ is a must-learn piece and simple. Everyone can basically memorize it, and adding an English version would be impressive. The accompaniment is easy too; traditional style is suitable,” Luo Qianqian blinked and stood up to express her opinion.

”Do you think this is Class One or something? Memorizing and in English? Can’t you be a bit self-aware?” Wang Wei was clearly annoyed by Luo Qianqian; he had been quiet until Luo Qianqian spoke and then started to interrupt.

Luo Qianqian looked at Wang Wei and scoffed coldly, ”I am very self-aware; I know my own level. If you can’t handle it, then read it yourself. No one is going to despise you for it. It’s not my fault that’s your level.” Saying this, Luo Qianqian shifted her gaze back to Pei Yuhao’s face: ”I’ll say it again, this is my opinion, not the class’s decision. If you have a problem, bring it up with the class president, and don’t be so rude as to interrupt others.”

”I think it’s quite good, and it’s simple,” Xia Qi glanced at Wang Wei and then looked away, agreeing with Luo Qianqian’s view.

”Does anyone else have any other opinions?” Pei Yuhao nodded and continued to wait for someone else to speak, but after looking around, no more words were said.

”Then let’s go with that. The Chinese textbook has it; everyone should take a look and practice it in the next two days. Luo Qianqian, what do you propose we do about the English section?” Pei Yuhao nodded, looking at Luo Qianqian again.

Luo Qianqian really didn’t want to speak anymore; she wasn’t a class officer, why keep asking her? But seeing Pei Yuhao’s awkward smile, she still stood up: ”Find a few who are good at English, with standard pronunciation. This kind of masterpiece has an English translation. Our class has thirty people, so just find six, three boys and three girls, to memorize the English part.”

Seeing the expectant look on Xia Qi’s face, Luo Qianqian reluctantly continued, ”Memorize the first and second parts; it’s not too much to handle. Three people can recite one sentence each—that way, the memorization load is even less.”

”The top ten of the last English test, stand up,” Pei Yuhao nodded, and just as Luo Qianqian was about to sit down, a sentence blocked her path. Even though her English grades were not high, she still made the list.

”Why are there only two boys... Who’s the eleventh, boy or girl?” Pei Yuhao frowned as he counted the number of students standing up.

”Me.” Pei Yutian raised his hand, helpless. He hadn’t expected to be overlooked like this.

”Then it’s you. There are so many girls; let’s see, Li Qi, Shen Yan, Xia Qi, that’s enough,” Pei Yuhao glanced at Luo Qianqian’s height and then at her refusal to be part of it. After considering her oral skills, he chose a few people he knew better from primary school.

”Xia Qi won’t do, just like you didn’t count yourself. We need two anchors for the narration,” Luo Qianqian said lightly after sitting down, which made Pei Yuhao roll his eyes involuntarily.

”Then you’ll fill in,” Pei Yuhao looked at the shocked expression on Luo Qianqian’s face and inexplicably felt better, saying, ”The English section stays after class. Xia Qi, as the English class representative, remember to go to the English teacher for the English version and the accompaniment. Alright, this class meeting is over. Self-study time.”

”...Did I just dig my own grave?” Luo Qianqian looked at Li Qi with an innocent face.

Li Qi covered her mouth to hide her snicker: ”Very likely.”

”What’s that poetry introduction thing you mentioned, Luo Qianqian?” Pei Yuhao quietly asked Luo Qianqian as soon as he got back to his seat.

”...It’s just the introduction, you know, like the narration in a play? It’s like that, it’s basically the host of the entire poetry recital,” Luo Qianqian leaned back in her chair and explained softly.

”Xia Qi and me? Can we do it?” Pei Yuhao’s tone was full of trepidation.

”If not the class president, then who?” Luo Qianqian said irritably.

”What’s gotten into her?” Pei Yuhao, puzzled by Luo Qianqian’s anger, asked his younger brother.

Pei Yutian lazily glanced at his brother and then muttered, ”Don’t ask me, I don’t know,” as he lowered his head again.

”What’s with you two?” Pei Yuhao, seeing that neither his brother nor Luo Qianqian were giving him pleasant looks, felt utterly lost. He hadn’t done anything, had he?

Li Qi turned around with a mocking smile on his face, ”They’re all blaming you for that English assignment.”

”Huh? Just that? Talk about being petty...” Pei Yuhao exclaimed in surprise, then pleasingly nudged his brother’s arm. Seeing his brother didn’t respond, he poked Luo Qianqian’s back again.

Luo Qianqian decisively moved her chair forward and sat quietly without looking back.

”Li Qi...” Pei Yuhao looked at Li Qi, who was enjoying the scene as a bystander, with an innocent, wronged expression.

”Don’t look at me, I’m just watching,” Li Qi quickly waved his hands and turned back around to read his novel.

”Luo Qianqian, do you think you can write one of those poetry introductions?” Pei Yuhao asked in a mock-serious tone, all righteous.

”Substitute someone else for me and then I’ll help you,” Luo Qianqian rolled her eyes and snapped back to attention, ”My English isn’t that good.”

”Stop pretending, I’ve seen your paper. You filled in the multiple-choice questions in the sequence of ABCD, as if I’m an idiot,” Pei Yuhao rolled his eyes. He had thought Luo Qianqian was bad at English and had found some leverage, but upon seeing the paper, he realized it was all just a bluff.

”How did you know that?” Luo Qianqian frowned and looked at Pei Yuhao with an added hint of weirdness in her expression.

”I distributed the papers, are you stupid?” Pei Yuhao glared at her, then immediately put on a pitiful look, ”Come on, help me out, see it through to the end.”

”Then it’s settled, you can’t regret taking my on-duty days later, and if you lie you’ll have to swallow a thousand needles,” Luo Qianqian threatened Pei Yuhao with a vicious stare.

Pei Yuhao promptly agreed, ”Okay, okay, no problem.”

”Class president, are you not going to deal with what Luo Qianqian said?” The classroom was already chaotic, and Wang Wei’s voice, magnified several times, quickly drew the attention of the entire class.

Luo Qianqian rolled her eyes and ignored him.

Seeing Luo Qianqian turning back to her book, Pei Yuhao said, ”Didn’t you speak? This is a self-study period, and asking questions isn’t forbidden. If you’re so capable, you take care of it.”
