Super Rich by Doing as You Please

Xu Yun followed his gaze and saw that it was indeed the two of them.

Xu Yun was quite a fan of the actor, Zhang Jin. His movie fight scenes were always brutal, with every punch landing squarely. It was how he had earned the nickname ”the thug in a suit.”

Lin Wanzhou knew of the kung fu star as well.

But his interest was different from Xu Yun’s. He purely wanted to go over and test the man’s skills, to see what his real fighting ability was like.

Seeing the look on his face, Xu Yun asked with a smile, ”What are you thinking? Want to go ask for an autograph?”

”No, I want to go over and beat him up.”

”Do you two have a grudge against each other???”

Xu Yun was taken aback for a moment. ”Old Lin, this is a society ruled by law! And we’re in Xiangjiang. Don’t do anything reckless.”

”No, it’s just that seeing him here makes my hands itch. I want to have a match with him.”

Lin Wanzhou said, ”I want to see if he’s got real skills or if it’s all just an act—all for show and no substance.”

”Should I go and try asking for you?”

”I’m just talking. We don’t know each other, why would he agree?”

”Yeah, he probably wouldn’t agree,” Yu Jiaming added, also thinking it was unlikely.

”Come on, let’s go ask together. There’s no harm in it. What if he says yes?”

With that, Xu Yun walked straight over, sat down in front of them, and called out with a smile, ”Mr. Zhang, Ms. Cai, hello. It’s been a while.”

Zhang Jin and Cai Shaofen looked at this stranger, a bit confused. ”Hello, do we know you?”

”No, this is our first time meeting.”

Xu Yun replied, ”But Mr. Zhang, we’re from the same hometown. I’m also from Yu City, and I really love your movies.”

In Yu City, where he was from, addressing a stranger as ’teacher’ was a common sign of respect.

He had opened with that title precisely to subtly dispel their suspicion.

”Thank you.”

The moment Zhang Jin heard the man was from his hometown, kept addressing him respectfully, and even had the right accent, he believed him.

He asked with a smile, ”Are you looking for an autograph? Or a photo together?”

”Neither.”

Xu Yun said, ”I have a friend who’s a huge fan of yours. He’s also a big fan of martial arts and trains on his own. Since we happened to run into you today, he was hoping you could give him some pointers.”

Polite version: ”Give him some pointers.”

Blunt version: ”He wants to fight you.”

”...”

Zhang Jin hadn’t expected the man to be arranging a fight on his friend’s behalf.

He glanced over at Lin Wanzhou, paused for a second, then turned back and directly refused. ”Sorry, brother, it’s not a good time today. I have to be with my wife.”

”Mr. Zhang, I know you’re very busy.”

Xu Yun said, ”We’ll be staying at the Rosewood Hotel in Xiangjiang for the next few days. See when you might have some time; we’re available whenever.”

”Well...”

When Zhang Jin and Cai Shaofen heard he was staying at the Rosewood Hotel, they realized he probably wasn’t just an ordinary person.

”Of course, I don’t expect you to do it for free.”

Xu Yun interjected, ”As long as you agree to a sparring match with my friend, Mr. Zhang, I’m willing to pay an instruction fee. You can name your price.”

Zhang Jin looked troubled. ”It’s not about the money.”

”I understand. It’s mainly that my friend is a huge fan of you and of martial arts, and he really wants to spar with you.”

Xu Yun knew what he might be worried about and offered a guarantee. ”Mr. Zhang, you can rest assured. There will be absolutely no outsiders present for this match, nothing will get out, and there will definitely be no recording of any kind. You can also choose the location.

In short, this is just a private, friendly spar between friends. No matter the outcome, it won’t affect you in any way.”

Faced with Xu Yun’s request and assurances, Zhang Jin, a martial artist at heart, felt a stir of interest. He was tempted to spar with Lin Wanzhou.

Besides, he didn’t usually get opportunities for a real match.

”Handsome, let my husband think it over.”

Cai Shaofen, noticing her husband’s hesitation, spoke up with a smile in her less-than-perfect Mandarin, ”Why don’t you leave your contact information? We’ll get in touch if we agree.”

”Okay.”

Xu Yun wrote his number on a napkin, handed it to them, and stood up. ”Alright, Mr. Zhang, Ms. Cai, I won’t disturb your meal any longer. Goodbye.”

As for whether it would happen, Xu Yun could only leave it to fate.

’In any case, I’ve said all I can. I’ve done my best.’

After Xu Yun left, Cai Shaofen looked at the number on the table and asked Zhang Jin, ”Honey, what are you thinking? Are you going to agree or not?”

”What do you think, dear?”

”I think he was quite sincere, and the arrangements he suggested would prevent a lot of the things we’re worried about. It doesn’t seem like he’s trying to cause trouble.”

Cai Shaofen continued, ”Also, I noticed he was wearing a limited-edition Patek Philippe watch on his wrist, worth several million.

”A person like that is either rich or powerful. And he’s from your hometown. I think you could use this as an opportunity to befriend him.

Besides, he’s willing to pay you an instruction fee. You can just treat it like a job.”

”You’re not wrong.”

Zhang Jin said worriedly, ”But there’s still a certain amount of risk.”

As a public figure, he had to be careful about everything. There was no room for carelessness, or someone might use it to stir up drama.

”Honey.”

Cai Shaofen teased, ”Are you just afraid you can’t beat his friend? Afraid you’ll lose and it’ll be embarrassing?”

Zhang Jin: ”...”

”It’s okay. Even if you lose, I won’t laugh at you.”

”Oh, thank you so much.”

Zhang Jin shot her a look, speechless. ”What kind of wife hopes her husband will lose before he’s even fought?”

”So, are you going to agree or not?”

”Let me think about it some more.”

With that, Zhang Jin pocketed the napkin with the phone number on it.

「Back with the others.」

Lin Wanzhou watched Xu Yun walk back and asked, ”How did it go? Did he agree?”

”Not yet. He only agreed to think about it. But I don’t think the chances are good, so you should probably stop thinking about challenging him.”

Xu Yun said with a smile, ”He’s just an actor, how much real skill can he have? You’ve been in real fights, you’ve even killed people. Don’t slip up and end up breaking his bones.”

”!!!” Yu Jiaming was completely floored by Xu Yun’s words, so scared he gulped.

’What the hell? This guy has actually killed someone!’

He snuck a glance at Lin Wanzhou and subconsciously edged closer to Xu Yun, as if that was the only way he could feel safe!
