My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1367: Chapter 1190: Taking Responsibility

No one is a saint, and no one can remain indifferent to everything. After you hurt someone once, you should know that hurting others comes at a heavy price to yourself.

”If you truly want me to accept the reality, then please promise me one request. You might think my request is rude, but I hope you can agree, so I can let you go without regrets, okay? You should understand that even though I made so many mistakes back then, I truly loved you in my heart. I really valued you, but gradually I became numb. I didn’t know why my actions turned out that way, making you disappointed. All these consequences are my fault, I can’t blame anyone else. But I also hope you can give me one more chance; please don’t make everything so complicated, okay?

No matter what request I make later, I just ask that you promise me, even if you think this is the most unreasonable request I’ve ever made, the hardest thing in my life for you to agree to, but I hope you can give me one more chance, a chance to keep you by my side again!”

Xia Jing didn’t understand why Zhang Zhentian would say this to her. He didn’t comprehend a word of it; why ask her to agree to his request or give him another chance to stay by his side? What does this mean?

”I don’t quite understand what you mean?

Why do you want me to agree to your request? If your request is too rude, then why should I agree? In the past, no matter what you requested, I would agree without question, even if you asked me to die in front of you, I would do so willingly. But now I can’t love you like I did before because our love has long since disappeared. You no longer trust me, and I no longer have any role for you! In comparison, you have only used me; ask yourself honestly, do you really love me? If initially, you weren’t looking to gain your freedom, would you have chosen to be with me? I know deep down that I lack so much compared to you. I know my family background can’t compare to yours. You have a wealthy father who would sacrifice everything for you, giving you all his assets. But you chose freedom over being with me, pushing me into an abyss and making everyone think I’m unreasonable, that it’s because of me you abandoned your biological father. But is that really the case? Did you really give up your father and inheritance because of me? It’s not. Ask yourself if all the mistakes you’ve made have nothing to do with me? I have taken the blame for many things because of you, and when you once again made me your scapegoat, I knew that once I lost my use, you would kick me away heartlessly, but I never thought that day would come so quickly. That time, my heart was thoroughly broken by you. You never gave me what I wanted; I only wanted a simple and peaceful happy life, but in the end, you shattered all my dreams!

Now that it’s come to this point, you make such outrageous requests of me again, why should I agree? Just because we lived together for over ten years doesn’t mean I must unconditionally agree to all your demands. You are not a saint and certainly not the person I care about now; I can’t just give up everything for you like before.

I’ll make you truly understand, hearts do change, and when someone becomes completely disheartened, no matter what you say, it won’t affect their view of you. The mistakes you’ve made, you have to take responsibility for them yourself; I can no longer pay for your mistakes. I was indeed too naive back then, thinking that unquestioningly being with you would bring me everything I wanted. But in the end, the reality proved otherwise. I’ve accepted that, giving up everything to be with you, but in your heart, you’ve always just used me, thinking your use was love. You deceive yourself; if you had even a bit of love for me, you wouldn’t have done such heartless things to hurt me, nor forced me into a desperate situation. Your heart was truly cruel, turning what we once had into what it is now. The happiness I once desired is now unreachable.

But I still want to hear what your request is, what kind of request it is. If it isn’t too excessive, perhaps I’ll agree. So tell me what your request is now!”

”I have no other request; I just hope you can go with me to the Civil Affairs Bureau to reapply for a marriage certificate. If you can agree to this, I will spend a lifetime not bothering you. Is that okay?”

Xia Jing burst out laughing, thinking this was an enormous joke. Did Zhang Zhentian really think she was an idiot? If she went with him to the Civil Affairs Bureau to remarry, she would legally become his wife again, and if she left, who knows what antics he might pull to cause trouble for her.

”You say I’m foolish, yet you don’t believe it; do you think I’m stupid? You’re doing this to legally make me your wife again, tying me to your side for life so that I can never escape, right? Then if you harass me, you’d have a legal excuse, claiming I’m your wife and you can violate me without any consequences, isn’t that so?

It’s okay if you’re foolish, but don’t think everyone is as foolish as you. Everyone has their dignity; my dignity was abandoned, trampled underfoot by you, and now you should understand that every decision you make carries heavy consequences. Those consequences come from your actions, so why should I unconditionally be with you? I’m sorry, but I really can’t agree to this; it’s too excessive, why should I be with you and agree to such a thing?

Let it go, don’t live with such bitterness anymore...”

”Don’t always think that hurting others doesn’t matter, but you will eventually pay the price. When you discover time and again that reality doesn’t match your expectations, in that instant, you too must be collapsing, realizing how much you’ve lost, yet letting yourself down time and again!”
