This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

After hearing what Lu Zhongjiang said, Du Heng’s outstretched hand, ready for a greeting, and the smile on his face froze.

What is all this?

This is not what An Chunhui promised last time.

It’s acceptable to give me a doctor specialized in obstetrics and gynecology, but what am I supposed to do with a preventive medicine specialist?

Do I need it now?

Does the Health Clinic need it?

Do my patients here need it?

Absurd!

Most importantly, where’s the Emergency Doctor that was promised? Where’s the experienced emergency doctor?

Are you kidding me?

I’m all ready here, and you’re telling me you’ve changed your mind and aren’t coming? Isn’t this just ridiculous?

Seeing Du Heng’s stiff hand and smile, Lu Zhongjiang also understood why.

When he received these two people in the afternoon, he was also completely confused; he didn’t know what was going on either.

But since they picked up the two, they had driven directly to the Health Clinic, without finding a suitable opportunity to discuss the matter.

Now, seeing Du Heng’s stunned look, Lu Zhongjiang quickly cleared his throat a couple of times to remind Du Heng not to lose his composure.

Hearing Lu Zhongjiang’s throat-clearing, Du Heng immediately came to his senses. ”Welcome, new colleagues.”

Lu Zhongjiang hurriedly introduced them again, ”This is our Dean, Du Heng, President Du.”

The two newcomers also had a curious look on their faces. ”Hello, Dean.”

They knew the Dean was a young man, but when they actually saw Du Heng’s face, they still found it very unusual.

After all, it was rare to see such a young and decent-looking Dean.

”This is our Chinese Medicine Department doctor, Wu Buwei.” Du Heng turned to introduce Wu Buwei beside him and then said to Wu Buwei, ”Buwei, take our new colleagues to my office first. Secretary Lu and I will notify everyone for a meeting, which will also serve to welcome our new colleagues.”

”All right, Senior Brother.”

Once Wu Buwei had led the people away, Du Heng quickly pulled Lu Zhongjiang aside and asked, ”Secretary Lu, what’s going on? Why is it different from what Director An said?”

Lu Zhongjiang also had a baffled look on his face. ”I don’t know either. I was in meetings all morning, and Director An didn’t mention this, nor did anyone from the Human Resources Department. I was just as confused when they called me to the Human Resources Department to pick up the people this afternoon.”

Du Heng gritted his teeth and said with some frustration, ”That Doctor Huo specializes in obstetrics and gynecology, which is somewhat useful. But that Doctor Qian, preventive medicine, what’s the use of that?”

Lu Zhongjiang was also very frustrated. Just as he was about to speak, several people entered through the doorway.

One was Yu Haiting with a woman, and another was Wei Kaida with his sister. The two groups arrived at the same time, as if by prior agreement.

Yu Haiting walked in front. Seeing that Du Heng and Lu Zhongjiang were both there, he quickened his pace. ”Dean, Secretary, this is Wu Yu.”

The girl named Wu Yu quickly followed with greetings, ”Hello Dean, hello Secretary.”

Lu Zhongjiang knew what was happening the moment he saw this, and Du Heng understood it even more clearly.

Wei Kaida also came over. Seeing the situation, he hesitated and asked, ”Old Du, what is this?”

Du Heng waved his hand. ”It’s fine, this doesn’t concern you anymore. You can go.” Then he said to Wei Kaida’s sister, ”Elder Sister, it’s good that you’re here. You can join us.”

Since they were all familiar with each other, Du Heng didn’t bother with pleasantries and got straight to the point. ”Everyone should be clear why I’ve called you two here today, so I won’t say much more. I’ll find the head nurse for you first. You two can chat with her, and then we’ll all go to the conference room for a meeting.”

After speaking, he immediately called Li Nating to come down.

”You talk with these two. If you think there are no issues on your end, then take them to the conference room. By the way, notify all your nurses that there will be a general meeting in the conference room in half an hour.”

”I got it.” Li Nating nodded, indicating she understood. She also knew what Du Heng wanted her to discuss with the two women.

However, seeing her exchanging glances with Wei Kaida, Du Heng quickly whispered, ”Handle this officially. Their skills must be up to par. If there are any problems, I will definitely hold you responsible.”

”I know, don’t worry.”

Then Li Nating led her future sister-in-law and Yu Haiting’s sister-in-law towards the nurse station on the second floor.

Du Heng said to the two men, ”All right, the rest has nothing to do with you. Doctor Yu, do me a favor and notify everyone that there will be a meeting in the conference room in half an hour. Attendance is mandatory for all.”

Yu Haiting nodded in agreement and left.

Wei Kaida interjected, ”What about me?”

Du Heng was about to speak when he suddenly remembered something. He took out the bank card from his trouser pocket and slapped it into Wei Kaida’s hand. ”You just wander around outside for a bit. After our meeting, you and Elder Sister can go back together, or you can wait for Li Nating to get off work and go back with her.”

”You won’t let me sit in your office for a while? It’s so hot today, where do you expect me to wander?”

”Go wherever you please. I have people in my office, so it’s inconvenient to host you.”

With that, he ignored Wei Kaida and pulled Lu Zhongjiang into the nearby consultation room, leaving Wei Kaida alone, looking bewildered at the familiar bank card in his hand.

Once inside the consultation room, Du Heng returned to the earlier topic. ”Secretary Lu, why don’t we talk to Director An and ask for a replacement? We really don’t have a use for this preventive medicine specialist right now.”

Lu Zhongjiang stopped Du Heng’s unrealistic idea. While pondering the Bureau’s intentions behind this arrangement, he said slowly, ”I think this might be a deliberately planned move.”

Du Heng was puzzled. ”How so?”

”You see, for us to upgrade, we must have several key services: general outpatient, obstetrics and gynecology outpatient, emergency outpatient, the Inspection Department, and a disease prevention and healthcare outpatient service. Now, they’ve suddenly changed the agreed-upon Emergency Doctor to a preventive medicine doctor. I think this is the Bureau’s way of making advance arrangements for our upgrade.”

That’s a good point, but the problem remains: we currently have no use for this department. Once it’s time to upgrade, establishing this department then would be sufficient; there’s no need to bring someone in for it now.

Seeing Du Heng frown, still somewhat unwilling to accept, Lu Zhongjiang continued, ”This department isn’t completely useless. At the very least, once it’s established and Doctor Qian is officially on duty, we can assign all non-treatment work to it. This includes tasks like school safety and health promotion, rural drinking water safety and health promotion, and even vaccinations. Doing so would completely free up our clinical doctors to focus on treating and saving patients.”

Lu Zhongjiang disagreed with approaching An Chunhui again, and his words also made Du Heng hesitate.

Just as Lu Zhongjiang had said, the non-treatment work that the Health Clinic participated in each month consumed about half of the doctors’ working hours.

Furthermore, the Health Clinic had staffing ratio requirements: medical staff had to account for more than sixty percent, even up to eighty percent, of the total personnel.

This made it impossible for Du Heng to hire many non-medical personnel to help out.

And if he hired too many professional medical staff, the Health Clinic couldn’t afford the salaries and benefits.

If it could really be as Lu Zhongjiang described, it wouldn’t be a bad solution.

It’s just that this might not be very fair to Doctor Qian.

However, the tasks just mentioned aren’t tiring, just very trivial. They often require contact with external units, which is quite troublesome and time-consuming.

After hesitating for a moment, Du Heng accepted the current situation and gave up the idea of finding An Chunhui.

”All right then. Let’s prepare for the meeting and welcome our new colleagues.”

Having said that, he was about to go to his office to chat with the two new colleagues, but Lu Zhongjiang reached out and stopped him. ”Dean, who were those two just now?”

”Oh, I was muddled and forgot to tell you. It’s like this: these days, people have been approaching me, wanting to send individuals here. But to be honest, aside from Director Gao’s spouse, the other candidates are truly indescribable. Moreover, last night President Wang from next door called. Though he didn’t state it explicitly, his meaning was clear.”

”If the person is decent and their skills are adequate, you should just agree. What’s the big deal?”

”That’s precisely the problem. I don’t know about their skill level, but from what I’ve gathered indirectly, the individuals themselves really aren’t suitable. So, to avoid offending people, I decided to cut the Gordian knot: let our own people recommend candidates, or find people we know. With only two positions, it’s easy to fill them.”

”So, who are these two?”

”One is Yu Haiting’s sister-in-law, who currently works at Nanhu District Hospital. The other is my classmate’s elder sister, who is also Li Nating’s future sister-in-law. She was previously a nurse at a Class A hospital and has been helping in her family’s clinic since getting married and having a child.”

”Are they really willing to come?”

Du Heng smiled. ”Of course, they’re interested in that authorized job.”

Lu Zhongjiang also smiled. ”That won’t be easy. What if the Bureau directly assigns people later...”

”In that case, it will be every man for himself; whoever has the ability will get the spot.”

”That’s true. Everyone wants an authorized job, so in the end, it all comes down to who has the skills.”
