Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 134: Chapter 123: School Anniversary (Part 1)

Luo Qianqian, who didn’t write the reading questions for the Chinese language class, still managed to come in first thanks to her writing skills. Luo Qianqian wanted to cry but had no tears,

Her English teacher didn’t praise her, but her scores were still not low. When looking at the class, her total scores for the three subjects were around the fiftieth in her grade. Luo Qianqian breathed a sigh of relief; that should be inconspicuous enough, right?

Xiu Xian was smiling at his classmates early in the morning, which made everyone underneath too scared to speak, fearing something might go wrong.

”Do you all know what day is coming up?” Xiu Xian asked with a smile.

”National Day! Holidays!” the crowd below shouted in unison.

”Er, er, er...before National Day...” Xiu Xian was a bit embarrassed; indeed, the Golden Week of October was just around the corner.

”The sports event!” Wang Tianlei shouted.

”The week before that...” Xiu Xian was very embarrassed. No one in the class knew, right?

”It’s not an exam, is it...” Li Qi asked quietly, his face turning pale.

”No, no, it’s the Arts Festival. Don’t you know? Our First Middle School’s 60th anniversary Arts Festival?” Xiu Xian looked at the clueless students below and thought to himself, didn’t he mention it before the school started?

”Oh...” The interest from below was lacking. While the school prospectus did mention it, it only described every class performing acts, nothing special—just like the New Year’s parties in primary school, so the enthusiasm was lacking. Those interested were mainly students with special skills, those wanting to showcase themselves, and class officers like the arts committee responsible for the event.

”So, our class will be in the hands of the class president and arts committee. The teacher looks forward to your performance.” Xiu Xian said insincerely—how could he expect anything from such a lax attitude?

”Let’s have a class meeting during the self-study session this afternoon,” Pei Yuhao said as he stood up, then sat back down, still holding a book of Olympiad math problems.

Luo Qianqian was indifferent; after all, she was young. She just needed to earnestly listen to others’ opinions.

”As long as it’s not an exam, it’s fine.” Li Qi used his textbook as a cover to read a novel below his desk and didn’t forget to entrust Luo Qianqian, ”Keep an eye on the teacher for me.”

Luo Qianqian’s mouth twitched. She wasn’t even proudly listening to the class; how come Li Qi wasn’t listening?

”Luo Qianqian, help think of some ideas. It seems that people in our class aren’t very enthusiastic,” Pei Yuhao also whispered, using his book as cover.

Luo Qianqian leaned back in her chair and shielded her mouth with a book, asking softly, ”Big class president, are we that close? Can you not pick on the kids? Go draft those who want to perform.”

”A bottle of milk and two candy bars,” Pei Yuhao negotiated without even looking at Luo Qianqian, continuing behind the cover of the book.

”No need, but I have a condition. Agree to it, and I’ll help you,” Luo Qianqian said with a smirk. Having participated in so many school anniversaries and cultural festivals in her previous life, was she afraid of not being able to come up with a script?

”Name it, as long as it’s not excessive,” Pei Yutian said, looking at his older brother chatting happily with Luo Qianqian, and leaned in to listen carefully.

”You see my skinny arms and legs; if I could be excused from...” Duty days would be fantastic.

”Luo Qianqian!” Xiu Xian, seeing the only student in the class who could impress him whispering with others, couldn’t stand it and accurately threw a piece of chalk, landing on Luo Qianqian’s book.

”Here.” Luo Qianqian stood up reflexively, scaring Pei Yuhao into quickly sitting up straight and holding his book with a serious demeanor.

”Where was I?” After watching his deskmate Li Qi sneakily stuff a novel back under the desk, and with no hope of assistance from those seated behind, he simply looked at his book and said:

”Wasn’t it a practice problem?” Li Qi had an innocent look on his face, leaving Xiu Xian with no outlet for his irritation.

”Pay attention in class, no talking allowed.” Xiu Xian could only wave his hand and let Luo Qianqian sit down.

Pei Yuhao, seeing Xiu Xian’s gaze, also quickly clamped his mouth shut and dared not speak. After pondering for a moment, he tore off a sheet of paper: If you help me solve this huge problem, I’ll agree to do something for you, deal?

The note then floated gently onto Luo Qianqian’s desk. Luo Qianqian, seeing the message, curled her lips into a smile and wrote back two words: Deal.

She then began to contemplate. For the art festival and such, the most hassle-free and collective option was definitely a chorus; with so many people in class wanting to stand out, a solo shouldn’t be a problem either. Learning musical instruments was also quite popular, she could even play ”Two Tigers” on the piano herself. Looking around, there were plenty of beautiful girls, so dance was also feasible. Drama was too much trouble, but still not a bad choice. Skits or cross-talk could be staged too, though she worried Pei Yuhao wouldn’t be able to organize people for that. Going for an idiosyncratic approach, a fashion show could work, or employing a theme of recycling waste was also a good call. Classic fairy tale and literature plays were viable too, they were more spectacular than dramas and didn’t require as much acting.

When class was dismissed, Luo Qianqian turned around and shared her thoughts with Pei Yuhao.

Pei Yuhao looked at Luo Qianqian with a strange expression and said, ”I can organize it, but the key issue is, look, there’s no enthusiasm in our class, right?”

”That’s your and the art committee member’s problem, not mine. I’m just here to give suggestions.” Luo Qianqian raised her eyebrows. ”The suggestion is made, from now on, as long as it’s our class, you’ll be stuck with my classroom duties.”

”Help me out a bit more, send the Buddha to the west,” Pei Yuhao pulled on his deskmate’s younger brother.

Pei Yutian, seeing his brother’s troubled look, hurriedly said, ”Qianqian, look, we’ve just joined this class and don’t know much yet. We’re friends now, you can’t just abandon us in our time of need, right?”

”...Have you guys died? Only then would I be not saving a life...” Luo Qianqian was momentarily speechless and turned away, but then Li Qi, her deskmate, caught her hand and whispered:

”I want to perform in a play. There was such a scene in the novel I was reading just now, where the lead actor and actress fall in love because of a play.” Li Qi had a hopeful look, and Luo Qianqian’s face fell instantly.

She turned to Pei Yuhao: ”Is our class made up of people who got in through the back door?”

Pei Yuhao’s face turned red, and he stammered, ”Not really, some didn’t have the grades and made up for it with donations. There are also relatives of leaders who couldn’t be turned away to save face. But you’re an exception.”

”...Then go and say it, if we’re bad in grades, we can’t be worse in competitions. If we can’t beat them in exams, we must outdo the other classes in the school anniversary cultural festival and sports day to not be looked down upon.” Luo Qianqian rolled her eyes and spoke bluntly.

”Luo Qianqian.” Seeing a figure outside the classroom door, Luo Qianqian didn’t bother with Pei Yuhao’s expression and went straight out of the classroom.

”Gu Yanzhi, what’s up? Brought me some AD calcium?” Seeing the Wahaha in Gu Yanzhi’s hand, Luo Qianqian chuckled lightly.

Gu Yanzhi nodded, handing over the AD calcium to Luo Qianqian: ”I was a bit busy yesterday, are you free today? Can you explain some problems to me?” Gu Yanzhi chuckled, without a hint of embarrassment.

”Sure, shall we go to the library? By the way, what’s your class preparing for the school anniversary?” Luo Qianqian said with resignation, ”I’m even thinking of having everyone in our class bring some snacks to sell and roam around pretending that’s a performance.”

”Are you the art committee member?” Gu Yanzhi raised an eyebrow slightly, ”Our class was originally going to do a chorus, but the homeroom teacher shot it down. Now we’ve decided on a drama.”

”I’m just an ordinary nobody. Come find me at noon, class is about to start. Thanks for the AD calcium.” Luo Qianqian glanced at the clock hanging in the classroom and spoke softly.

”Okay, see you at noon.”
