My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1383: Chapter 1205: Obstinacy

Persistently waiting for someone is a form of perseverance, also an experience of life that can temper a person’s character.

During their conversation, Zhang Zhentian was unknowingly standing outside the hospital room, eavesdropping. He, upon hearing his wife speak such heartless words, angrily pushed the door open and stormed into the room. When Old Master Zhang saw his son barging into the room so rashly, he wondered when his son would ever grow up? Why does he always act like a child, entering others’ rooms without understanding reason, not realizing how impolite this makes them seem?

When Xia Jing saw Zhang Zhentian enter, she was stunned. She hadn’t expected someone to be standing outside the door. If she had known, she definitely wouldn’t have spoken so bluntly. This would only worsen their relationship, making it irreparable. But what’s done is done; what can she do now? Can she really admit fault when it wasn’t her mistake? Would saying those things make him believe her? She could hardly believe this was happening.

”When did you start standing outside the door? Don’t you know eavesdropping on someone else’s conversation is very impolite? Don’t you realize that by doing so, you make me feel like you don’t take me seriously? If you truly care about me, you could openly ask me whatever you want to know face-to-face, rather than eavesdrop outside. Don’t you know this makes me look down on you?”

”If I openly ask you, will you clearly tell me the whole truth? There’s no need to come up with ways to deceive me. If not for this, how could I ever understand what you’re truly thinking inside? Without eavesdropping, how could I know your real thoughts?

Your heart clearly hates me, yet you act indifferent in front of me. But in front of my father, you reveal everything you feel. Am I not worthy of your trust that even speaking the truth is so difficult? What harm would it do to meet my gaze and speak a truth while standing in front of me? Would that kill you?”

”Since that’s the case and you’ve already heard so much, let me make things clear in front of Dad now. You should know yourself that what you’ve done may not mean much to you, but it’s hurtful to me. You never considered what I wanted; you only thought what you could give me was what I desired. But do you understand how I’ve lived through these many years, holding you as precious? Yet in the end, you treat me like this. How can I continue living with you for a lifetime? I’m no saint; I also need a relationship, one with genuine feelings without any ulterior motives. Can you offer that?

Ask yourself honestly; if you can’t provide such a relationship, what right do you have to demand me to stay by your side? I’ve always compromised, thinking that if I did, one day you’d acknowledge my love for you. But in truth, is that what happened? Did you see my love for you? Again and again, you hurt me—is this your idea of love?

The human heart is made of flesh. We’ve ended up like this; nothing we say can bring back the past. I used to think that being with you, I could give up everything and ask for nothing. But in the end, I realized I couldn’t do it. You can think of me as a vain woman, because you already suspect I’m with you for money. Without trust, why should we force this relationship?

Do you know? Being with you constantly makes me question my choices. I don’t know if choosing to be with you was right or wrong. I’ve been caught in this painful dilemma between right and wrong. You’ve never experienced this kind of pain, so how could you understand how troubled my heart is? If you truly love me, if there’s even a trace of guilt or love for me, then please let go...”

Zhang Zhentian never realized that Xia Jing had always intended to give him up. Yet why did he persist in being with her? After giving so much being with her, hearing these words, is this the result? No one could have imagined such heart-wrenching results. Once, he thought that as long as he could be with his beloved, he would give up everything at any cost. But now he sees it was all just a mirage.

”If there’s something I’ve done wrong, please tell me clearly, instead of treating me with this mindset. Do you know doing so only brings me heartache?

If you really don’t want to be with me, then tell me clearly. Stop giving me hope only to let me fall into despair again and again. That kind of pain you wouldn’t want to experience, so why impose it on me? Do you think this is fair to me, to our many years of married life? I love you so much, consider you my lifelong partner. But are you someone who’s always planning to leave me far behind?

You heartless woman, how can you be so ruthless, so cruel? I love you so much, yet you hurt me like this. Our years as husband and wife mean so little to you, as you bury my love for you. You make me see you as just a bad woman. Though I’ve been so persistent in being with you, you hurt me with such thoughts. Why should I persist for you? Rest assured, I won’t anymore!”

”I already told you not to persist for a girl like me. It’s you who foolishly...what’s to stop you from doing so, huh? If you hate me so much, then let’s never have contact anymore, as if we never met, from now on, as strangers—not familiar at all! Since the start, I’ve never intended to continue living with you. It was your own forceful hold on me that wouldn’t let me leave. Is that my fault too?

I’m making it clear today: I’m cutting all ties with you, we’ll have absolutely nothing to do with each other anymore...”

Repeated disappointment can change a person beyond recognition. People come and go, yet the bustle fades into nothing.
