This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

An Chunhui said politely, ”No need to see me out. You go back and accompany your grandfather; we can let ourselves out.”

Unexpectedly, Wu Shengnan smiled slightly and said to An Chunhui, ”Uncle An, I have some private matters to discuss with Doctor Du. Can we talk alone?”

An Chunhui immediately looked at Du Heng with a strange expression, but quickly said, ”Alright, you young people chat. I’ll head back first.”

Du Heng wanted to stop An Chunhui, but An Chunhui left too quickly, not giving him a chance. Du Heng could only watch helplessly as his figure disappeared.

Du Heng had no choice but to take the initiative and apologize. ”Miss Wu, I was reckless the night before last, and I apologize. If it affected your work, I can only say I’m sorry, and I’m willing to cover any losses.”

Wu Shengnan looked at Du Heng strangely. ”Work? Why would I be working there? If you all can go there to relax, can’t I relax too?”

Du Heng breathed a sigh of relief, only to become tense again at Wu Shengnan’s words.

”Before the night before last, we’d only met once. We aren’t that familiar, are we? Why did you pull me into your private room to drink? Was it deliberate?”

Du Heng’s ears turned red. ”I’m sorry. I’m a lightweight; I got drunk the night before last. I didn’t even know what happened. I only found out yesterday when I saw the video my friend took.”

Du Heng apologized sincerely, ”I’m really sorry. It truly wasn’t intentional.”

Wu Shengnan was skeptical. ”You say you’re a lightweight? I don’t believe it. You pulled me in and were chugging that imported liquor like there was no tomorrow. Your friends couldn’t even stop you. That didn’t look like someone who can’t hold their alcohol.”

Du Heng grew anxious. If this was misunderstood, he’d be seen as some kind of pervert. ”Really, I swear! My friends can all vouch for me.”

”I don’t believe it. I still think you did it on purpose.” Wu Shengnan looked Du Heng up and down, then said indifferently.

Wu Shengnan’s relentless attitude instantly annoyed Du Heng.

I fucking thought *you* were the one doing it on purpose!

A cop, a young woman, and for crying out loud, I just tugged you along and you came drinking with me. *You’re* the one who seemed to be doing it on purpose!

Du Heng didn’t bother to explain anymore. Let her think whatever she wanted.

At first, I was worried I might have interfered with a police investigation, so I panicked. But now that I know it’s fine, what’s the big deal?!

Besides, we have no relationship, and I’m not trying to date her. Why rush to explain?

Most importantly, I just pulled her over for a drink. I didn’t do anything out of line. What can she do to me?

He stopped talking and just looked at Wu Shengnan.

Wu Shengnan was taken aback by Du Heng’s sudden composure.

Before Du Heng, any man she’d questioned and pressed like this would have scrambled to explain, making all sorts of vows and swearing up and down. She hadn’t expected Du Heng to give up so easily.

This, in turn, piqued her interest in Du Heng even more.

”How about this: you’ve cured my grandfather, so I’ll treat you to a meal. It’ll also be a chance to see if your alcohol tolerance is really as low as you claim.”

”No need. Treating patients and saving lives is my duty. Besides, your grandfather has already promised to help me, so we’re even. There’s no need to treat me to dinner.” Having sorted that out in his mind, Du Heng felt a wave of relief. It’s not like I committed some unpardonable sin; why be so cautious around her?

”Miss Wu, if there’s nothing else, I’ll be going. I have the night shift tonight. Someone is covering for me at the moment, and it wouldn’t be good to be late.”

Wu Shengnan was stunned again. She had taken the initiative to invite him to dinner, and he actually refused!

Seeing Wu Shengnan remain silent, Du Heng turned to leave. There was no point in staying.

Seeing Du Heng turn to leave, Wu Shengnan quickly called out to him. She had actual business with him, something she had planned all along. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have had drinks with him the night before last; instead, she would have given him two hard slaps right then and there.

He meets me once and dares to drag *me*, of all people, to drink with a group of men? Has he eaten a bear’s heart and a leopard’s gallbladder, the nerve of him!

I’ll slap you silly!

Du Heng stopped. ”Is there anything else?”

Seeing Du Heng’s impatient expression, Wu Shengnan felt a sudden urge to deliver those two slaps.

I was gracious enough to accompany you for drinks, and now I’m taking the initiative to invite you to dinner, yet you’re this reluctant to even acknowledge me?

However, remembering why she was here, she suppressed her anger. ”Doctor Du, I have a favor to ask.”

”Go on.”

Du Heng’s cold demeanor made Wu Shengnan feel stifled, as if she were the one at fault.

But then, thinking about what she needed to discuss, she silently coached herself: *Stay calm, stay calm.*

After taking a deep breath, she said, ”Doctor Du, I’d like to ask you to come to our squad and help examine my colleagues.”

Du Heng asked, somewhat puzzled, ”What squad are you on?”

”Criminal Police Team.”

”You’re a criminal police officer?” Du Heng was startled and looked at Wu Shengnan in surprise.

Seeing Du Heng’s astonished expression, Wu Shengnan’s heart swelled with pride.

She puffed her chest out slightly, tilted her chin up a fraction, and said proudly, ”That’s right.”

Du Heng’s surprise was fleeting; he quickly regained his composure.

He just hadn’t expected such a beautiful girl, especially one with her background, to be in the Criminal Police Team—such a tough and exhausting department. He’d assumed she’d be in a technical unit or doing internal work.

But then again, it’s hardly surprising for someone with her connections to pick and choose their post.

And so what if she’s a criminal police officer? Could she arrest him or something?

Du Heng asked calmly, ”A house call? Can’t they go to the hospital themselves?”

Du Heng was starting to get irritated. Did she really take him for her family’s tenant farmer?
