Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 140: Chapter 129: Sports Meet

The biggest event this month has to be the sports festival and the golden week holiday that follows. Holidays are the happiest time for students, aside from the holiday homework.

Sports committee member Wang Tianlei stood at the podium looking at the largely empty registration forms and spoke with righteous indignation, ”Before the holiday entertainment activities, everyone should be more enthusiastic, otherwise I’ll start calling names for participation, okay? We still need one more for the long-distance race and one for shot put, and for the girls other than a 200 meters and a 100 meters, there are no participants.”

”Shot put? I’ll do it.” Sui Jiao immediately raised her hand.

Wang Tianlei nodded with satisfaction and continued, ”Girls, take the initiative, support my work.”

Luo Qianqian lazily watched Wang Tianlei, who was passionately speaking on the podium, and silently sighed in her heart: Such youth, that’s what youth is like. She then closed her homework book, lay on the desk, and continued to watch the excitement – sports festivals and such were just not meant to trouble a child like her.

”Qianqian, are you participating?” Li Qi asked in a low voice, looking at Wang Tianlei on the podium with a bit of compassion.

”Look at these skinny arms and legs of mine, what can I participate in without being laughed at?” Luo Qianqian quickly shook her head, joking about her own participation.

”Class leaders, Li Qi, Xia Qi, you take the lead.” Pei Yuhao laughed behind after hearing Luo Qianqian’s words and then spoke indifferently.

Li Qi turned around abruptly and glared at Pei Yuhao, ”What have you signed up for, talking about class leaders taking the lead?”

”Let me think, maybe long-distance running, sprinting, high jump? I’ve signed up for the maximum of three events.” Pei Yuhao looked at Li Qi’s outraged expression and couldn’t help feeling good.

”... Wang Tianlei, 200 meters, Luo Qianqian and I.” Li Qi raised her hand, stood up to speak, then sat down.

Luo Qianqian’s eyes widened in shock: ”Old Li, do we have a feud? I’m still a child, you know.”

”Help me finish last, so I don’t lose too embarrassingly. You’re just a kid after all.” Li Qi cheekily consoled, ”I’ll compensate you with some good food.”

”... Wang Tianlei, can I cancel?” Luo Qianqian raised her hand pitifully, all the while rolling her eyes at Li Qi.

”It’s already written down, don’t worry, even if you come in last, we won’t laugh at you.” Wang Tianlei blinked earnestly, rejecting Luo Qianqian’s request.

”Li Qi, if you don’t bring enough for me to eat, you’re dead meat, hmph.” Luo Qianqian huffed and turned her head towards the window, looking gloomily at the trees by the playground.

”How much can you eat? I’ll make sure it’s enough.” Li Qi pulled at Luo Qianqian’s sleeve, trying to appease her.

— Sports festival separator —

”Luo Qianqian, stop eating, hurry up, you’re up next, you’re in the first group.” Li Qi, hearing the broadcast, quickly pulled Luo Qianqian, who was still snacking.

”Anyway, I’m going to be last, what’s the rush?” Luo Qianqian rolled her eyes, put down her snack, wiped her hands clean, took a couple of sips of water before leisurely following Li Qi for the check-in.

”Number one is so handsome!!!!!”

”Handsome guy, go for it!!!!!”

”Number 9, go for it!!!!!”

”Number 1, go for it!!!!!”

She had just walked onto the field when she saw a group of girls from all three grades crowded around the track.

”Who’s that, so popular?” Luo Qianqian looked curiously toward the track, then was speechless when she saw that the person in the lead, wearing number 9, and the one in second place, wearing number 1, were acquaintances – number 9 was their class leader Pei Yuhao, and number 1 was the sports committee member Wang Tianlei.

”Are they handsome?” Li Qi also looked at the two with embarrassment, unable to discern their appeal.

”Probably their ranking is what’s handsome,” Luo Qianqian quipped, and turned to head to the check-in area.

”In the junior boys’ 200 meters preliminaries, first place from Class 1-9, Pei Yuhao, second place from Class 1-9, Wang Tianlei...” the announcement came through the speakers shortly afterward.

”There’s a final for the 200 meters?” Luo Qianqian’s eyes widened in surprise, not realizing there were so many heats. But then, considering nearly twenty classes, it made sense; otherwise, why would an event, not that numerous, take two days? And many events were happening simultaneously.

”What’s there to be afraid of, we’re just making up the numbers, how could we possibly make it to the finals?” Li Qi was indifferent, having a clear understanding of his own abilities.

Luo Qianqian pondered for a moment and thought the same; in her past life, she had never been good at sports, so there was nothing to worry about.

When Luo Qianqian stood on the track, she was still so nervous she felt like crying, dressed in number 5’s race outfit, looking at the height of her classmates on both sides, and wanting to cry without tears – others took two steps where she would need three, right?

”Qianqian, go for it.” Li Qi was in the next heat, standing by the track to cheer Luo Qianqian on, but looking at the height difference between her and the others, he couldn’t help but want to laugh – this must be what an Oreo feels like, little cream, lots of cookie.

”Your class ran out of people? They sent a little kid to run?” A girl with short hair next to Luo Qianqian snorted. However, since her tone wasn’t friendly, Luo Qianqian did not respond.

”Little One, come on!!!” What’s up with this voice, and why is it so loud? Everyone around is laughing, and Luo Qianqian wants to cry without tears as she looks towards her class’s direction. Where did the class president find that megaphone? Who’s being called Little One now, making fun of shorter people as if they have no dignity? Luo Qianqian, with her face red, half from shame and half from embarrassment, just wants to finish running and silence that megaphone. So when the starting gun fires, Luo Qianqian dashes off without a second thought, cheeks flushed, soon overtaking more than half of the runners.

Pei Yuhao, upon seeing this scene, gets even more excited and yells into the megaphone with gusto: ”Luo Qianqian, keep it up, Little One, keep it up!!!”

Luo Qianqian, hearing his voice, gets even more annoyed, speeding up, thinking that she definitely needs to make Pei Yuhao pay later. She swiftly passes two more people, reaching the second position to the finish line amidst everyone’s stunned looks, then she strips off her race outfit and quickly runs back to the class: ”Pei Yuhao, can’t you give me some face? What’s with calling me Little One? I’m still going to grow taller, okay?”

However... the megaphone wasn’t turned off, and the words Luo Qianqian uttered in anger, quavering voice, were heard loud and clear by everyone around.

Luo Qianqian stands there dumbfounded, glares at Pei Yuhao, picks up her bag full of books, turns, and leaves. There are no chairs in the classroom, but there are always some in the library, hmph, if I can’t provoke, at least I can hide. She runs away, eyes brimming with tears.

Pei Yuhao is stunned for a moment, then quickly yells out: ”Luo Qianqian, where are you going? Li Qi is about to start!”

Idiot. Luo Qianqian snorts in her heart and ignores Pei Yuhao.

”Bro, you’re in trouble,” Pei Yutian says solemnly as he watches Luo Qianqian leave: ”You owe her a favor and gave her a nickname on top of that, I predict Luo Qianqian won’t bother with you anymore.”

At this moment, Luo Qianqian stands at the locked library door, wanting to cry without tears. Why are they doing this to her?

She makes a call to complain. Her brother is in class, and her older brothers are not available. Only Luo Yanran has nothing to do all day, and she hasn’t heard of him being busy recently, so she decides to call him. Luo Qianqian takes out her phone and dials Luo Yanran’s number.

The phone rings for a long time before someone answers. A hesitant voice says: ”Hello, the phone owner is currently unavailable.”

”Then who are you?” Luo Qianqian is taken aback. The voice sounds nice, not like Sun Zhichao’s.

Xu Tianyi hesitantly looks at the phone with the contact name ’Little Sweetie’: ”I’m his friend, should he return I’ll let him give you a call back?”

”No need, I was just bored and wanted to vent to him. By the time he remembers me, I’ll have gone home and complained to my brother already.” Luo Qianqian spreads her hands, ready to hang up.

”Are you Luo Qianqian?” Xu Tianyi is surprised but immediately speaks up.

”Yeah, didn’t Luo Yanran save my name?” Luo Qianqian blinks, wondering if her fourth brother labeled her as ’Er Gouzi’?

”...It’s saved as ’Little Sweetie’; I’m Xu Tianyi.” Xu Tianyi hesitates a moment before answering truthfully, then softly asks, ”I heard you started junior high?”

Luo Qianqian freezes. Isn’t this the voice of the Scholar God? Just a simple transmission of electromagnetic waves, and how much it changed? Scholar God, he is indeed the person Luo Qianqian admires the most in real life.

”Yes.” Luo Qianqian is startled. What’s with Scholar God? Does he just want to keep her company in a chat? That’s not right, isn’t it supposed to be class time? So she asks, ”Scholar God, sir, isn’t it class time right now?”

”Oh, I’ve taken some time off school,” Xu Tianyi says, startled: ”What Scholar God, sir...”

”Look, someone like me is already a study master, aren’t you supposed to be a god for being even more amazing? The journey to godhood is extremely arduous; so far, you’re the only living one I’ve seen.” Luo Qianqian blinks and says softly.

”Pff, you really say some nonsense.” Xu Tianyi chuckles, shaking his head, then suddenly remembers: ”Luo Qianqian, is your family from a coastal city?”

”Yeah, oceans, seagulls, seafood, shells, plenty of them. Do you want some?” Luo Qianqian hugs her bag to her chest and sits down on the floor against the wall.

Xu Tianyi’s mind races: ”Which school and class are you in?”

”First Middle School, Class 1-9, are you going to send me something tasty?” Luo Qianqian blinks, her face a mix of confusion and anticipation.

”Hmm, we’ll talk about it later. Is this your number? Do you always carry it with you and keep it on?” Xu Tianyi checks the number, memorizes it, then asks.

”Most of the time, yeah. Are you going to call me?” Luo Qianqian doesn’t quite grasp the meaning behind Xu Tianyi’s words.

Xu Tianyi laughs lightly: ”Maybe. There’s someone I really want to meet, just not sure if I’ll get the chance.” His gaze falls on a trinket on the desk, lingering for a while before speaking up again: ”I’ll send you a message in a bit to save my number. Don’t miss it when I call because you don’t recognize the number,” he says with a laugh.

”No problem, if Scholar God commands, I shall obey,” Luo Qianqian chuckles, but promptly sees someone coming down the hallway toward her, and quickly adds, ”I’ve got someone here, I need to hang up, we’ll talk later.”

Xu Tianyi gives a wry smile as he hears the ’beep beep beep’ on the line. What does she mean by needing to hang up?

Luo Qianqian sees Li Qi’s anxious figure approaching and quickly gestures, ”Hey you, I’m over here.”

”What’s with you, kid?” Li Qi hurries over to Luo Qianqian: ”Everyone’s looking for you; the rematch has already started.”

”Then I’ll just forfeit,” Luo Qianqian says nonchalantly, as if it has nothing to do with her. She doesn’t want to continue participating anyway.

Thus, Class 1-9’s girls forfeited the rematch and missed out on the finals.

The Sports Day ended with the class ranking third from last for the entire grade, even worse than the creative award from the school anniversary.
