My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1400: Chapter 1210: I Don’t Hate You

”Child, now that you’ve heard all of this, do you truly hate me? Hate me for being a father who treated your mother so cruelly, who drove her away from my side in an unforgivable way? I acted reluctantly and unwillingly, yet I still ended up hurting those who saw me as part of their lives. I don’t understand how I walked out of the house at that time, nor do I understand the pain I went through that made everything so difficult.”

”Dad, aren’t there still many things you’re hiding from me? Everything you say skips around—do you really think I’m a fool? I know some things are hard to speak about, but I only want to know the truth about everything. Can you not hide anything from your own son? Please, I’m asking you!”

Zhang Yichen feels proud to have such a son, yet at the same time afraid that his son’s intelligence surpasses his own, which feels like a blow to his self-esteem. But how could he not be proud of such a brilliantly intelligent child who is his own son?

Despite understanding deep down that no matter what mistakes he makes, his grandfather will never blame him, always seeing him as his greatest pride, Yichen wonders if that should make him feel secure without a care?

Is he really to repeatedly hurt his grandfather? No one can comprehend how tough these years have been nor how difficult it was for his grandfather to raise him. Why should he hurt his grandfather repeatedly just because he loves him, treats him like a treasure, committing so many heartless deeds?

Seeing his grandfather leave the hospital happily brings him immense joy, even knowing how much his grandfather suffered in the hospital. Yet he often disregards his grandfather’s feelings, insisting on keeping him there to heal completely.

Deep inside, Yichen knows better than anyone the sorrow and pain of losing a loved one, the despair that cannot be altered. The moment of losing a loved one signifies a change in his world; he will have one less person to love him, one less beloved by his side. No one wants such things to happen to them. People are selfish, wanting their loved ones by their side forever. But will fate grant such an opportunity? Never.

Old Master Zhang sees his grandson troubled before him and, as a grandfather, how could he feel good? But reality remains ever-present; ultimately, he can’t let his loved ones be harmed due to his affairs, and his heart cannot bear it.

Though he knows the efforts his grandson has made over the years, seeing him feign happiness in front of him tells him his grandson has chosen a different path. No one is born to walk such a path; sometimes, choosing a path is due to life’s constraints, having no choice but to tread it without retreat.

”Child, your current achievements make Grandpa truly proud. I never imagined the child I raised could achieve such success. I’ve never thought you are much stronger than your father, who never changed anything for Grandpa, but you’re different; you’d give up things you don’t want to for Grandpa’s happiness. Knowing you can do this is already a comfort; it shouldn’t selfishly demand you to abandon things you’re unwilling to let go. Some things simply cannot be let go of by mere words.”
