My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1353: Chapter 1179: Memories That Shatter

Zhang Yichen remembered the silence of his wife before, and he couldn’t understand why he was so heartless back then. She was his true love!

Zhang Yichen had been talking constantly here, not considering his wife. He always thought his wife should be understanding, but during this period, he hadn’t heard her say a single word to him. He couldn’t understand what she was truly thinking deep down, perhaps she felt she had nothing to say to him!

But he remembered that his wife never used to be like this. What happened today? Since the day his parents returned, she hadn’t spoken a single extra word to him.

Could it be that deep down, his wife was unwilling to say anything at all to him anymore? Or did she find even one more word to him to be a torment? He remembered he hadn’t wronged her over the years, always sincerely giving her everything he thought was best. He had given a lot for her, so why had things come to this, and why was he unwilling to exchange even a single word with him?

Zhang Zhentian seemed to have noticed his daughter-in-law’s unusual behavior too. He always thought she was an understanding person and felt that she should interact a bit with him, her father-in-law. But to his surprise, since he returned to this home, she hadn’t spoken to him at all. Even when she did, it was only a few words of casual concern, nothing more.

”Zhihan, what’s wrong? Why don’t you talk to me? Did I do something to upset you? You know Mom and Dad just got back, and I hope this family can live in stability and happiness. I don’t want any more conflicts between us. I find it hard to understand why you are ignoring me, your husband?”

”Yichen, I know you want Mom and Dad back, and I want them back too. I know deep down you’ve always longed for their love, even a little would make you incredibly happy because you’ve lacked so much motherly love over these years!

I’m just like you, I can forgive them for not being by your side these years. But I can’t be indifferent to everything; I’ve seen how much pain you’ve been through. I met you in the deep mountains, standing in front of me, covered in blood, with wounds all over you, yet you didn’t cry, and you managed a smile at me!

At that moment, I felt that you were so smart and strong; why were you so hurt, with blood flowing everywhere, yet you still didn’t cry? I watched you for a long time, hoping your parents would come after you. I naively thought you had quarreled with them and accidentally got left in this valley, and believed they’d soon come to find you, but your answer disappointed me!

You told me you were undergoing training in the mountains and your parents weren’t by your side. At that moment, I felt sad for you. Why are other children’s parents willing to stay with them, while yours want to stay away from you?

You know my parents have always been poor, to the point they couldn’t even afford my schooling, but you know what? They’ve never thought of abandoning me; they always chose to keep me with them, because in their hearts, I’m their child, an inextricable bond of kinship. But you, what have you gained over these years? You got nothing, didn’t even know your parents’ whereabouts, just blindly repeated training to numb yourself with devil-like methods.

You think as long as you don’t think about these things, you can pretend they never happened, but you forget some things cannot be forgotten; they imprint repeatedly in your mind. No matter how you’ve tried to forget or let go, can you really let go of it all? Can you honestly convince yourself that your parents never abandoned you? Deep down, you can’t, because you remember it, and you’ll never forget it.

I’m not saying this with ulterior motives, just that I feel indignant for you. You easily chose to forgive them because of a few simple words; you want to be compensated, so you’re willing to forget all the past injuries. But I can’t!

You’re my husband, my companion, only we know what we’ve been through over these years. How could I let go of all the past hurts for a few simple things? I also understand you need to keep moving forward to have a future, but I don’t want to look ahead. Even if I look ahead multiple times, I can’t return to the past. I waited all these years to be with you, searched the world, and was grateful to have this ending. But your ending makes me so sad. Even when our relationship isn’t good, you’re my beloved, I can’t just watch you live in pain!

Zhang Yichen knew his wife’s actions were for his sake, but some words, though unintended by the speaker, were meaningful to the listener.

”Zhihan, you shouldn’t concern yourself with this anymore. Since I’ve chosen to forgive my parents, it means I have truly accepted it deep down. No matter what mistakes they made before or how they treated me, I ask you not to hold onto this anymore. It will only make things more complicated between us. Can’t you see? We just want a happy and peaceful family, including our child. Think about her; you know she’s lived the same life as I have. How can you bear to watch your husband suffer and let your child suffer the same fate? As a mother and a wife, your duty is to protect your family from any harm!

I believe you can let go of what I can, because I’m in your heart. I don’t believe you would cruelly watch your little family get hurt...”

The wounds won’t heal as long as his wife isn’t back. It’s a form of pain.
