The Rebirth of the Fierce Little Cute Girl

Chapter 408: Chapter 407: Mutual Suspicion

Upon hearing Ding Yuejun’s words, Director Xiao felt slightly annoyed, ”Are you suggesting that someone on our side sabotaged the costumes?”

”That’s exactly what I’m thinking.”

At this moment, Ding Yuejun was also in a bad mood. The clothes were perfectly fine when she brought them, but now she was told there was a problem. If she didn’t trust Shao Hui’s friend, she’d suspect this was a trap set for her.

Just as Director Xiao was about to say something in response to Ding Yuejun, a few people came in from outside. Leading them was a stylishly dressed young man. Seeing Director Xiao, he asked in somewhat imperfect Mandarin, ”Director Xiao, what’s going on? I heard the TV series can’t start shooting on time.”

Upon hearing this, Director Xiao immediately went over to the newcomer.

”Mr. Huang, I’m really sorry, there’s been a slight issue, so there will be a delay in shooting. But don’t worry, we’ll handle it as quickly as possible.”

This person was a Hong Kong businessman and the biggest investor in their crew.

Huang Yanquan frowned at this and looked at Director Xiao, asking, ”What’s the problem exactly?”

Seeing Huang Yanquan’s inquiry, Director Xiao explained the situation, though of course he was biased toward his own side, and the story had a slight slant.

After hearing the explanation, Huang Yanquan turned his gaze towards Ding Yuejun. Seeing her calm and beautiful face, he raised an eyebrow, ”If there’s a problem with your goods, you should take responsibility instead of shirking it here.”

Hearing this, Ding Yuejun couldn’t help but laugh from anger, ”The matter hasn’t been fully investigated, yet you’ve already put the blame on me. Quite impressive. I want to know how your crew operates to let perfectly good costumes end up like this. Moreover, Director Xiao inspected them personally yesterday. Now you’re telling me there’s a problem with the clothes, isn’t that a bit too late?”

By the end, Ding Yuejun’s face was full of sternness, making it impossible to ignore her presence.

Huang Yanquan turned his head towards Director Xiao, frowning, ”You didn’t mention you inspected the costumes yourself yesterday.”

Director Xiao looked embarrassed before finally saying, ”We did inspect some of them yesterday, and they were fine, so we didn’t check the rest thoroughly. We didn’t expect there would be an issue today.”

Ding Yuejun, tired of this back-and-forth, said directly, ”If you really think there’s an issue, then just call the police. Let them properly investigate what really happened. I wouldn’t damage my own reputation. Besides, you can ask Director Shao about the quality of my costumes; he knows well enough. If you’re unsatisfied with my costumes, let’s not collaborate again after this; I’m reluctant to provide for you again just to have perfectly good clothes accused of having problems.”

Hearing this, Director Xiao was internally upset but managed to calm himself down.

Seeing Ding Yuejun’s confidence, he started to wonder if the issue was indeed on their side.

Before Director Xiao could say anything, a middle-aged man entered the room, smiling as he approached, ”Director Xiao, Boss Ding, this must be a misunderstanding. Don’t get upset, especially not talk about calling the police. We can solve this through discussion. Seeing as it’s getting late, let’s have lunch together first.”

The newcomer was another investor in the drama, Liao Youcai, a self-made businessman, known for his smooth ways. At this moment, he smiled broadly and encouraged, ”Boss Ding, I know this issue isn’t your fault, but surely Director Xiao didn’t intentionally ruin the costumes either. Let’s all sit down and discuss it, shall we?”

Hearing this made Ding Yuejun’s expression lighten a bit as she considered the situation.

She knew it wasn’t in Director Xiao’s interest to deliberately damage the costumes, as the filming had to move forward. So she agreed with Liao Youcai’s suggestion.

Soon, the group went to a nearby restaurant.

”Boss Ding, I apologize on behalf of our crew for the inconvenience.”

Liao Youcai downed a glass of wine first, then encouraged everyone to eat more. He happened to be sitting next to Ding Yuejun, eagerly serving her tea and dishes, insisting she eat more.

Faced with Liao Youcai’s enthusiasm, Ding Yuejun frowned slightly, uncomfortable with his attentiveness, and she didn’t like the way he looked at her, ”Boss Liao, there’s no need to be so polite. Since we’re here to discuss matters, let’s set aside dining for now.”

Seeing Ding Yuejun’s cold demeanor, a shadow briefly crossed Liao Youcai’s face, but when he glanced at her beautiful features, he quickly composed himself, filled with determination, ”Since Boss Ding is eager, let’s get to the main topic first.”

”In that case, Director Xiao, please think carefully about who entered the room since the goods arrived yesterday.”

Upon hearing this, Xiao Song knew she was convinced the problem arose on their side. However, with a clear conscience, he calmly said, ”I handed this matter to the costume team, so I’ll call them over to inquire.”

Seeing Xiao Song’s attitude, Ding Yuejun felt slightly more at ease. It seemed Director Xiao didn’t do it on purpose, and there might be more to this than met the eye.

Soon, the head of the drama’s costume team arrived—a tall, thin middle-aged man. Seeing the others’ suspicion, he directly said, ”The costumes have been locked in that room since they arrived, and no one has entered.”

”Boss Ding, so it really isn’t on our end.”

Ding Yuejun ignored Xiao Song and directed her question to the costume team leader, ”How many keys are there to that room?”

”Just one, and I keep it on me at all times.”

Saying this, the man paused briefly, but quickly continued, honestly repeating himself.

However, Ding Yuejun noticed his hesitation and directly asked, ”Did you ever leave the key unattended?”

But Xiao Song interjected, saying, ”Boss Ding, A Wei is an honest man, so he wouldn’t lie.”

Seeing Xiao Song’s outright bias in favor of his staff, Ding Yuejun’s expression grew colder. Then, suddenly, Huang Yanquan looked at the costume team leader and asked, ”Did you ever leave that set of keys unattended?”

Faced with Huang Yanquan’s stern inquiry, the tall, thin man felt a little guilty. He knew the person before him was the crew’s biggest investor, and if he offended him, he might pull his investment, making the costume man the villain of the whole crew.

Thinking of this, the costume man, slightly stuttering, finally admitted, ”Well... it was unattended for a little while. Last night after dinner, I left the keys at the dining place, but I went back immediately and found them quickly, so... it shouldn’t matter, right? After all, it was just about half an hour.”
