My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1373: Chapter 1196: What Is Love Anyway

Truly loved the wrong person, love isn’t about not being able to live without you--two people must support each other to last.

That’s right, everyone has a different perspective on things, so the choices they make vary as well. Every path you choose will determine which road you ultimately take in life.

Sometimes Zhang Yichen feels very lost. He doesn’t even know why he chose this path in the first place. Back then, it was about proving to his parents how strong he was and making them regret abandoning him.

But now that he has achieved something, things that don’t easily come by for ordinary people, he’s become lonely and desolate. His father and mother have also started because of some issues, and he doesn’t know if he should be happy or sad. She once desperately wished for her parents to be punished.

Even being able to abandon a child who is only a month old is something that is simply unforgivable to him.

But now that his parents have actually been punished, why does he only feel heartache instead of happiness? Is it truly the bond of blood? If so, why couldn’t they see how much it hurt to watch him grow step by step back then?

”Dad, I can’t quite understand. Whether you’re happy or not, frankly, as a younger generation, seeing you like this makes my heart quite uneasy. But thinking back to when you so ruthlessly abandoned me, leaving me alone for over twenty years, this punishment seems light to me.

Sometimes you say repeatedly that being forced to abandon me was out of necessity, but just think about what kind of hardship would make you choose to completely abandon a child only a month old?

I really can’t understand what kind of benefit comes from making your child endure such a tormented life—does that truly make your hearts happy?

If you weren’t going to raise me in the first place, why bring me into this world, to suffer such a predicament? Every step I took was so arduous, yet you never saw how hard it was for me.”

Zhang Zhentian knows that some things in his son’s heart will always cast a shadow, there will always be reasons. He can’t completely erase it all; all of this was his choice, leading to this point. He knows that every decision he made caused his son to suffer so much. He watched helplessly as his child underwent devilish training but could only stand in the background without stepping forward.

”Sigh!

You really don’t know? Watching you endure such grueling training pains me as well. I’ve always felt I haven’t paid attention to you from childhood to adulthood, but don’t you know that every action you take is etched deeply in our minds?

We have personally watched as you chose the path you would take, saw you undergo such rigorous training. We’ve seen you step by step build this remarkable life from your own efforts. Do you truly not realize?

I also know that in everyone’s eyes, not just you, your mom and I could never be seen as competent parents. We abandoned you so young, leaving you here to live alone. If it weren’t for grandpa, you would have starved to death long ago!”

”That’s why I can’t understand, what kind of difficulty, what kind of unavoidable circumstance led you down this road to abandon me, making me live such a lonely existence? Are you truly happy because outside, while I endure this hellish training, you stand in the background, never stepping forward, leaving me to repeatedly hope that one day, my parents might return to accompany me!

But I really don’t know whether to choose to forgive you. Why each time I stand expectantly at the door, waiting for the sound of your return, but where are you? You hide behind me time and again, watching my punishing training, yet you are never willing to step forward and look at me. Is it that in your eyes, there’s something wrong with my appearance?

My appearance was given by my parents; it’s not something I can decide.

I pushed myself to become the first smartest person in the world because I want everyone to know that everything I did was worth it. I want everyone for their entire lives to be unable to reach me because only by standing at a different height can I let everyone know the effort and hardships I endured to achieve this success, something they will never understand, because they have their parents’ company and don’t need to work so hard to prove themselves!

But I can’t!”

”Don’t harbor too much resentment in your heart, child. Even if you resent us, resent me as your father—don’t hate your mother!”

”There are some things I don’t want to mention anymore. Since my mother doesn’t want to see you, give her some time. Only by giving her time will you know what you should do to bring her back to your side. Deep down, she still cares about you, I can see it. But her choice to avoid now also has its reasons. She doesn’t know how to face you because of grandpa’s involvement, and because everyone in our family is watching her, making her feel awkward.”

”Don’t worry, I understand. Since I’ve done this, I will choose to give her time. No matter how long it takes, I will keep giving it to her. I’ll wait for her until the day she decides she’s ready to see me!

Even if that day seems indefinitely far away, I’m still willing to lie down and wait. As long as there’s a glimmer of hope, I cannot give up. Grabbing on to the last shred of hope might make my entire life different.

Thank you for today, no matter what, thank you. Thank you for expressing your resentment towards us, thank you for saying the words you’ve always wanted to say in your heart.

You will always be our good son. What you have done has indeed made it so that most people in the world have no way to reach your level, and it has made many children from wealthy families aspire to match you.

Because all of this was caused by us, we exposed you to so much pain, leading you step by step to today. We couldn’t intervene in any of it, could only watch you silently from behind, letting you walk this life alone. We are truly sorry!”

Sometimes, it just feels like the journey between my family and me never ends. Coming and going, and ultimately, we all end up on the same path!
