This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Du Heng frowned. Could she really perform those surgeries she mentioned? However, having a medical accident and being transferred to the District Maternal and Child Health Clinic without her practice qualification being revoked seemed to suggest she had some connections.

But Du Heng didn’t ask about that; he was more curious about another matter. ”Why did you transfer to the Health Clinic now?”

”I want to qualify for a mid-level professional title, and your Zhonghu Health Center is remote enough.”

Du Heng hesitated for a moment, wondering if he dared to accept someone like her.

The Health Clinic was not the Provincial Women and Children’s Hospital; it didn’t have the capability to smooth over such incidents.

Huo Yinhua, as someone with a prior record, had made such a reckless suggestion today. If she were to cause a major problem for him in the future, it was entirely unpredictable.

If it really happened, he, with his modest capabilities, probably wouldn’t be able to withstand it.

”Director An, can we find someone else?”

An Chunhui on the other end was silent for a moment. ”No.”

”Thank you, Director An. I understand.”

”Keep an eye on her; Dr. Huo’s skills are still alright.”

Du Heng was a bit frustrated. He didn’t know about her skills, but he felt her personality was problematic.

”Thank you, leader. Sorry for the trouble.”

”Don’t be in a hurry to thank me. Go check on the old gentleman again today. Didn’t you say about half a month would be enough?”

When An Chunhui mentioned the old gentleman, Du Heng remembered Zhao Qiang’s special subsidy. Although he had come to terms with it, he still felt a bit uneasy.

”Okay, I’ll wait at the community entrance after work.”

”You go by yourself; I won’t go.”

”Director An, please come. I don’t know him well, and I’ll be nervous without you there.”

An Chunhui laughed over the phone. ”You, nervous, kid?”

”Director An, I’m not joking. I get nervous even in front of you, let alone that old gentleman. His aura is so overwhelmingly strong, I’d be even worse off.”

”Alright, then I’ll go to the trouble of making another trip to back you up, kid.”

”Thank you for your understanding, leader. See you tonight.”

”See you tonight.”

After hanging up the phone, Du Heng let out a long sigh.

He didn’t want to go alone, and he certainly couldn’t go without An Chunhui.

Seeing that it was still early, Du Heng didn’t rush out but turned back into Lu Zhongjiang’s office.

He told Lu Zhongjiang about Huo Yinhua and asked softly, ”Secretary Lu, can you find a way to get her transferred?”

Lu Zhongjiang also frowned. Hearing Du Heng’s question, he slowly shook his head. ”Probably not.”

”Then what should we do now?”

”In theory, Dr. Huo should be skilled since she worked at the Provincial Women and Children’s Hospital. Plus, given the conditions of our operating room, there isn’t much she could do anyway.”

Du Heng, however, disagreed with Lu Zhongjiang.

An Chunhui had just said that Huo Yinhua caused a medical accident through operational irregularities. Back then, she was at the Provincial Women and Children’s Hospital, and only a resident doctor, yet she dared to violate regulations. Now, in a tiny place like the Health Clinic, her audacity would likely be even greater.

”I’m still worried. If something happens, what will we do? The glimmer of hope we just saw could be snuffed out completely. She has connections; when the time comes, she could just walk away scot-free after getting transferred. But what about us? What about the others in the clinic? We can’t all just keep relying on that meager basic salary to live, can we?”

”I understand what you’re saying. But as you just said, she chose our Health Clinic precisely because it’s remote and no one knows her history. Trying to get her transferred out now won’t be easy, I’m afraid.”

Lu Zhongjiang sighed and comforted Du Heng, ”Keep a close eye on her, supervise her more, and don’t give her any chance to act recklessly. I imagine she won’t stay here with us for long anyway.”

”It seems that’s the only option.” Du Heng felt a bit helpless and let out a soft sigh.

Composing himself, Du Heng brought up another matter. ”Wang Zhenzhen said she wants an assistant. Do you think it’s necessary, Secretary?”

Lu Zhongjiang also pushed aside his thoughts about Huo Yinhua and considered Du Heng’s question for a moment. ”Let’s assign one. It’s going to happen sooner or later anyway. If we want to upgrade, the finance side must be properly formalized. Besides, with more patients now, medical insurance reimbursement is also quite complicated. An extra person would make things more efficient.”

”Since you agree, Secretary, then I’ll trouble you to find someone.”

”Alright, leave it to me.”

Du Heng stood up. ”Then I’ll get going. There’s still that matter with Director An.”

...

Arriving at the entrance of this dilapidated residential complex for the third time, Du Heng was already calm and unfazed.

However, watching the crowd milling about the entrance, a thought suddenly struck Du Heng: Maybe I can ask the old man to help with Huo Yinhua’s situation.

Just as he was mentally weighing the feasibility of this idea, An Chunhui finally arrived.

Without much unnecessary talk, they met up and headed straight to their destination.

As they were approaching the building, Du Heng suddenly asked An Chunhui, ”Director An, if I were to ask this old gentleman to help resolve the Huo Yinhua situation, do you think it would be feasible?”

An Chunhui paused mid-step and said softly, ”Huo Yinhua’s connections are at the city level; I don’t have much sway there. But if you ask the old gentleman, it would be a piece of cake for him.” He then turned to look at Du Heng. ”For Huo Yinhua, you’re willing to waste such an opportunity? Have you thought this through carefully?”

Du Heng considered it. To be honest, in my current situation, there doesn’t seem to be anything I’d need the old gentleman’s help for. Small matters don’t warrant it, and for big matters, our relationship isn’t at that level yet. Besides, what are favors for, if not to be used? If I just wait for him to decide how to repay the favor, who knows what form it might take. Since this matter is a piece of cake for the old gentleman, then it’s perfect.

”It would be best if the old gentleman can help. Director An, I didn’t mention this on the phone this afternoon, but Huo Yinhua approached me about upgrading the operating room. She’s actually planning to perform all sorts of gynecological surgeries, including level 3 surgeries like cesarean sections! I’m genuinely panicking.”

”As long as you’ve thought it through, I have no objections.”

After that, the two stopped talking and walked into the apartment building one after the other.

The young housekeeper opened the door, revealing the familiar layout. Du Heng calmly followed An Chunhui inside.

Just as he was about to greet the old gentleman on the sofa, he suddenly saw a face etched in his memory right next to the old gentleman. Du Heng almost turned and fled.

Damn it! he cursed inwardly.

No wonder when he watched the video yesterday, the girl he’d been drinking with looked so familiar. It turned out to be the old gentleman’s granddaughter, whom he had met once, half a month ago!

And at this moment, this girl was actually smiling at Du Heng!

Smile my ass!!!

Du Heng was so frustrated he felt like he was suffocating, struggling to breathe.

”Hello, Director An.”

The girl took two steps forward, greeted An Chunhui, and then said to Du Heng, ”Hello, Dr. Du. We meet again.”

What’s wrong with you?! Two weeks ago, you were so cold and standoffish, barely acknowledging anyone. The night before last, when I dragged you out for drinks, how could you agree? You should have just slapped me twice and maintained your haughty demeanor! And today, why the hell are you even saying hello? Wouldn’t it be better to just keep being your usual icy self?

Du Heng ranted silently in his heart.

But he still managed to squeeze out a smile. ”Hello.” However, he was so awkward that he felt he could have dug a hole through the floorboards with his toes.

The old gentleman had recovered remarkably well. He walked a couple of steps with his cane, his gait steady, his feet landing firmly. When he stood still, his legs showed no sign of trembling or bending.

”Xiao An, Dr. Du, this is my granddaughter, Wu Shengnan. She heard that you were coming today, so she volunteered to come and entertain our guests.”

Wu Shengnan was very poised and gracious, a completely different person from the proud girl he’d first met. ”My mom had something come up and couldn’t make it today. My dad and my brother both have work, so they couldn’t come either. That means it’s up to me to entertain you all. Please forgive any shortcomings. Please, sit down!”

Du Heng really didn’t dare to look at Wu Shengnan. He felt that her eyes, whenever they looked at him, were filled with mockery. So, he quickly lowered his head and followed An Chunhui to sit on the sofa.

The old gentleman wanted to chat with Du Heng, but Du Heng was unresponsive, only thinking about finishing today’s consultation quickly and leaving.

This whole situation today... it’s f*cking social death! How could I have done something so ridiculous? And to meet the person involved just a day later... this is just unbelievable!
