My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1386: Chapter 1208: That Moment

The New Year passed by silently. Zhang Yichen felt that regardless of whether his wife could return to this home, he must always spend this occasion well with his family, no matter if she would ultimately come back to him or not. He believed he should take good care of those around him and not let those people suffer heavy harm and shock because of them again. Perhaps every decision he made in the past was wrong, but as long as he could be happy and joyful, what else was there to fear?

Zhang Ni saw his father come downstairs in high spirits and couldn’t believe if this was still his father. Why had his dad changed so much? In the past, his father would never smile with him in such circumstances. Today, his father seemed like a different person. Could it be that he had figured things out and no longer stubbornly sought his wife as before?

Even if his dad gave up, he wouldn’t. After all, she is his mother, who gave birth to him, raised him, and gave him life.

Seeing how happy his dad was, he couldn’t bear to say anything that would strike him. He knew well that his mother might not have a chance to return to this home and might not even be alive in this world anymore, but he couldn’t bring himself to let his dad suffer the same blow again.

”Nai’er, you’re up. Dad’s in a great mood today. Let’s go out and have fun. Where do you want to go? The world is so big. Dad wants to take the time to go on a nice trip with you.”

Zhang Ni was stunned hearing his father’s words. Were these words from his dad? How splendid and popular he used to be, yet why did he suddenly change so drastically? For the first time, he spoke to him so kindly, and he couldn’t believe it was his dad.

Zhang Yichen seemed to understand the questions in his son’s mind. He felt that he had lived a mess in the past. For the sake of business interests, he abandoned much to prove himself. He did prove himself eventually, but in the end, what did he truly gain? He lost his family, his wife, and all he once held dear, including his broken family.

He never wanted such an ending. What he wished for was so simple, yet everything contradicted his wishes, making him the most unforgivable person in others’ hearts. How could he seek forgiveness and peace for the mistakes he made?

”Child, don’t look at me like that. You know how wretched my life once was. Even if I became a world overlord and could monopolize the global economy, in my eyes, I never got what I wanted. Isn’t what I wanted so ordinary, and didn’t you know?

But look at what I ended up with. I lost my love, my happy and warm family. I searched the world, yet I couldn’t find a trace of her. Have you ever thought that deep down, I also suffer? I can’t relieve the pain within. I long for her to return, even for just one day, it would make me happy, wouldn’t it? But did I achieve that? No.

Perhaps I caused her harm once, making her want to escape for a lifetime, never wanting to return to me. Every time I close my eyes, it’s filled with the scenes of her desperately pleading with me. I understand what I did to her. I understand the harm I caused her. I gave my all, yet I couldn’t mend her shattered heart. I truly know I was wrong, but my mistakes are beyond repair.”

Zhang Yichen returned to that day when he coldly and heartlessly treated his wife.

...

It turned out that even now, this man before him still believed she chose to be with him for money. Why do people always refuse to trust each other? If there were more trust between them, how could the world become like this, and how could their marriage become so broken? All of this wasn’t because of external interference or manipulation, but because of the lack of trust between husband and wife.
